but these all are just pictures of panel. Not from prints it self. Have you tested that does it have any real world difference for print? Sometimes theory wont meet real world and I am not so sure that is it 100% good thing to remove all diffusion from light. After all that diffusion may be there for reason. At least I am interested what it does for dusability of print when light is more coherent
I can appreciate the effort on the video, but can we get some more information on where you plan to find a super-thin, tempered glass screen protector that is cut to the correct size/shape for the GK3U?
@@PhillFisk I'm working on a follow up right now. But I'm looking at the tempered glass screen protectors from Frozen and choo choo systems. There's also one that comes on the M7 Max that I think works quite well given. I am quite happy with the print quality from that printer. Right now I just cut a sliver out of the screen protector that I removed and I put it on my Revo and I'm doing a print right now where I have two parts on and two parts off of the bit of extra screen protector as well as I'm showing the UV light blocking that's occurring as well.

Any comment on “index of refraction” specification for the screen protector (plastic or glass) being of any concern for distortion of the UV layer images (or perhaps the shifting of the image would be inconsequential since all pixels of each image would be equally shifted, thus resulting in a same image, just slightly shifted x or y, rather than slight “blooming” of every pixel ???). I ask because in the TI DMD (digital mirror device) chips used in DLP projectors for 3D printers, the UV versions of these DMD chips have glass covers that have an “index of refraction” specified for UV wavelengths. However, perhaps the potential distortion of the projected image is greater for DMD, where a small image is being sent through many lens and then winds up with much, much larger final focal-plane image.
You will get a tiny bit of that with a glass protector but it's less than the XY of the UM of the capabilities of the resin or the LCD. The major issue here is the distortion of the material. Like light through privacy glass it blurs and distorts the image almost upto 2px wide. If you look at the comments you can see some pictures I took. THe Black and white shows it best where you have that "ring" around the pixels. This ring is where you get a softer cure without any crips details. There are quite a few 3D printers with a Glass screen protector on them that are able to print very sharp details. The limiting factor here is the resin, not the LCD. It seems that it would be a nice, little cottage business if we could find someone in the resin 3D community willing to “custom-make” and sell “tempered glass screen protectors” for all the reasonably-popular resin 3D printers on the market, so we don’t have to endlessly search for the proper size versions or risk cutting the glass ourselves.
Keeping that for the full review and after we figure out the layer lines issue. But this is an older issue first noticed on the M5 and M5S with their inclined plastic screen protectors. But be assured a blooming of almost 2px does greatly hurt accuracy on the print as it's essentially cutting the resolution in half making this perform closer to 8K printer but with a lot more artifact lines.
@@J3DTech You are forgetting to take into account that by taking a photo like this, the Screen Protector is not "flush" with the LCD, like it would be with the VAT, resin and build plate weighing it down. On the GK3U, the Screen Protector "hovers" with a tiny air gap between it and the screen, until you mount the VAT. By pressing the Protector down with each layer, the blurriness will be minimized, so a print-test would be great.
I'm thinking of cutting out the clear plastic film but keeping the black adhesive framing portion of my extras and then doing a test to compare results. Glass is so easy to cut to exact shape, btw.
@@Haxzyr The M7 Pro has a glass one. I need to see if I can find out where Anycubic got it and then I'm good. I don't trust myself to cut the glass without shattering it.
@J3DTech The exact shape can be done by a reputable hardware store, picture framing store, or glass supply store that sells panes. The scoring jig is required to keep a straight scoring line for a clean break.
thanks, one of the isues with my gk3 ultra was also it was calibrated way to low. Another thing im seing with the uv meter is the uv light is pretty uneven across the screen. Do you have any input on that?
Is the main intention of using a screen protector on a 3d printer to protect from scratches, like ones used on a phone screen? Or to protect from spillages?

I have a 6ks and M7, so aside from the thicker screen protector sheet they include with the "leveling paper" theres already a screen protector on the lcd thats part with the seal around the edge of screen?
@J3DTech ooooo ok, that makes sense and explains the raise in the tape around the edge of the screen. I thought that was just the edge of the screen protruding up slightly and not an already installed protector. So with the one included that goes over top then, technically there's now 2 screen protectors on it?
@J3DTech i mean, real prints. i didnt notice any difference at 0.05 on saturn4u+ chitu screen protector. i know, somehow it should affect the quality, but i dont want to take risks if nfep suddenly pops
Did you try some other printer and screen protector? GK3 Ultra is pretty bad printer with multiple flaws and one of them is also a bad screen protector that blocks light. Uniformation already confirmed it that screen protector on Ultra is faulty. I dont see any quality drop with M7 Pro.
@@88RunnerBlade Yes one seen quality issues with the plastic ones that ship with the M5s as well as the popular ones that are designed to go over the entire top of the top of the printer. This one was just a bit worse than the others. As the inventor of boxes of calibration, I'm in a rather unique spot. This is where I have a massive amount of people sending me pictures of their calibration prints and me giving advice on how to improve them. Over the last few years I've seen a direct correlation to UV exposure, time quality and how many pillars someone can print directly related to screen protectors. At this point me asking what screen protector are you using? Is one of the first questions I ask.
I see a few fellow GK3U people in here. I'm on the hunt for a tempered screen replacement. If I find one I'll post here, if anyone else does I'd be thankful for a link. Although my anxiety goes up a little as I realize that I'm most likely re-entering the land of trying to figure the Z axis testing and I never did wrap my head around the fact that adding a few sheets of paper just reduced the pressure on the plate, it didn't stop the contact with the plate, so did that raise Z axis or just reduce pressure, why is that the solution...what if dog is really spelled C-A-T... what have I done...anything...oh darn there I go again... Sorry. :)

the BW comparrision was interesting. It really highlights the edge distortion.
