The global goals we've made progress on -- and the ones we haven't | Michael Green

- "We are living in a world that is tantalizingly close to ensuring that no one need die of hunger or malaria or diarrhea," says economist Michael Green. To help spur progress, back in 2015 the United Nations drew up a set of 17 goals around important factors like health, education and equality. In this data-packed talk, Green shares his analysis on the steps each country has (or hasn't) made toward these Sustainable Development Goals -- and offers new ideas on what needs to change so we can achieve them.

Thank you. I really like your charisma/style of communication and your presentation was of great quality (content, critical thought, in short time).
Thank you for giving this TED Talk, Mr. Green. It is very heart-warming to know that you're out there fighting for the betterment of humankind.
my dad bought the TED Talks book for me and my teenage sister (she recommended it) I’m 10 years old and I love your channel because it’s very informative and inspiring SO THANK YOU FOR MAKING YOUR CHANNEL
TED talks are very useful. They gave me insight to many different topics I would have otherwise never learned about. They are also great to listen to while working!
I think we are all responsible for those goals, independently of what country we are from.
I agree - well said. :)
That’s the whole point just like the slogan says
Ohemaa D’Emscil no..’’ i want. None of this my country is good go away UN look at your own country
yeah, sometimes I feel the same way too
@@hirsizvar9835 it's all NWO propaganda. It looks beautiful on the outside but not what will truly be happening once they create a universal government.
Is there a document on the Internet where I can see the progress and forcasts of all SDGs? I am also studying in Development and I really want to see all of them.

Time to move to Denmark
We only really got this far by NOT leaving Denmark ourselves, but sure, come on over. I'll put the kettle on.
NO. WE DONT WANT YOU. PLEASE DONT COME
Time to stay where we are and vote for the parties who will do things the Danish way.

Is there anyone knows where the analysis came from? I mean is there any underlying paper or publication about the forecast?
Yes, United Nations Agenda 21.

How on earth do they have accurate data on all these countries?

Great talk. However, why is it that when I check countries' SDG score, Denmark shows 85.33in 2015? :o
amei, saí com depressão
Hey there has anyone ever found a paper of Mr. Green that states these findings?
Why haven’t any of these goals been achieved? The answer is in this comments section. So many people just don’t care about anyone else.
As long as there is constantly any noticeable progress, I am happy.
I don't even think the globe has agreed on the goals.
Or how to objectively define and measure them probably
@@TheMrfrodough We all have to take responsibility to ensure that we make the most of these excellent Goals and hopefully really dedicate ourselves to exceeding their possibilities. Goal 3 could enable interested national populations to work on #InternationaConsortiumSinglePayer, that would provide a FAIR TRADE compact between participating countries on pharma and med tech and services. This could mean that the lowest prices in any country would be the standard in all countries. This could mean that many drug prices in North American would be < 1% of current prices, making Medicare more comprehensive and affordable. It is also necessary that private companies be required to be suppliers of goods and services within the framework of social and economic democracy.
@@alanblanes2876 regardless of how good and noble a goal is unless terms are severely defined and agreed upon it doesn't matter.
@@TheMrfrodough Agreed, that is why we all have to ensure that there is serious, formal discussion of the whole program, and to ensure that helpful ways of defining the SDGs are what the public allows, not detrimental ways of defining terms.
@@alanblanes2876 good luck with that, atleast with the US government. The idiot population votes in anti science and reality politicians
Where I can access this terrific powerpoint/paper... I like it. Hope anyone can help.
Lack of progress for water and sanitation is tragic. It was and remains a horrible situation : millions of children and other people dying from water-borne diseases, that are easy to avoid and cure! Not reaching the goal for this is beyond unacceptable and mind-boggling.
Mind-boggling until you accept the fact that they DO NOT actually care about anyone but themselves. They pretend to work towards benevolent goals when in fact this is a plan for the NWO, world communism, world domination.
@@tinkertailorgardenermagpie Having clean water, so people don't die is your definition of communism?
@@trekkaz7955 of course not; the fact that they state it as their goal but take no action for improvement should make anyone look into the matter further and when you do you’ll see that even tho they claim to, it’s not ACTUALLY their goal. Their goal is control. Once we all realize the UN (& the WEF & WHO etc) don’t actually care about anyone but themselves, we can see through their bs & hopefully avoid their totalitarian tactics & world takeover.
This reminds me of my marks
Great argument.... if you think everyone agrees with you.
Is possible for Bangladesh to achieve the SD Goals within 2030. Hope for the Best.
Take your goals and go.....well,you know.
I am doubt aobut the rank of personal rights, what are the indicators for this aspect? But I admit it is hard to judge.
Where did the data about "inclusiveness" came from? What I see over here is in Brazil is somewhat better than 10 years ago, can't see how it could be worse.
Probably the same reason as the U.S., populist presidents signal oppression whether it's true or not. Seen where Brazil's president was being touted as "Tropical Trump". Also wasn't there some kinda big corruption scandal with the outgoing administration in Brazil.
The data exposed in the video, if i'm not mistaken compares 2015 with 2018, not 2008 with 2018. And that would make a lot more sense given te regression showed.
Brazil, in the past few years, has essentially experienced a non-military coup. The ex-president has been thrown in jail. Massive protests have been occurring. An extreme right-wing government beholden to corporate interests has installed itself. Massive portions of the Amazon rainforest that were previously not under threat are now in danger of exploitation (the new president has expressed that natives living there have no rights to the land). These things are not of interest/reported on by regular media. Seeing BRICS Nations On A Possitive Trajectory Gives Some Hope. Makes Me Wonder Where South Africa Would Be In 2030.
Great...3rd one😎
Back in 2015 when he gave the same talk M Green stated that we were about 61 on the social progress index. And indicated that if we raise GDP average globally from 14000 usd to 23k usd we would see SPI rise to just 62.4.
Well, we did not raise gdp and yet we got to 69 on the SPI.
He also said we would not hit 80 odd by 2030. But we went up nearly 10 base points in 3 years. How?

HOW TO DEFINE PERSONAL RIGHTS?Is what ones said true?
CIVID-19 response Goal number 12: The current crisis is an opportunity for a profound, systemic shift to a more sustainable economy that works for both people and the planet.
The emergence of COVID-19 has underscored the relationship between people and nature and revealed the fundamental tenets of the trade-off we consistently face: humans have unlimited needs, but the planet has limited capacity to satisfy them. We must try to understand and appreciate the limits to which humans can push nature, before the impact is negative. Those limits must be reflected in our consumption and production patterns.
COVID-19 can be a catalyst for social change. We must build back better and transition our production and consumption patterns towards more sustainable practices.
We must fight corruption, first.
And dictatorships like China, Russia, North Korea and Iran too
A very descriptive presentation. However, I would have one more comment. Yes, water and sanitation is a solved problem in developed countries. But the technology requires high financial resources and technical knowledge and therefore can not be easily applied to developing countries.
I love this guy. He's a pleasant British inbetween of Hans Rosling and Bjørn Lomborg.

Your goals will never totally be achieved
@@shavingryansprivates4332 goals are not supposed to be totally achieved, they are supposed to be mile stones to a bigger objective that needs that those goals addapt to changing conditions, some goals you will never achieve because in the way they may stop being relevant to you. The really important thing is that you keep growing as a person.
@@marianagodinezsansores1014 true. That is why saying you want to achieve your own goalse before you help others is just an excuse. Nobody is perfect nobody is going to reach perfection you shouldn't have an excuse for not helping others.

How?
So we are at 2022 where we are in achieving the the goals??
Iya sih dibanding kebanyakan negara lain, idup udh enak di Indonesia.
Well that's some good news and some sad news 🤔
Their growth forecast for the Philippines is so weird, its the most geopolitically stable country and highest GDP per capita on the list after China, yet they put Bangladesh and Ethiopia ahead of it.
Globally (together) we should mainly concentrate on ensuring the first one- basic human needs. The second and third should be the responsibility of each country to achieve, with each country deciding whomever they which to cooperate with to achieve those goal. Especially the third as it's kind of subjective and potentially dangerous if that power is given to a global organisation. Countries shouldn't be bullied by other countries who've accused them of not being "inclusive enough".
👍🏻👏🏻
Political leaders are biggest Hurdle to achieve SDG targets. They always focus to win next election rather than Sustainable Development Goals.
What about the environmental changes?
so youre telling me that what fringe groups are doing, isnt making it better for themselves?
Are we on the same page ?
The most important global goal is feeding the poor

Yes, let’s work really hard on this for them so we all can be their slaves with no individual rights🎉🎉🎉🎉
Damon Asselmeier where are you getting this logic from? I’m interested
China's human rights are even lower than India's, what a joke! I do not know this guy who is giving a speech, but he definitely needs to learn more and do more researches.
But china is richer so it overweights their human rights violations
Human rights for the SDG agenda is protecting humans from themselves. The China model is what the UN seeks. Social credit system, 15 minute smart cities, technology surveillance, oppressive police state, propaganda state media,. . .
1:24 I’d say focus on the first six extensively first.
The more people who are better off and more educated, the better solutions we can have going forward with the rest of the goals. 🌎
Edit: also I would say that this is more of a wish list as oppose to a goal setting list.
We should’ve had at most 10 if not again focus on the first 6.
Edit: also we should have property rights for all people. So everyone can have the opportunity wherever they live to own and invest in real estate.
Of course China communist party wouldn’t want that, but screw them and there human rights abuses
Edit: Correction all these people want with there goals is absolute control of individuals with there great reset. These people need to be stopped.
seems like the world is going backward nowadays more than in 2018. Sad world, sad earth.

the type of help 3rd class countries like Africa and some Asian countries are receiving isn't going to make a difference, they should be equipped with skills, i am talking about modern skills.
