Mariachi Women's Foundation presents LAUSD YOUTH with mariachi workshops on May 1, 2023.

The Mariachi Women's Foundation presented a mariachi workshop for Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) youth from middle and high schools in East Los Angeles. The mariachi workshop was given by Mariachi Sol de Mexico and Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles as part of the California Arts Council's Arts Education Exposure grant. Many thanks to Director José Hernández for his engagement. MWF Executive Director, Leonor Xóchitl Pérez and LAUSD Teacher Liaison, Guillermo Gonzalez collaborated to make this phenomenal event possible. The workshop was held at Plaza de La Raza with the assistance of Executive Director Maria Jimenez Torres. Participating schools included Garfield High School, Roosevelt High School, Mendez High School, Wilson High School, El Sereno Middle School and Griffith STEAM Magnet Middle School. We are grateful to LAUSD mariachi program teachers Guillermo Gonzalez, Irineo Yañez, Patricia Marín and Letty Callela-Austin who are committed and go above and beyond the call of duty to support their students. This workshop preceded the 10th International Mariachi Women's Festival that was also a component of the CAC Arts Exposure Grant.
