There's a missing piece to the construction of a Pacific Nuclear Umbrella, despite Taiwan operating as a "de facto State".

Hong Kong security law was implemented in Hong Kong and by the H.K legislature in accordance with Hong Kong Basic Law Article 18, which allows for Chinese laws to be valid in Hong Kong if they are included in Annex III.
It started off with the extradition bill which the rioters objected to. That meant anyone who committed a crime in another country could be extradited to the country of origin if requested. H.K never had that law so criminals could be free from being deported to face punishment. That is what happened to the H.K guy who killed his girlfriend in Taiwan then went back to the city. He could not be sent to Taiwan to face trial as there was no extradition treaty. Basically he was only jailed for theft of a credit card and cash and not murder. .
To be fair to Australia, they are a small fry and are currently preoccupied with wokeness at the expense of their economy. They don't really have the ability or internal support to stand up to China. The best they can do is keep their exports going, pretend to their population that they aren't under the yoke of China, and keep pushing woke policies for the illusion of being able to control at least some portion of their destiny. I wish it weren't this way as I have many friends and business associates from Australia. But with a country of only 25 million, the only way for them to have any semblance of independence from their giant regional hegemon is to be internally solid and unified, which they are not.

If they present a unified front against the CCP, that would be the time we should get involved. A thing to add about the Taiwan legislature power grab (that's what most here call it) is that, even if they get past the veto, the judicial can declare it unconstitutional. As one of the parts of that is that they want to dissolve an entire branch of government. The one that oversees the legislative branch for things like corruption and other criminal activities... The people working in the judicial branch have already said that these rules passed are not and cannot be constitutional.

As a taiwanese, I voted for a small party even more pro independence than DPP, simply because I thought 1 party controlling both president and Congress is bad. Now I regret my vote every day.
