Put together a Polar P9 with 159s after a few years riding exclusively popsicles with 144s, and man I skated that board until I finally just destroyed the nose with wallies. Rode it two or three times longer than I usually ride a popsicle
I grew up racing moto/ off-road all my life and never got into skating, but a couple years after I retired I broke my leg trying to miss a dear on my dual sport bike. So nothing else to do but sit on the couch. In one day I came across a podcast called #TheNineClub , i’m sure whoever is reading more than likely has heard of the show, If not go check it out. So I started watching episodes and got stoked once my leg healed up, I went to my local shop and bought a @RavenTershy Chocolate Board, threw Indy’s on with SpitFire Wheels, and Grizzly grip. Side note, I was 35 when I bought my first board, and that was 3 years ago. So I was to say a huge thanks to Crob,Roger, #TeamEldy , Kelly and Stezus for giving this old guy the inspiration to learn something new. People think I’m crazy for my background in moto, but I tell them every time that learning to skate is the hardest one of them all to learn, but once you figure out how to ride your board the possibilities are endless. Sorry a bit long winded just very thankful to have a new passion. #StreetMulisha417
Thank you Mr Chico Brenes for explaining every board and every truck in under 5 minutes. 109 skinny, 129 for 7 inch, 139 for 8 inch, 149 or 159 for 9 inch and 215 for over size. Much appreciated. Very cool boards.
some OGs go down on sizes on their setup as they got older.. some pushed it up like him, Chief etc..at the end of the day its still just a skateboard we still enjoy. Cheers chico..legend
Respect for Chico Brenes. He's always been and will always be one of my favorite skaters. Real goat and legend. OG straight up! It's amazing he does tricks from a 2x4 to an 11-inch board. He's insane. NICA, please!
Chico is one of the best dudes for one of these vids. Def glad to nerd out on his setups for a bit.. My quiver has 169s, 215s, and some Ace classic 66s (jus cuz i wanted to try a 9.3 axle) and the 169s have been my ace boons since i first set them up maybe a decade ago. As a size 15 shoe i needed more control over my truck, especially for transition, so the 169s are mad comfy. The 159s i had got stolen years ago, but this 9.0 egg i set up is begging for them. When i finally upped to 215s, i felt outta my league, but they forced me to become a better sk8r, AND NOW my downhill is SO MUCH BETTER! I grew up eating shxt on those thin, early 2000s popsicle setups, but w/ the big bois 👉🏽 higher speeds are much better to control. Get u some bigger setups. I kicked my popsicle addiction years ago, and i recommend u do too. Skating different setups will make u an overall better skater, which is the most fulfilling thing.
God damn you got some big feet! I thought I had it bad with size 13s! I'm stoked that as someone who grew up skating on the skinny minis of the 90s where 8" was considered HUGE there's finally wider deck & trucks options these days for us bigger guys!
I love how Chico drills back the front truck so the wheel base is smaller and the nose gets bigger what a smart guy. Fuck best style huge fan , independent trucks for life!
I've been riding Independents since 1990. I had stock, like World Industries and stuff like that when I buy a skateboard that is stock, but Indys feel amazing and last forever. I had Gullwings too but I have never ridden Trackers. Like Brenes, I like big shapes now and keep a 8" or 7.75" around but changing definitely keeps it fresh, even lonboarding. I don't know if it's the age, or just the need variation.
Same! Got two sets of iNDYS! Gonz grey and blue on the popsicle and some wide daddy's on the pink Cab Dragon shaped board! Moving my Gonz up to a bigger size though.
That Dog Town set up looks sick. I got some 215 indys just saving them for the right deck. Been riding Indys since the late 80s. Tried others but always came back.
@@yahniechichicongomuntunga9459 I think I am figuring out what happened there, if you look closer at 3:20 the holes actually are aligned, I think he drilled the ones on the bottom, the inner holes , uneven by mistake, so he decided to ignore the wrong ones he drilled, and decided to drill 2 holes once again, but on the top side instead, using the original 2 bottom holes plus the drilled top ones. It makes more sense now.
It is fairly common for old school boards/extremely large boards to have 2 sets of drilled holes per truck. For example, I have a 9.75 cruiser setup that I'll use maybe once a month or so. The deck came with with two sets of hole for.each truck. The purpose of this is to adjust your wheelbase based on personal preference. I have the option to have a 15.25 wheelbase, or a 14.50 wheelbase. The 15.25 is designed for the more classic cruiser feel, while the 14.50 narrower wheelbase is designed to make flip tricks easier, or to just simulate the feel of a traditional popsicle shape. Chico is doing one of two things in this video. 1. The Dogtown deck actually only came with one set of pre drilled holes so Chico decided to make the deck to where he could ride a shorter wheelbase and make tricks like his famous Nollie Heelflip easier. Or 2. The Dogtown deck DID come with the two sets of pre drilled holes and Chico was using his drill to widen the holes for the hardware he was using.
3:20 - 3:28 he clearly drilled those top holes crooked and the trucks are not Alined... yeah that thing dont ride strait. But hey it's his board and he can wreck it how ever he wants, But that would piss me off my board always turning to the left.
Nice! I was given a pair of 215s on a huge board I think it’s also 11” something and they’re so fun for cruising! Unfortunately here in Vietnam there’s not many skate shops stocking more than 147s, in fact I think there’s only one pair of 149s left, anyone tried the titaniums, are they lighter than normal indys?
No, I've known Chico for years. He has always ridden indys. you can actually see that in the 90's videos of him skating or photos of him from back in the 90's as well.
Oye esa pose final dice mucho de BRENES, también es bueno a los turkazos, de ahí que sacará un diseño de tablas turkiando a un gringo ❤ ahora no la quiero la necesito
southernfriedchicken92 sick. i skate mostly transition too i notice when im really hanging on to my board im chillin squat on my back truck gotta be able to really lean on it. but then when im mobbing back home i got to be able to maneuver quick in the street so im all up front pushing and steering at the same time. call it my atv
My first investment with Mr Dave Jevans gave me the assurance that have made me invest without the fear of losing, I got four of my friends involved with him already
Chico flipped that
11.8 DogTown with 215s like a G💪
Fakie big spin flip 😲
If this ad doesn’t sell you a set of Indy’s you’ve lost your mind! Chico is a LEGEND! BIG LOVE from Texas!
The part about new shapes lighting a fire inside. Feel that 100% Awesome watch og

Hahah I cannot imagine getting on like a 9 inch board and thinking "first trick I'm gonna do is a nollie heel" Chico is awesome
It was an 11.875
Chico as a skater I wanted to say I appreciate your standard of skating. Also the Nollie heel with bolts drilled back 🔥

I skate for 20 years I stoped 5 but I will back!
this man taught me how to get girls back in the 90's.
Proof you gotta change it up. Get weird with it. Have your main but have fun.

With all do respect chico....what's up with the 7.5's or the 7.75's? You got this!if anything those big ass boards got your ankles strong

This is my comment, nollie flip a 11.5 😱👍
Does anyone make skateboarding look more fun than Chico!?
How are 215? I have 169 on my current setup but I haven't skated in 2 or 3 years so I'm trying to get back into the swerve of things

You saw that too 😂
By like a whole inch 3:20 😑this guy's a pro though.
BRING BACK THE CROSS LOGO!
Chico been smoking that fire crack rock
Gotta love cheeks
my back truck is tighter for stability and the front truck is looser for agility cuz thats where im pushing

What size is that sweatpants deck? It doesn’t look like a 9.8
9.81 at the widest but tapers a little smaller
@@isaacbartonskate sorry, I know what size the sweatpants decks are, I’ve got one but for some reason the one in this video doesn’t look as big.
Those split bushings only couple months old 😭
Bring the logo back
Из этого видео я понял, что ни в коем случае нельзя отбирать у Чико его подвески
They quit making lows in like 2004.
lol those trucks at 3:28 are def screwed in crooked
😶
If it ain't broke dont fix it . Most skaters dont need or want a bunch of fancy shit.
3:20 the bloke broke his brand new board before even riding it
Ride the Best Fuck the Rest
nollie heel on a 12" board with (almost) no nose....wtf
215s kinda suck. They work and stuff tho.
Independent Woke Co.
You need to pixelate out the old N*zi logo on his trucks and bleep out the swear word Independent.
