    I just completed my PAST test. Was originally going in as Special Reconnaissance, but failed my 500m swim by 6 seconds. My scores were 12 pull ups, 65 sit ups, 50 push ups, 10:14 run time, passed both underwaters, then 500m 15:06.. That failed me for the day, they are very serious about everything you do and if you only do the bare minimum for each exercise they will not be impressed. They want competitive numbers. I'm now going to go through the SERE Specialist program because I need to ship ASAP cause parents hate me lol. A lot of people failed that day at the PAST / IFT test. You guys got this, I almost gave up multiple times on my run and my 500m, failing is better than quitting always and they will remind you of that. Just get through it.

    The best way to learn how to survive is to go to the harshest environments available to you and practice. The best training in the world with these folks is a great addition but if you don't practice any of this on your own, you won't know who you really are when shtf. I know this because I've lived in the coldest and the hottest (-60f to 125f) places on earth for years at a time without power or running water etc while hunting and gathering a lot of my food for fun. Its all about return on investment of your energy expenditures and consciously controlling your bodily processes. No other animal on the planet has ever been able to do that like we can, and its the reason our species survived the ice age without modern clothing or footwear. I will strongly consider becoming a SERE instructor after I finish this next season of wildland firefighting

    In regards to the parachuting, is it freefall or just basic airborne down in benning or the progression pipeline of both? In regards to the dive, is it similar to combatant dive or are they just doing basic diving? Also if you come from a different branch with similar accomplished training, does anything translate over and isn't required? Thanks man.

    • @Jodywithawhy
      @Jodywithawhy  4 роки тому +1

      The parachuting is static line only for the basic SERE specialist. There are opportunities to do HALO as an advanced SERE specialist, but it’s not something entry level specialist do. Same as dive, there’s no entry level dive training, just water survival.
      But there is a program called guardian angel that allows you to do some advanced stuff, if you can get accepted into that program later.
      With your previous skills, they may help some, but you’d have to get with a Special Warfare recruiter to really figure out all the ins and outs. I’d recommend you download the Aim high and find a recruiter. They can really help answer all your deeper questions.

    @JodywithaWHY Hey mate, it's my understanding that I would have to pass the PAST before going to BMT, correct? Also, if this is the case does that mean I am guaranteed to be in SERE and I don't have to list 7 job options? I know it's important not to be job locked. SERE would be my 'dream job' where as some other options I'd list would be more like getting a job to get benefits.

    • @Jodywithawhy
      @Jodywithawhy  4 роки тому +2

      What’s up man. Yes you would have to take the PAST before going to BMT. You would also have to list those 7-10 jobs when you go to MEPS, and you won’t be able to list SERE while there, because at that point you don’t qualify for it.
      After you return from MEPS, then your recruiter will coordinate with a Special Forces recruiter to get you scheduled for a PAST test. If you pass, or if you impress them enough to be picked up, at that point you fall into the special warfare program.
      Then the jobs you listed when you first went to MEPS don’t matter anymore. But if you don’t get accepted into the special warfare program, then you’ll get one of those jobs you listed.

      Running is key. It’s the most important of the PT test. So I would recommend getting into run shape. Doesn’t mean you have to stop lifting, just means you gotta start running. Body weight workouts help too, but you’ll lose your bulk that way. So you just gotta find balance between the two. I’ve seen some pretty bulky dudes crush the run, so it’s possible.

      Terry Brown unfortunately these credits won’t help you much towards an orthodontist degree. But once you knock out your Community college of the Air Force associates degree, you can continue your education using the tuition assistance the air force offers, and complete the Orthodontist degree.
      Even if you didn’t finish it while actively serving, you’re still entitled the Post 9/11 GI Bill which will cover up to 36 months of education after you separate from the Air Force.

      These credits will only go towards an associate of applied science degree. You can then take your transcripts to an education office on base, and they’ll develop a bachelors program for you, and tell you how many credit’s remain.
      The benefits of joining with associates are because you have over 45 semester hours, you can come in as an E-3 which pays about $300 more a month than an E-1. Also, you’re ahead of your peers and would be eligible for the next rank quicker.

Compared to special tactics it ain’t on the same level physically it’s more like Tac-P minus the combat but you now can work with PJ’s on SAR. This is why you should never ever trust your recruiter bc most of the time they’re simply not all that knowledgeable if you’re coming from military community, friends, and family but it’s a good way to test if they’re scum willing to sell you down river for their numbers.
