I was living in Japan for a while last year and I was desperate to go to Fuji-Q Highland, but I ended up not having enough money. I did however manage to ride the Thunder Dolphin at Tokyo Dome City and that was incredible. It was a super smooth ride, and really exhilarating. Loved it!

Whenever one of these types of videos is posted I don't watch it, I have to go to my kitchen get some chips, go the living room, connect my phone to the tv and then watch it.
The video game one looks fun. I just went to Disney World and since I’m in a wheelchair, we got to experience some pretty unique ride versions, including one where my wheelchair went straight into the ride car then turned on a turn table to face forward. But the best one was the Toy Story arcade game ride. I was taken up a side ramp and they have a separate train for handicap guests that has 2 cars on it that can be pulled off the main tracks. This meant we had all the time in the world to board, which was nice as I had to transfer from my chair for that ride. Once into the ride, my mom noticed a big difference in the actual cars of the train- instead of having to pull a cord to fire the cannon to play the games, we had simple press buttons on top. It was a nice feature and after long days with wore us both out, it was nice to have a simpler control option. (I never would have noticed since I’d never been on the ride before. My mom goes often, however, and was familiar with the normal controls.) But best of all? No one else in a wheelchair was waiting when we got back to the station, so we got to ride twice!
I love the thought put into that train. My Mom (although not a big coaster lover) did have difficulty getting to the few tamer ones she loved at our local park. Now some have elevators, but at that time, they didn't. I love to see the inclusion.
I’m living in Japan for a few years and just got on Thunder Dolphin for the first time. Excellent first drop, and the fly-through elements with the building and Ferris wheel are solid, but it does lose a bit of steam on the second lap while it’s on top of the building. I’m planning to get out to Fuji Q next month and am super jazzed. Once travel is safe again, you should make a Japan coaster pilgrimage!
Actually there were four coasters that surpassed the 6g limit. The first one (which some of you may remember as ''The Texas Tornado'' or ''Zonga'') is the former Thriller, which before it's first drop was shortened during the transfer from Six Flags AstroWorld to Discovery Kingdom, reached up to 6.5g's during the entrance of the first loop (because the loopings had a more circular shape compared to the more common teardrop shape used nowadays). The last seat row in the back was even closed due to complaints about riders hurting their neck because of the high g forces. The other one was a wooden roller coaster built in the 1910s (which actually was the first roller coaster to ever feature an inversion as far as I know) which reached up to 12g when entering the looping, which was due to the insanely small size of the circular loop.
I went on the thunder dolphin ride and it was amazing! it was actually much higher then I expected. And yes I can confirm they were very wary about possible items that could fall out. I had to take everything off from necklace to rings and glasses but I guess that's to be expected.
Every time I watch these videos, it makes me want to travel to all these different amusement parks and I can't afford that. I guess I just have to live vicariously through these videos. >.>
If you want a more thrilling ocean tunnel ride, see Osiris at PARC Asterix. The ride is an inverted coaster that dives under the lake. I believe the theming of the ride may be better than no. 7
I was able to go to both Nagashima Spaland and Fuji Q while my dad was working in Japan a few years back, both parks were very memorable.. But really the coaster I miss the most is certainly the Steel Dragon 2000.. Even though it was winter and I was freezing it was worth every time.
Thanks for using my night footage of vanish! I think your right to put steel dragon 2000 where you did. Great ride! If one was going to japan just to do theme parks I'd say Fuji q highland and Disneysea are two must sees. If you have time universal studios Japan is wacky!
There was also an Ultra Twister at Astroworld in Houston. It was the standard version. I got to ride that back in 2002, and it was so cool. Maybe the most unique coaster I've ever ridden, and it was also a very smooth ride.
Eric Thomason I didn't know that before. That's interesting. Looking it up now, Great Adventure had it for 3 years. Astroworld had it for 16 years, so I'm sure more people rode it there. I wonder if it would still be operating today if Astroworld didn't close.
I was in Joyopolis in Tokyo last year and it is definitely worth going to. They feature a number of small rides, but what makes it stand out is the virtual reality "simulators". The only problem is that during the evenings, the wait times for these are ridiculous. Joyopolis is located near Odaiba where there are lots of other things to do as well, so I definitely recommend going there.
I'm not sure if it was the first or not, but the Anaconda at Kings Dominion had the underwater tunnel with the water spray when it was new, I remember because it was my first arrow coaster and the first one with an inversion I rode. The old Alpine Sleighs was very innovative for it's time and provided a quick escape from the summer heat! The list goes on. SWAT was another first. Don't know if there are any left in the USA. The memories go on. 6 flags ruined everything with greed. Thinking they would make stockholders a bundle, they lied to sell the land. 610/Kirby? Pretty valuable. And it still sits there...Empty.
