Have you thought of tearing your collage papers instead of cutting them, it gives a different look and the torn edges blend into the paper or canvas so you don't even see the edges as much. Just a thought.
thank you = You came recommended by our Art Therapist with Moore’s Cancer Center here in San Diego. Alessandra Colfi is the greatest art therapist and encouraged us by watching you and your 5 day challenge for inspiration. Thank you from San Diego
Thank you Grace for sharing that with me. I just read your comment out to my husband and he said to me that this is one of the best things my art could ever be used for! I am so glad that my creative content can provide some comfort and inspiration to anyone who needs it ❤️
You are very talented. And, you are a good teacher. Over the past 20 years, little by little, I have purchased most of the mediums you are using. lol. I never got good at using them. But now I’m going to go for it. Thanks, treen 💕💕💕
Thank you so much! I am certain the more that you use them and play with them the better your results will be! It certainly takes time, patience, and practice 😊🎨
I have just discovered your UA-cam channel, about three days ago and I am so glad I did. You truly give value and inspiritation. Thank you for sharing your wonderful knowledge.
Wonderful video especially to watch whilst eating breakfast! I find you so inspiring and your videos and classes are the best 😍 I love how peaceful they are too and especially appreciate how you leave space for comfortable silence whilst you’re working. Thank you!
Thank you. I'm delighted that you said that, as sometimes I worry that there should be more talking or noise, but sometimes it's lovely to just watch a process unfold. There's a lot that can be taken in without the need for words. It's a balance. Glad you enjoyed!
@@LauraHornArt honestly think it’s the perfect balance. I find UA-cam hard bc so many people create really hyped up, incessant chatter and noisy videos and I find myself either not watching, or skipping through so I can get the bit of information I want but don’t have to put up with them. But yours I can watch all the way through and enjoy. After watching I made 19 gel plate prints in a proper flow state 😍🙌
Thank you! I can't tell you how much my studio lights me up. It's a dream come true and has the most beautiful light, outlook, and overall feeling! I feel very blessed.
Thank you Laura for this excellent and instructive lesson. I wonder if you might at some point also show how you create that lovely blended background!? I have great trouble with this first step. Your work is so beautiful ❤ thank you again😊
Thanks so much for always sharing so much with us. The single most helpful lesson I learned from this class was the use of either clear gesso or the golden pastel ground. I’ve often experienced the problem of my crayons not being effective on an acrylic painting so I’ve literally just tried your suggestion with some clear gesso I had. It’s a eureka moment! The crayons now have such impact on my piece 😊
Laura, This video is very helpful, and I appreciate you sharing your experience with these products. I wasn't aware of Golden's Pastel Ground and now must order it today. Your new studio is beautiful and so much light! It must be your happy place. Thank you for all of your videos and all the best to you.
Thanks Diane! And yes it most definitely is my happy place. I think you'll enjoy the Golden Pastel Ground, it's a great product. Can't get over how well it works.
Wonderful video Laura with very interesting techniques. I’ve just finished your Modern Mixed Media class and it was great, I learned so much. Thank you!🤗❤
Ive been starting to use gel prints on my canvases so it’s helpful to see how you’re doing it. Can you show all the art supplies you’re using really well Thank you
Oh my goodness...I just purchased my first Gel Press and was thinkng about getting the stabilo woody pencils. I'm so excited to learn how to use the Gel Plate, and you just made it seem so much less intimidating. Love your studio, love those huge canvases! Thank you for sharing today!
Lovely to see you here Sheila! You really can just get stuck in and learn as you go with a gel press. I probably could do better prints, but if the process is enjoyable and they are going into a mixed media painting anyway, I figure I may as well just have fun and see what results curiosity and experimentation brings! Just avoid using sharp things on the plate and keep some baby wipes around to clean the plate. And you can print on anything. So fun!
@@LauraHornArt all the while I was watching your video I kept thinking “I hope she demonstrates how she uses those printings on a painting” and then, you did!!! So you actually just applied the deli paper directly to your canvas!!??!! I suspect then the medium you used to apply it with puts a protective coating over the deli paper ?? I love love love how you’re using the Gel prints on your canvas paintings!!! You are amazing!
@@sheilaschmid7768 so glad I covered teh part that you were hoping for. And yes, I just add them straight to the canvas and the gel medium puts a lovely protective coating over the print and then you can keep layering other supplies. In the next layer of the canvas I will add back in more paint and start to incorporate the collage into an overall design. I also use glazes to help bring it together. The deli paper is nice because it is very thin and keeps the surface very workable.
@@LauraHornArt if I could be a butterfly in your garden and peek into your studio I’d be amazed at all the creative things you incorporate into your lovely art 😍

Clear gesso is perfect and a little bit cheaper and you can even make your own gesso. Good luck.😊
lovely demo but please don't lay your brayer down on the roller, always lay it down on the bar so the roller does not stick and get ruined.
