I absolutely love your approach Laura and explanation of planting seeds into several sketchbooks. It has taught me not to be overly obsessed with having to complete any one page! I find this so liberating and less judgemdntal about my efforts. I'm so grateful to have found your channel 🎉 it's like breathin new air into my lungs! ❤
Thank you for sharing your sketchbook with us. Love to see how excited you are about experimenting longer. Sometimes we get caught up in the process and forget to enjoy each part. I listened to this episode of the podcast twice and really loved it. Very insightful and glad to hear you are not caving to the Instagram pressure to do reels. I think they probably have their place in social media, but at 57, I find them frustrating for anything that I really want to spend time to LOOK at, and art is one of those things I want to take my time enjoying. Love your work and your gentle, mindful way, Laura.
Wow, thank you for such thoughtful and kind feedback. I love our podcast and have found joy in not committing to social media trends. I love my blog, my videos, and connecting with viewers like you in a more personal way! The platforms I do use always feel much more personal and welcoming, so I am glad you feel the same. Thank you for watching! 😊💖
Thank you for sharing. Loved seeing your sketch book. I am reminded how much I loved using this journal that I totally filled. Loved the paper! I so enjoyed reading this book also! A good reminder to write in our sketchbook Rick Rubin’s words of inspiration. Thank you so much for everything you share 🙏🏻❤️😘
That was awesome…I really love botanicals but struggle with water colours. I love your style and agree about sketchbooks. Another artist who is passionate about sketchbooks is Helen Wells. Her work is mainly with acrylics and a totally different style to yours but very committed to getting folk using sketchbooks.
Oh my gosh, I’m also all over the place and yes my sketchbook looks like this. I feel like I haven’t found my style and I may never find it but I’m having fun.
OMG….. every page creation is free flowing and stunning but the last yellow page really put a smile on my fave. Love your art and it really inspires me to let go and just enjoy the freedom of art.
I was looking for reviews on this sketchbook (I am planning a trip to Italy and of course, I am plotting some art supply shopping) ... and you reminded me I have the Rick Rubin book on Audible myself and I think I should listen to it again. Such a wonderful gift he gave all creatives.
Thank you Laura for showing us your awesome ideas in your sketchbook. I am also reading Rick Ruben's book, and I have highlighted so many of his ideas. I love your page on Seeds and I am going to try playing and experimenting with my colors.
I so enjoyed seeing the pages in your journal. I haven’t tried negative space painting yet. I started my first art journal book in February and only used the pages that were on the right side…not knowing if the paper could handle being painted on the backs…well I went back and started the left pages after I finished the others. It’s a hodge-podge of uncohesiveness but it’s my exploring as a new artist. Thank you again! I put a hold for that book at the library.
Here is another video on my channel How to paint fun botanicals I Easy negative space technique ua-cam.com/video/KcIXbWGaV34/v-deo.htmlsi=DOJmxxcoYVSsnoxK if you want to try it! I am so glad you're exploring and it is so fun to be in a state of just absorbing all of the information around you! Thank you so much for watching!
I really appreciate your sharing how you work in your sketchbook. Most often this is how I create art but sometimes I feel bad that I’m not really making art….so your willingness to share your pages is very helpful and inspiring. I also love Rick Rubin’s book.
I love what you have shared with us. Your work is so beautiful! I need to experiment more, that's how you grow as an artist, not to keep repeating what you already know.
I’m feeling so inspired by your sketchbook work, thank you, my sketchbook is definitely coming out today. Also have you seen the Kuretaki granulating colours, they are so yummy, lm looking to find some but haven’t yet
What a beautiful collection of experimentation! That audiobook sounds like something I'd like. At 7:37 in the video I fell in love with your blue flowers. I have many blue inks but I don't have one as vibrant as that. Would you tell me what color blue that is? Can't wait to listen to your awesome podcast today. I like listening to your podcast when doing my own art
Thank you, it's a fantastic audio book. My favourite book on creativity so far! The inks on that page are Royal Talens Amsterdam brand. I used a few different blues, but mainly Ultramarine and Primary Cyan. They have some fantastic colours in their range.
This was exactly what I needed to see this morning to rekindle my creativity. Where are the links to the supplies you mentioned? Would it be possible for you share them in this comment section?

Interesting... Fabriano is the only paper pad I ever returned to a store b/c I thought the quality was so bad. I have used their Ecoqua line of journals for writing and find those to be ok though. I also bought the Kuretake 24 set, I believe as my 1st upgrade from student watercolor pans and thought the quality was actually worse than Prang children's sets! I gave those away. They didn't feel like watercolor at all, but watered down acrylic. They didn't perform as watercolors. I really hated them
That is interesting. I wouldn't say Fabriano is my favourite paper by a long shot; I just find that there's something about that book that makes me want to keep experimenting-it might even be because the paper isn't amazing. I do enjoy the Kuretake paints, but I agree with you-they are not really like watercolour. That's one of the reasons they aren't in my latest video about watercolour supplies-they are much more gouache/acrylic-like. There are some pretty colours though, and they are vibrant; they just don't have that sheer glisten of watercolour and lovely watercolour effects.
thank you for sharing your beautiful art and process with generosity , but I must say : this fabriano sketchbook s**** ! It s totally horrible for watercolors even the Kuretake , not very nice for drawing either and the only use I could find for it it's to do some abstract grid with acrylic . It buckles , peel off ... I ll never buy it again. This is my modest personal opinion. But I would 100% recommend the beautiful art nouveau kuretake pallet , so awesome ! Bisous from France !
Hello! I really loved this video - looking through your sketch book. This cemented into my mind the need to just play in a sketchbook. To use it to see what ideas might come up. Then be able to use those ideas for a piece of art. I think I've really been missing the boat by not using a sketchbook to get me further into my art processes - if this makes sense🤔😊Thanks Laura. You are always an inspiration! Susan in AZ🥰🏜️
Wish you showed more of your Art, instead of talk, talk TALKING. Art is about images and watching artist creating a piece speaks Louder than all the endless WORDS. Why not be a writer if talking, reading is your passion.
It may not be for you, but many people enjoy words and art. Art can be many things. It comes down to taste. Maybe silent UA-cam channels might be more enjoyable for you and that’s fine, but thats not what you’ll find here. I won’t be changing my path as I’m happy being a chatty artist that reads books.

I agree, it’s such a fun sketchbook to fill up. Just something about it and wow, isn’t Rick Rubin amazing. I love his approach ❤️

Thank you Laura. This really helps in keeping the mind open to so many new possibilities.
Well said! Thank you for watching!
Love ‘messy middle’. We’ve all been there.
💯 It's a common place to end up in art, isn't it?! 😊
OMG….. every page creation is free flowing and stunning but the last yellow page really put a smile on my fave. Love your art and it really inspires me to let go and just enjoy the freedom of art.

I love that last page - and that book! The yellow was exciting to see!
Thank you! 😊💖
When you read that paragraph, it really hit my heart in a good way. Wow, thank you for sharing that. I looooove this paragraph, too.
A bit of a heart-pouring-open moment, isn't it? Love when readings hit me that way!

Wonderful!
I love the spread you did in yellow. What is the botanical you added? I love the shape of this. Thank you for sharing your art with us.
It's a poppyseed pod! Such an interesting shape, but I found it fitting because I was inspired by talking about seeds 😊
Reminds me of a poppy seed
Very inspiring share as usual. Merci 😊
Thank you so much!
I thoroughly enjoyed the video. Thanks for showing your experimental art and I love the quote. How do you do negative art? I would love to learn

Do youremember what pen you used to draw your botanicals on the black themed (second page in!) page? So in love with your videos!
I am not certain, but you can find my favorite pens to use in this list! www.laurahornart.com/art-supplies
Please, which Kuretake set are you using?
