I went with the GTworx bilstien/yellow spring set up. Since it's an STI it's already pretty stiff stock. The new set up is definitely a bit more stiff but the improved bilstien dampening makes up for it. Overall, the performance improvement is well worth the added bump. Still daily drive.
Is it normal to get creeping sounds at low speeds like when the body flexes? Also sometimes when the car sits over night and and move a couple feet it do a clunk when I get off the sidewalk
Looks nice but man, I wouldn’t be able to go up or down any driveway without being paranoid as shit. Im already scraping with the OEM lip on my 19 STI. Did you also consider the “Black” version? How about some spacers? I have some 15mm GarageLine’s coming in. Theres online images of STI’s on yellows and 20mm spacers that look pretty sick. Great input on the ride quality. I’m curious how durable they’ll be in the long run.
Thanks. I wanted the drop more than anything and the RCE Blacks wouldn't have been worth the trouble at 10mm only. I got new wheels now for the fitment I was looking for. No spacers. Have new videos coming on the new wheels, alignment, fitment, etc. Check out my Instagram if you want to see what the car looks like now.
Yes. There is no need to install any other parts for alignment. I do recommend taking the car to a shop specializing in performance alignment. See my alignment specs in video ua-cam.com/video/3cplFS0F5cI/v-deo.html
Not really. RCE has done more R&D than on this platform than anyone I know so it was the easy choice. My car also came with Bilstein dampers from factory that are perfectly paired with the yellow springs.
The rear does sit a bit lower than the fronts and that is something you should keep in mind before installing these springs. The springs do offer the same 20mm drop front and rear though. If you look at the car carefully the front fender is simply higher than the rear which is a common design in a lot of cars. This makes it appear like the rear is lower. It does not look saggy at all and for most people it looks fine, but it is noticeable if you pay attention. Im very picky with this myself and that is one of the reasons I switched to coilovers so that I can adjust to my liking. If RCE would compensate for the body design and offer a spring set that would lower 25 to 30mm front and 20mm rear I think it would be perfect.
Lowering springs can certainly put additional stress on the shocks if specs for both are not aligned. In this case, RCE specifically designed the springs to work with the factory shocks so there should be no concerns with that. You can contact them directly with any questions and they are generally good at getting back to you.
Not sure this is what you are asking about but here is a link to the RCE installation guide s3.amazonaws.com/racecompengineering/instructions/2015-2017+WRX_STI%20SpringInstructions.pdf
My car has Bilstein shocks (factory option with the series gray) that are much better quality than many of the popular coil options out there. I really liked the ride quality and handling from factory. So I decided to start my suspension mod journey with springs as they are a much simpler and cost effective setup. Now that I have experience with this setup, I may consider coils in the future for more adjustability, but I would have something to compare with. The car feels and looks really good with the RCE Yellows though, so I'm in no hurry to try out some coils.
Oh, there is a difference. Especially now with the new wheels, new videos on that coming soon. Coils will always be an option in the future. I just wanted to start with the springs to keep things simple. This setup with the Bilstein shocks is also much better quality than most of the popular coilover setups out there. Unless you want to spend decent $ on Ohlins or something like that. Do you run coils?
NoGaragE30 bc racing on my 19 sti. I had rce yellow springs on my 15 wrx with 18x9.5 works cr kais. The springs were a a waste of money imo. Still looked like stock height
I believe the WRX sits higher than the STI so the overall drop would be less. I did notice the difference on my STI clearly though. How's the ride on the BC's?
@@subiwrx808flow5 my 18 sti sits perfectly with the rce and some spacers. the lack of spacers probably makes it look odd in the video cuz its sunken in. i had bc racing on my 17 si and they dont ride that great. shouldve saved more and bought fortune auto instead
Awesome video, even without the footage you mentioned this helped me a lot to get a better understanding of what to expect. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the before and after mid-video. That's what I was looking for.

I need your help! Did you cut your rear bump stops?
Nice video. Appreciate the tips and overall impression.
This was such a well done and useful vid. Thanks for this, it really helped me.

well done, lover your color
The only reason that bump stop will become an issue is if you hit a bump hard, or if you launch your car you’ll bottom out the struts more often

Where did you find all the necessary torque specs?
Were you able to get an alignment without any issues or having to buy adjustable rear control arms? Thanks for the video.

I just got 18" forged wheels for my 2019 STI. Now I need lowering springs. No way am I doing it myself.
Did you consider the mach v motorsports (fast wrx) springs? Just need minimal drop and works with stock dampers... 👍
Not really. RCE has done more R&D than on this platform than anyone I know so it was the easy choice. My car also came with Bilstein dampers from factory that are perfectly paired with the yellow springs.
Still liking them in 2024?
nice drop. btw, do u have a front clear bra film on the car?
Thanks. No film protection anywhere in the car.
Did u get the bump steer/ roll center kit to go with this? Or is there not a noticable different in that aspect?
I did not but I doubt it would have made any noticeable difference. Just a 22mm drop.
@@NoGaragE30 yea I heard over a .5 Inch drop you should get the kit, but if you don't feel a difference I'll accept it! Thanks for the speedy reply!!
I doubt you would feel a difference for street use. Track applications may be different, but I dont track my car so I could not comment on that.
Why is the rear lower than the front? And does it look saggy from back?

I'm considering these. My only concern is that I've heard lowering springs can blow your stock shocks. What is your opinion on that.

Some work with the stock dampers. These yellows are at the upper limit of working with stock dampers...
Just buy koni. When you change the design don’t expect it to not break in the long run.
What kind of lip / side-skirt / diffuser do you have?
I run the full OEM STI kit and a Verus Engineering diffuser (videos for all in channel).
What made you choose the yellow over the black?
I was looking to lower the car mainly for cosmetic reasons. The Yellows are twice the drop at 20mm vs the 10mm of thhe blacks.
Did you use 2015-2017 rce yellow on your 19 sti?
Yes. I contacted RCE and confirmed they're the same springs for all VA chassis.
May you send me the link where you get this please?
