Definitely been eyeing the FactionFab coilovers, but have seen so many people shit talking "budget" coilovers. Glad to hear that they're good quality and you like them!
I put a set of FR Spec on my STI and love them. Uploaded a short video explaining the ride height adjustment with actual math on how much the adjustments affect ride height.
I am so thrilled with how my custom-colored Fortune Auto's, from Cygnus Performance ride and handle! If anyone is in the market for coilovers, go talk to Geoff. He sold me on the Fortunes and I don't regret my decision one bit. I was initially considering the Faction Fabs but decided to save up further since they were out of stock at the time.
I purchased these on black Friday, so satisfied with them. Was pretty simple install. Have to change dampening to check all settings. Have it on 12 from softest. Nice video
What would you recommend if I’m just trying to get slightly better handling and comfort? I don’t track the car, just want to make slight improvements for daily driving. Thanks!
... not budget or mid-tier ...ST (p/n 10245018); KW V1 (p/n 10245018); Bilstein PSS10 (p/n 48-249546)...curious how the budget companies can include (camber adjustable) top hats and other features and then charge what they charge is mind boggling. The faction fab set is compelling, but I'm still trying to figure out where the company is based out of...
I just got a set of ISC N1 Sport Comfort with the SSS springs 8k front and rear and they are way more comfortable and better performing than stock especially as far as the dampening goes. I have them 6 clicks from softest for daily. The whole reason I got coilovers was because the Subaru stock setup was so bad and because of videos like yours, so thank you. Make a video of you putting the thread protectant on, because i really want to protect mine with something that is vetted and tried for this application.
I'd say maybe once or twice a year. Give them a solid cleaning and a fresh coat right before winter. Before you lock the height adjustment collars make sure you add some antiseize on the threads too!
Great educational video! I have a 2005 Lexus LS430 and I want to get some coilovers that will provide the same or similar luxurious ride that the car originally came with. I don't want to lower the car, I want the same height as originally came with. Would appreciate your suggestions as to the best option in the $400-$700? range conversion coilovers for me. Thanks!
lol most coilovers will double or triple your spring rate, also most AM dampers will be harder, so you are asking for the impossible unless you go with airbags.
thanks for the videos. I’m getting the faction fab f spec installed tomorrow. I guess I’ll find out tomorrow but how much more comfortable are they on bumpy roads now than stock?
@@mdnation4325 I think it’s a better ride but for the ride comfort you are sacrificing making the car a little more bouncy than you might be comfortable with.
thanks guys. looks like Fortune Auto doesn't use stainless steel hardware. Even after 15 years, my GTI top nuts had zero rust on them. Now, the stuff in the wheel well was a different story, but the stuff under the hood had zero corrosion. I'm a bit shocked at the condition of the Fortune Auto stuff. What does this say about the other hardware they use?
That's the only spot on the FA system that had any rust. The actual body of the coilovers (the damper tube, the springs, lower mounts, etc..) were all completely oxidation free. Seems to me like just the nut itself on the top is non-stainless. I've had the FAs for more than a year and they've seen an entire winter as well.
I got the fortune auto coils for my 17 Wrx and had So many issues with them from day one. When I opened the box the upgraded swift springs were literally loose and sliding around due to no preload on them. Finally got the instructions to set them correctly and installed the coils only to hear pop and clunk on the test drive. Checked everything and gave them a few days to see if they stopped. Three days later I ended up taking them off and got in touch with fortune auto to address the issue and they gladly warrantied the coils. Not to mention every piece of hardware was rusted including the swift springs at the bottom seat. They called back and said all 4 coilovers had blown seals and were installed with the incorrect seals and would send a complete new setup. Got my “new setup” to find the same rusted hardware coilovers (once again not preloaded) and found out they rebuilt they same set with correct seals which was bs. After accepting that fact I just put them back on the car for one day until the popping and clunking came back. Considering I paid over $2000 for this setup I sent them back and got a refund. I’ll never buy anything from them again.
Love your vids and thinking about getting a set of the F-spec. Idk if this has been answered yet but, how low can these coilovers go? Will It close the entire wheel gap?
Im debating on either the fortune autos or the FR-Spec Faction Fab but can’t really decide. Have a 2020 STI and plan to do track days maybe once or twice every other month but is still my daily driver. Any recommendation ?
Personally, if you're going to track the car, I would go with Fortune Auto or Silvers. The FR spec are also a very good option, definitely more affordable. but I think the other ones are a bit more diverse, maybe a bit more comfortable on the road because of their digressive valving.
Is there a way to verify that the preload is correct? Just seems a little strange and or not very accurate the way they want us to set preload. Like did you just spin the ring till it barely touched the plastic ring or what lol. TIA
To set the original point to begin measuring from, I screw the collar up until I can't physically move the spring anymore by hand. Then I tighten the collar the 1/4" or 1/2" or whatever the manufacturer recommends from there
Yeah they are not very clear in their instructions, I brought it up like they showed in the video but it just doesn't seem very accurate. I set them all before installing, notice I needed to drop more so did so. After adjusting the ride height my right and left rear mm spacing are off leading me to believe the preload are different. Suppose I'll follow your lead and measure each one to verify. Thanks for the response and hope to see some more videos soon. Don't think I've missed one yet. Cheers 🍻!
Remember that the springs themselves settle after installation. Depending on the car and the individual springs each corner will settle slightly different, I don't think that has to do with preload as much as differences in spring rates or corner balancing.
I've personally heard both good and bad things about them. Some people love them, some people have had issues with them, others say they're fine but not worth the price 🤷♂️
@@WRXGarage maybe ur talking about the hks hipermax IV or gt with 1 year warranty. The hipermax S on the other hand they made it 3 yrs since they’re that confident of the build. That’s what I’ve heard
I blew my tire out like that recently ( The entire inside wall of the tire was gone), on stock suspension, at like 75 mph. It was quite uneventful. I wouldn't say that your coilovers saved you during that. Probably the fact that its an awd car and was a rear tire and not a front tire.
Personally, I'm not a fan of BC. If you're going for the budget option FactionFab is a better option. For a step up, silver's is a much better option than BC. One step up would be Fortune Auto. For a track setup, the new FactionFab FR-spec V2 are great
I live in Louisiana and want my eg to handle the deer lease trails and roads, anyone have any good recommendations for a coil over or something I should be looking at
Just installed the factionfab coilovers on my wrx, was wondering if u ever experienced a clunking noise when fully turning the wheel ? Maybe it’s just the coils settling ?
That sounds like either the spring moving around because the preload isn't set correctly, or it could be the steering rack itself moving. I would double check that all of your locking rings are tight and also redo your preload. There are plenty of videos on UA-cam explaining how to do that!
I am really considering the faction fab coilover’s because I am on a budget do you know if they have anything that can adjust camber if so which faction fab you recommend I have a 2020 wrx premium and how did they perform in the snow!?

The stock STi suspension leaves much to be desired. Don’t get me wrong, it does the job, but the ride is bouncy and you can get thrown around in the seat if you’re really pushing the limit. God forbid you hit a deep pothole. I just slapped on some HKS Hipermax S coilovers and it’s night and day difference. The car is glued to the road, and much more composed.

Sti suspension is very stiff and rough over bumps. I hate the suspension on my car. Hence the reason I'm watching reviews on coilovers.
