my son and I did the LS1 t56 thing to his 318is while living in Perth western australia Good thing it was done 10 yr ago as both the motor and box have nearly tripled Almost the same as yours except everything was made in house as far as brackets and mounts go. Medium case slippery diff shortened drive shaft mated to t56 yoke after market fuel pump filter regulator mounted where the bmw mounts theirs. moved the abs to left chassis rail washer bottle to the left and custom expansion tank on right suspension tower chev computer same place as bmw dual climate control in the scuttle panel All hoses are GM off the shelf just cut to length except the bottom radiator hose which is late model FJ Landcruiser spall fan and mishimoto radiator Full custom slip jointed stainless exhaust Made 312kw atw beautifully well balanced car He left home shortly after starting it so I finished it and wife and I drove it Perth to Melbourne across the Nullarbor . google that drive, He still has it but living in Melbourne now and were back in NZ

Had straight pipes on my hellcat....installed Borla universal straight thru 3”. Kooks are pretty nice deeper tone still loud but easier on long drives. Nice car never been a BMW fan but that’s a great looking car gotta admit it , A/C will be a must IMO prob getting old.
Awesome build, looks and sounds great. It's good for a track car but for an everyday street car you'll get bored of it quickly. I have a stage 2 bottom mount turbo kit on my s52 and it's the most fun car to drive. You simply can't beat the smile you get on your face from the torque.

I had a fbody t56 with 3.08 rear gear and 28" tires, never could use 6th unless you were running 90+ . switched to 4.56 turned 1700 rpm at 60mph in 6th.
Great video! your 1st drive experience is just like mine "holley term x 6.0 swap in grand national" I didn't expect great drivability not tuned or the progressive power the higher the rpm the ls gives. With the turbo 6 it had monster low end torque but flat lined the higher the rpm. PS I did build my exhaust on the floor, on my own, harbor freight welder, little experience, and it has stayed on so far LOL. Man I hope i'm not going to be eating my words
I will say, after getting the car tuned it feels way better. The car was super rich in the mid range with just the Holley tune, but it did run just fine for hundreds of miles.

The 3;15 is your low range torque issue, 3.73 would help both low and 6 speed highway gear. You can get real gas mileage on the highway, I got near 30 regularly in my gto, those came with 3.46

5 years deep in an extremely similar build! Sick to see a running version haha. I'm so pumped...just retrofitted a mustang gt350 exhaust with the cutouts! Picked one up off an exhaust shop for 250 cad 😅
@@matt13ross just cut the spare tire panel out and weld in your own flat panel. lots of room for activities! The system has the perfect x pipe and I only had to make 2 cuts and 2 welds to make it narrow enough. Get your local exhaust shop to bend up the pipes to your headers and boom! 3500 dollar exhaust system for a 1/7th the price. I wanted a dual exit from the start so the spare tire well or whatnot came out long ago. Retrofit is definitely a keyword here haha 😄

My engine builder put a different cam in it, I don't remember the specs. It's a Comp cam though. Exhaust is 2.5" dual straight pipes with a x pipe. LS swap is the way to go!

Congratulations on building a great e36! I was curious as to the instrument cluster I saw you added rings but is that a different face as well? I am currently building an LS3 CARB legal e36 M3. Still deciding on exhaust so I will be watching to see what you do and the wheel combo. Not a lot of room under there even with rolled fenders
I changed out the cluster years ago, I forget what I actually put in there. But yes some chrome rings with a different face. Yea, big wheels and tires on an E36 is very difficult to do.

It was built by a friend and engine builder of mine. I don't have exact specs off the top of my head. Diamond pistons with higher CR, ported heads, Comp cam, Weiand intake manifold, new bearings, etc.

Awesome! I suggest getting a brand new T56, I had terrible experience with a used T56.

If you like manual, go with a T56 or T56 magnum. Don't swap in an auto if you won't be happy with it later.

1-3 seem like a good combo for the 3.15 though. I'm considering a more aggressive rear end, but we'll see.

Why don't you consider changing your rear end gears? Especially if you don't think you'll go into 6th very often.

Not sure, someone may make an adapter kit for a BMW transmission. Do a search for BMW transmission to LS engine adapter plates.
I did stumble across an ls to bimmer adapter plate. I can't remember the site but they exist. It was for 1100 for the whole kit

You could swap in any engine you want with enough time and money.

Nope! Thankfully it really was a perfect replacement. Same TOB, clutch, bell housing, shifter, mount, and driveshaft.

I had a standard T56, which is the same size as a magnum F. The regular magnum is longer.
