Thank you so much for posting these videos. My father bought one to save gas as he has an Econoline that is very expensive on gas. Since hes had the 2001 PT cruiser, manual, hes had a hard time finding parts that are affordable and so on. He's had so many questions and there are not alot of places one can go. Mechanics try to rip people off and its not great (obviously not all) So thank you for this. Very much.
I did mine. 1st manual transmission fluid change. I was afraid at first that I would mess up something. But no. It was so easy. I didn't use ATF fluid. I used Valvoline synchromesh manual transmission fluid. It's great fluid. Transmission performance is better than before. I used the same transfer pump.
I was frustrated by how difficult it was to find out how much fluid to put in. The auto stores couldn't determine how much even with my VIN number, all the UA-cam videos had different amounts to add, not even an internet search could give me one option. You know how I found out, there was a decal on the transmission itself that told me how much to add (90oz or 2.8L). But to be honest, once I added the exact amount, it was the exact amount that it will start overflowing out of the fill hole. So I don't even think you need to know exactly how much... Just fill it till it starts pouring out the fill hole. I changed it at 68k miles. It looked pretty bad.
Always remove the fill ole first Incase you can't get it out you don't wanna drop the fluid and find you can't fill it .. also if you can't get the fill bolt out you can remove a CV shaft and fill it through there ....
Thank you.. I’ve asked my mechanic to check my transmission fluid for over a year and he never did.. I can see why now. I guess I have to do it myself lol
Not mentioned in the video is that the fill plug is on the opposite side from the drain plug, near the driver's (left) side CV axle. My 2005 had the rubber plug and it was covered in grease so took a while to locate.
Somebody already asked, and didn't get a reply, so I'll ask too. What is the size/type of socket used to remove the plug. Is it an Allen head, Torx, or what?? Thanks. I have a 2002 with the manual. Weird car, but very practical.
hey good job. i went with a friend who's looking a getting an 06 with 5 speed (78,000 miles) $300. the car has sat for 2 years. we got it started but the clutch slips BAD. any idea why and could this be a fix???
A decent clutch kit is only 180 at AutoZone and it comes with the slave cylinder... Problem is they used 2 styles the 06 I believe doesn't have an external bleed port and 01 to early 05 do ... You can change out the ends by removing the pins and make the 06 have a bleed port which will make your life a lot easier
No, you would assume that a simple dipstick would do it. Bad design for sure. You have to get underneath and check through the fill hole. Unless you can reach from the top. I just don’t remember if there is enough space.
Best produced concise video for the home do-it-yourselfer....EVER!
Thank you!

Most welcome 😊
Dude can't see where fill screw is at
It’s tight but it’s there. Look at 45 second mark on the video.
How many miles on the car did you have when you decided to change the transmission fluid?

5/16 Hex bit
@@saiyan_mig8918 Thanks!!
I need to do a better job at keeping track of my comments. Thank you @zimmelbot
Worked also for my 1g manual Dodge Neon

Wow, 300.00 is a great deal. It might be the clutch slave. The problem is that it’s internal. Still a great deal.

That said automatic trans fluid does it matter
so we use atf 4 ?
Is there another way to check the correct level?
No, you would assume that a simple dipstick would do it. Bad design for sure. You have to get underneath and check through the fill hole. Unless you can reach from the top. I just don’t remember if there is enough space.
How do I check level on manuel trans
You have to remove the plug for the full side. Oil can be up to the plug level. Car must be level.
What is the captivity?
Capacity was about 2 1/2 quarts
Great video, do you remember the tools you use to remove the drain plug by any chance?
Sorry I don’t but it’s like a 10 mm
It's an odd size on the pt cruiser like a 9 the 10 ont fit and an 8 is sloppy
How much oil did you put?
About 2 1/2 quarts. 👍
Is this automatic transmission oil?
Yes, that’s what it shows in the manual
@@falconedsel if I fill in TITAN ATF 4400, is it a good oil? but this is for automatic transmission
@@falconedsel Thank you for your reply
@@falconedsel did you fill in the oil that is shown in the STP ATF + 4 video, and everything is fine?
The manual states at the top you can use Mopar manual transaxle ms 9417 or equivalent
