This guys is just crap, sorry. She deserved so much higher level of interviewer… the questions, gosh… The way he looks at his notes while she’s talking. 😒
She might have just thought : “oh well, let’s do this and go back home.”
Anyway, very happy to see her and mesure her amazing and powerful prestance.

He kept talking over her, too; interrupting her & not letting her finish.

"...sending my mind off some place it hasn't been before..." - the exact reason I picked up Kindred. What an author.

He can’t stand letting a woman hold the power for 30 minutes. Now his sexual harassment allegations make total sense…

I was hospitalized for 37 days and, when I had enough energy, I went to thw patiwnt library. Ki dred was the only book (1) with a black person on the cover and(2) in large print. I grabbed it and thus commenced a love affair!

I am currently reading "Kindred" by Octavia Butler for my A.A. Studies class. So far, I am thoroughly impressed by how her mind works in writing novels. I am looking forward to reading the rest of her books as well. 💯

Octavia Butler is one of the most beautiful souls to ever create art. I’m so glad I found my way to her books. The way she writes makes falling into a story so easy and cathartic. I’m reading through “Parable of the Sower” now, my first time. I know she passed a few years ago 😔 so I came here to hear her voice. I miss Octavia Butler’s presence in this world. I think she’s one of the best American writers of our generation.

Such a treasure to hear her words and perspective!! But Charlie Rose is the WORST! Interrupting her constantly. Flipping through his notes. Looks like he can't wait to get on to the next guest. Her intellect is so vastly superior to his. Geesh.

watching her interviews makes me think of how part of being a successful writer, particularly a Black woman writer at that time (and now) has to do with meeting incompetence and thinly veiled hostility with cleverness and grace. i wish there were more recorded interviews of her speaking with actually good interviewers who were excited about her work and connected with it but her navigation of what was is so skillful!

I really like Octavia Butler,She stimulates me !
I met her once in a book store , back in the nineties, and she regarded me as a mother who figure who is thinking : what a sweet child "...
She reminded me of my Aunties , and the church ladies who regarded me as an adorable small child 😂

["Parable of the Sower", by Octavia Butler, MAKE the movie! ] we need to make "Parable of the Sower" into a movie! why is it not ALREADY a movie?! this lady saw the future some 30+ years ago... well, that future is now, or almost now, like tomorrow, maybe a couple of years from now, but it's coming, as inevitable as an atmospheric river, blizzards in LA, massive widespread poverty, food riots, the scarcity of potable water, raging fires, guns, the whole kit'n'caboodle... it's happening right now, just getting rolling! you can hear the vast multitudes around the world, migrating, trying to live, be alive, have a life, families, friends, enemies, they are all moving, look at the borders... their porosity is only going to increase... can't stop it, this tsunami cannot be stopped... this lady saw the future, with the clarity of a vision, if we don't make this book into a movie right now, then no book should have ever been made into one
