  • Farmer’s Markets are a must visit when in Serbia. You will find one in almost every suburb and town and the best part is, they’re open every day from around 7am - 2pm. The food is super fresh, inexpensive and you can find a huge variety of items from produce, cheeses, deli meats, butcher shops, bakeries and even clothes and home items.
If you’re a budget traveller, or want to immerse yourself in the Serbian culture, this highly recommend a visit.

Thank you. I love the Serbian people and the country. I had a wonderful experience and hope to be back again. The best thing about Serbs is their sense of humour and hospitality.

I have to tell you that people complain last decade that nothing smells as it use to smell, for example tomato, when I was a kid it smells like tomato, not anymore, so imagine how it was before chemicals they spread to everything.

Yes, sadly it seems to be like this in most places but I have to tell you, it’s still better in Serbia than North America. I lived in Canada for 11 years and nothing tastes or smells how it should, not even flowers. If we wanted something that was organic and tasty, we had to pay so much for it. At least in Serbia I smell flowers and trees everywhere I go and when I ate vegetables and fruits which are in season, they tasted really nice (especially in Čačak). I am lucky that in Egypt the fruits and vegetables are still really wonderful, if we buy them at local markets.

@@gamal-salemsame works for Serbia, you really want to buy produce that people grew themselves. Like from old ladies selling eggs or tomatoes....
As for pork, wherever you see someone selling bacon, smoked ham etc, ask for beef, lamb, chicken, many if not most will have it. I've ate some great smoked chicken, and smoked beef pršuto is a specialty.

Yes, we really had a great food experience in Serbia. Every place we went had something for us to eat. My parents-in-law and wife’s family bought us smoked beef, sausages and salami as well as chicken and veal hotdogs. I always prefer shopping for food from people who grow and make things by hand as I would much rather support a farmer than a big store.

"Izvolite" is used frequently as a formal way of saying "here you go", "come in/be seated" and a "how may I be of service" question. Both a service offering and a service delivery line, basically.

Yes my wife explained it to me a bit more off camera. I heard the word often, especially in the market. Everyone was saying it. Thanks a lot for the info! Serbian is a wonderful language.

Hey, nice information. Can you tell the exact place where this market is. Make some more videos , where can we get halal meat.

    • @gamal-salem

Thanks so much. I’m not in Serbia at the moment but I can try to make a video about this next year. If you Google Halal meat in Belgrade, you will see some places pop up :)
This market is in Vidikovac. It’s called Vidikovačka Green Market or Pijaca Vidikovac (you can search either in Google for the exact location).
      Hope this helps.

Yes, food is still better than in North America but far from where it was just 5 years ago! Farmers in Serbia are getting out of business rapidly.
Prices of food and everything skyrocketed in last two years. Serbia has now some of the most expensive groceries in Europe, highest pollution and cancer rates in the world. Sad.

Sadly I think most of the world is the same. My parents-in-laws moved back to Serbia 2 years ago and they said the same thing…that in the last 2 years prices have gone up by a lot. The world is not the same as it was.
