The idea of a lottery to buy a daily running shoe seems far-fetched. It's a bit like "we're too cool to just sell this, you have to hunt it down." It put me off this shoe, especially when the competition is so great
Doing what Nike/Jordan does to their shoes a lot of the time. I play basketball as well as run and annoys me they limit Nike Kobe basketball shoes . I want the Evo SL, i guess eventually in the next year 🤷🏻♂️
It almost looks a bit like the old atreyu base model… super simplistic but super effective… I agree the micro draws for this shoe are beyond stupid… I did drop a comment on adidas instagram post saying this, they didn’t respond 😂 great review as always Ben
EVO 1 and Evo SL don't share the same foam, although they share the same name. EVO SL use last generation lightstrike pro, same as the foam in the Pro 3, but EVO 1 has the new generation of Adidas lightstrike pro foam, different formula and different properties.
0:15 They don't have the same foam. They are called the same (Lighstrike Pro) but they are not the same. The Evo SL has the same foam as the Adios Pro 3, which is different than the foam of the Adios Pro 4, which is different than the Pro Evo.
I’ve actually just bought a discounted pair of Novablast 3s, as I found them excellent when I got the first pair early 2023. Boston 12s are very good, but feel my calves would explode if I used them for any great distance. Keep up the content 👍
Got it in black for 130 euro including shipping. Amazing value! Very fun shoe indeed. Agree that the laces and tongue are less than ideal, but still better than Adios Pro 3… I expect the black version to be better suited for winter runs
Tried my friend's Evo SL (we have the same foot size) and I prefer the Boston for sure!! Also Ben I took your advice and pulled the trigger on some Gel Nimbus 26 TR's. Changed the game for me as a relaxed recovery shoe... Did 2 10 milers this week in them and they save my legs so we'll for the harder sessions!! Hope you and Sarah have a lovely Xmas and New year 😀
Im glad many reviews have said that this shoe is good but not great. That way they go on sale earlier I can get them cheap. Me and lightsrike pro are best friends.
650k into my boston 12, the Continental rubber still holding so well in Irish weather! A lot better than my Saucony or Asics, so seeing Adidas going lighter on the rubber is already a no for me. Also full white shoe is not considering our UKI weather at all 😂
It's pretty much a better Rebel v3 for me. The tongue is kinda annoying but everything else works for me. I think I'll still grab my superblasts for most long runs. I'll wear the EVO SL for 5Ks / easy run club days. I was able to buy it in Japan for 18K Yen. And it was available at all the adidas stores.
im interested with the Evo SL, but not going to F5 just to try luck. I've settled for SL2 on discount and SL2 has been amazing for me. very versatile. From easy runs, to speedy, and even trails. Its pretty much have taken over my NB3TR in my rotation because it felt more nimble and lighter I'll just wait for EvoSL fancy colorway next year
I was excited about this shoe, shame I can’t actually buy it - I think it’d be awesome if as runners we could all agree not to buy this shoe, regardless of how good it is, because the release strategy is just so toxic
Did my first run in mine today and I loved them! Felt great at different paces and the black colourway with white stripes looks banging 👌Reckon I'll get 300 miles in them before I know it
It’s not on general sale. Limited drop from retailers and a stupid lottery to buy them on adidas I would like theses shoes as it’s pretty much what iv been wanting for ages a shoe with super foam big stack and no plate The fact I can’t actually buy it because it’s been hyped up so much and limited released really really annoyes me If any of the other shoe brands release a shoe that’s similar il be buying that instead (Nikes peg plus apparently doesn’t have proper zoom x )
I had one, definitely not a shoe you wanna go for a slow runs, wore it for me slower runs and it just makes me wanna go faster, which was really messing with my rhythm. But for tempo runs, this is great.
I'm going to stick with the Saucony Endorphin Speed 4 and Mizuno Wave Riders. The Boston 12s were great, but they wore out quickly. I've never tried EVOs.
Sounds fun but the short tongue and the potential heel slip (without the possibility of using a runner's knot) keep me from considering it for my rotation. Right now I have a pair of Asics NB4 for my daily runs and some SB2 for the long runs. I'm still looking for a speed shoe for my fast intervalls and the Evo SL could have taken that place. Guess I'll have a look at the Nike Zoom Fly 6 instead or maybe look for a plated race shoe and use that one for the fastest workouts.
@@EricS-uf9mvstiffer due to the rods AND lower stack? Isn't that too hard/stiff/bottiming for a heavier runner like me? In the SL2 i am standing on the ground - completely uselsss shoe for me. As a faser shoe I have the Mach 6 and Noosa Tri 14-16 :)
@@philipppuchner1115 "Lower" stack relative. But 33mm/27mm isn't exactly low. Your SL2's are mostly EVA w/ a tiny amt of LightStrike Pro sandwiched in between. The Takumi's are 100% LightStrike Pro so would be more energetic than the value oriented SL2's. But i suppose depending on your weight, you might want/need as much stack as possible... though I doubt the Evo SL's +5mm stack makes a huge cushioning difference unless Adidas has DRAMATICALLY modified the LSP formulation used in the Evo SL vs. the Takumi Sen - though admittedly that's a possibility. LightStrike Pro is just a marketing name... I'm sure the actual formulations are somewhat fluid from shoe to shoe. Adidas likely constantly adjusts the polymer & elastomer ratios to juggle durability, energy return, density/mass, & production costs. Also, you probably want a more "connected" shoe for all-out workouts anyways. IMO comfort is kinda a secondary when talking about a PURE workout/raceday shoe cause u aren't spending 2-3hrs x5 days a week in 'em.
My current rotation while I build my aerobic base is the NB4, Peg plus, and ES3. The ES3 is my all time favorite shoe while the peg plus is my shoe of the year, shame that Nike priced it where they did. If I had to pick one shoe to do it all, it would be the NB4. I did hit on the Evo SL and all those shoes are in danger😂. In all seriousness, I do have a thing for ls pro and the 6.5 drop combo.
A new Adidas store just popped up in my area here in the Philippines and it has these shoes like nothing, like there's no hype whatsoever. They've got lots of sizes available to try out. Had to size down half a size to get the same fit I would get from a Boston 12.
It's in the SM Mall of Asia. 100% agree with Ben Parkes here that the Evo SL doesn't hug your foot well as you would want an up tempo shoe. Typical crappy Adidas upper. The midsole though is such a dream. Overall a happy purchase here.
In conclusion, if you have the Boston 12 (or something similar), get the SL2. If you have the SL2, get the Boston 12. If you have neither, get them or buy another brand, instead of entering a silly lottery that's only there to artificially reduce supply and increase demand. I bet you'll be able to buy the Evo SL for under 100€ by summer next year.
I got lucky and won a draw. It’s a nice shoe but not the end all. Hang in there people. It will come around. This is always a tough time of year between releases waiting for a new pair to become available. I’m just a lucky SOB on this one.
I wonder how does this compared to Novablast 5? because of exchange rate this shoes sell at a much more premium price than Nov 5 albeit with the superfoam vs FFBlast Max which is Asics 2nd tier foam from a mediocre sub 2 hours and 4.5 hours marathon runner perspective
I have the Pro 3 & 4. Takumi Sen 10. Boston 12. Can't justify buying a shoe that's not as good as the Pros, as nimble as the Takumi or as durable as the Boston. High cool factor but little practicality. Far more American than German. That's gonna be a "Nein, danke" from me 🫤

I started same as you beginning of the year, started with ASICS Nimbus 25 and six months added the Superblast 2, if I was starting again, I’d just go straight for the Superblast, it’s a great around shoe for pretty much any pace and distance.
Thank you for the review. i don't really understand the lottery to win the chance to buy a daily trainer shoes, there are so many better options out there, i think adidas is really upsetting lots of runner with this hype bs. i just decided not to join the madness, adidas lost me with the evo 1.
I couldn't give this a point for versatility. A training shoe should be able to handle unpaved surfaces, so if it doesn't have some kind of tread pattern, that's a knock against its versatility. I buy most of my shoes when they're a year old on discount, so the limited release batches don't bother me as such. What is a problem is how closely this shoe resembles the Pro Evo 1 in name, appearance and manner of release. It's veering on bait and switch tactics.
We’re to assume others may not be as impartial - Ben buys his own products and does not partner with brands or retailers, which therefore will not make him as bias as others who receive gifted products 👍

Takumi Sen 10 for workouts & races up to 10mi. Basically a slightly lower stack Evo SL w/ the carbon rods from the AP3.
