I see your point here!Never knew people started calling him the ghost host.Thank you for telling us about that I'm a fan of your channel and disneyland. So thank you for being awesome!;)
I always thought the master gracey was the story that they created for the WDW haunted mansion and that is what the movie is based on.I believe the pirate story is the disneyland version because of its ties to New Orleans and pirating in the Gulf of Mexico. DL Paris is based on a miner who struck gold in big thunder mountain.
And this, is why Disney does it up awesomely. The haunted mansion has been my favorite attraction since as long as I can remember, and I've always loved the back stories they come up with for every attraction. They keep us wondering constantly! Anyways, I love the haunted mansion movie!! Although it's not entirely accurate with the ride, the references are on point lol. And the music is fricken awesome. Keep it up fresh baked, I'm loving these videos!
Maybe the house was around before Master Gracey's family moved in. Maybe it was originally built by and occupied by the pirate. So, both stories can exist. For example, in Key West , Fl there is a famous house, the Earnest Hemmingway house. That is what it known as. But, the builder and original owner was a sailor named Asa Tift. So Both stories can coexist.
+David Wells Hell, wasn't Constance Hatchaway the owner of the Mansion at some point? My guess is the mansion has been passed down through several different families and owners.
This has actually been common Haunted Mansion knowledge for awhile lol most Mansion fans know that Gracey himself is not actually the Ghost Host, given the evidence scoured throughout the Mansion. Gracey was never intended to be the Master of the mansion in the first place. The term "master" was used to refer to a young man, so the Gracey buried in the front yard was only referred to as master because he died so young. However, of course, thanks to the Haunted Mansion movie, guest misunderstanding, and Disney fully going along with this, Master Gracey has pretty much become a canon thing.
I never understood the whim Master Gracey thing, like the tombstone is just a nod to Yale. I've never heard of a back story involving Grandpa Marc or Brother Claude, but I get why people go with the whole Master Gracey story, cause of the movie. I like the Captain Gore story better
The Captain Gore story was never canon though is the thing. Imagineers who designed the ride themselves said it was a scrapped story element, and that the story of the mansion is that it's just simply a retirement home for ghosts.
Upon my first trip to the haunted mansion I wore a scarf, and when the point came that he said 'there's always my way' i felt something tug on my scarf, so I panicked and ducked down onto the floor and pulled of my scarf, nearly giving my parents a heart attack. It scared me so bad as I was 9 at the time and we went on it again the next time I came, this time I didn't wear a scarf, I was 13 and When I saw the hanging manikin I legitimately screamed because I thought that that ghost host had tried to kill me or that one of the supposed dead people's ashes still lingered and tried to hang me on the ride. I told a worker there when she asked me if I was okay and explained the whole story. She, then, told me about the special vacuum they use to clean up ashes, and that it's a maniquin.
LOL... in the clip description, you called him "Mater Gracey"... LOL... which conjures up some hilarious Cars-fusion imagery. I know that was just a typo but it packed quite a punch. LOL.
+Robert J. Holtz Oh, don't put it past Disney; They are the masters of crossover marketing, haha! After all....there IS the story of Mater And The Ghost Light! ;-)
The movie Master Gracey was a tribute nod to Yale Gracey , who helped built the mansion and haunted Mansion in Disney world it was tributes to ravens croft
Here's a thought...what if the ghost host was a much more ancient, sinister being who planned for the house to be built with the intent of driving it's inhabitants mad and trapping their souls within the walls of the mansion? Wouldn't that account for all the disconnected stories we see? And account for the ghost host kind of dragging us into it?
I hadn't heard that Master Gracey as the ghost host. But I agree with you. Where did you do that research because if there is such a position as Disney Historian I SO want that as my career!
What do you think of the 'Haunted Mansion' movie that's going to be made by Guillermo deal Toro? (Rumors I'm not sure if it's really going to be done but I've heard it's in the works)
+FreshBakedDisney seems reasonable. But what do you think about Guillermo del Toro's films so far? If this were to happen would you agree that He's the one of the best that could make 'The Haunted Mansion' a great film adaptation? Just curious.
I believe that the hatbox ghost married the bride when they were both human, she then later cut off his head and hid it in the hat box and that is why he is like that
Thoughts on the Disney Kingdom's comic series? I'd love you to do a new video after the series wraps up giving your thoughts on it's take on the Haunted Mansion.
I believe that the mansion has had many people living in the mansion until it became a retirement home for ghost starting with The sea captain perhaps Gore and then ending with Constance.
I always assumed that the ghost host was a butler, and that he had killed the hanging guy to make it look like suicide. As in "his way" was that he'll kill you. I never minded the movie they made, I just found it spooky that the kids in the movie were the same age as my brother and I (when it was released), and that we had the same names (Megan and Michael).
To me, this just seems like the result of marketing, mostly due to the movies, like Jack Sparrow, in POTC. The same can be said of Tarzan's Treehouse (aka Swiss Family Robinson's Treehouse).
I'd love to know what you guys at Fresh Baked think of the version of the Haunted mansion rides that have been created for the Asian market in Hong Kong and soon to be Shanghai, especially considering the new Shanghai park is going to be the largest Disney park created and how different it is from the original park in Anaheim.
I like the Captain Gore story much better anyways and would have made a great Disney film. Maybe some day they will turn the story around and make a film true to the history of the Mansion. Who would we want to play Captain Gore?
I always thought the Ghost Host was a Butler of some sorts, and when he says, "there's always my way", he could either be saying that he hung himself or that he is offering to hang people so that they can became ghosts?
There's actually an original recording by Paul Frees as the Ghost Host in which he says "I am your ghost host, the lord and master of this haunted mansion" (it's on UA-cam, search "unused haunted mansion spiel"). Can you make a new video and talk about it? I LOVE Fresh Baked haunted mansion talk!
You should do a video on the theory that states that the stretching portrait ballerina girl is named Daisy de la Cruz, is Master Gracey's wife, and is a witch that turned men into alligators.
What about the ageing portrait at the entrance of the mansion. Surely a portrait must be that of the owner/master of the house. When the picture is young, he doesn't look like a pirate.
Disney's official stance is that Gracey isn't the Ghost Host, but he was once the master of the house, and he is in fact the man in the portrait who becomes a skeleton. Saying the Ghost Host is Gracey started with WDW cast members, who insist on welcoming you with "Master Gracey will see you now!" As for who the Ghost Host is, apparently he was once the head butler, Beauregarde, who is indeed the man who hung himself in the rafters, and is simply one of the 999 Happy Haunts, selected by the others as a host because the role suited him.
Just want to throw out there Master Gracey has been confirmed by Disney that he is the Ghost Host at Walt Disney World. However that is not true at Disneyland or Tokyo Disneyland all the movie stuff was based on the Disney World attraction and this story is even further as you are going into the mansion because Master Gracey has died.
If you look up an unused introduction for the haunted mansion the ghost host says he is the master of the manor. The only person in the story line that is a master is master gracey.
+Anthony Fins I've always kinda found that hard to swallow--that voice comes out of that withered old wicked witch-looking guy? Then again, the big fat scary executioner has a high-pitched elegant voice, so it wouldn't be the only time the ride featured characters with the total opposite voice than we expected.
I am an expert on the Haunted Mansion and when Master Gracey had the party Constance the Bride In The Attic killed the groom because they were having a wedding party there and then Master Gracey fell in love and basically the story of the movie happened Captain Gore is hinted only a little bit during the ride but is not really part of the story I think or I believe that he was the previous owner of the mansion so does that explain it for you David?
Dave, you're quite right that the Ghost Host is NOT Master Gracey. Furthermore, your other two theories are BOTH correct. The Ghost Host IS "Beauregard the Butler." THAT is the character assigned to Paul Frees. The fact is, there were several iterations of the story which started NOT with X Atencio but with his predecessor on the project, Imagineer Ken Anderson, who worked on the project until 1964. Ken submitted four different drafts of the story. The first involved the Legend of Captain Gore, the second involved the Bloodmere Manor, the third involved a ghostly wedding, and the fourth was based on the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. When X took over, he wanted to shift the story a bit to fit the real story of pirate Jean Lafitte whose mysterious disappearance at the end of his fame lent itself well to fantastic stories. But regardless of whose mansion it was, the host WAS always Beauregard, also known as "The Hatchet Man" whose full-length portrait can be seen in the Corridor of Doors. Everything was fine for many years until Michael Eisner (yes, THAT genius) when starting work on EuroDisney (not Disneyland Paris) pushed for a new narrative for all Haunted Mansions including the location destined for EuroDisney. Ironically, the imagineers working in France, opted to make their own backstory even renaming the attraction Phantom Manor so as to completely disassociate it with Disneyland or Disney World's Haunted Mansion. Even more interestingly, Phantom Manor was based on Ken Anderson's third treatment, the "ghostly wedding." Under Eisner is where the Gracey storyline was forced onto the existing stories and connected to that terrible feature film they made which was intended to tie the attractions to a film property. Only problem with Eisner's idea is that the story at the original Haunted Mansion is WAY better and more scary than Eisner's Eddie Murphy film. I know 90% of my comments always come down hard on Eisner for screwing things up but there are so many examples upon examples of him doing exactly that and this is just one among many. The reason there is any confusion at all on this is because Eisner muddled the storyline and tried to force-feed us the Gracey narrative. To me, it is like Jar Jar Binks and Lucas' STAR WARS prequels or better yet, like Lucas' 1997 special editions of STAR WARS where he went back to subtly change important story elements just because. Well, as far as I'm concerned, Han Solo shot first and that house is NOT Gracey Manor. The Ghost Host is NOT the master of the mansion -- it is his hatchet man and butler, Beauregard.
"My way" could imply the ghost host is the one who did or influenced the actual hanging of another person. I suspect it's not the case but just playing devil's advocate.
+R.D. Dragon OMG...is that popping up here, too?! It was nowhere NEAR Anaheim; It was a missile test launched from a submarine off the coast of Point Mugu Navy Base in Ventura County! (I live in Ventura)
R.D. Dragon Yes, the atmospheric conditions made the exhaust appear very unusual, and it was visible from as far north as San Francisco, south into Mexico and east into Arizona, but you said "over Disneyland".
Uh The Haunted Mansion really is called Gracey Manor and Master Gracey is the owner of the mansion but, I don't believe that Master Gracey is the ghost host I never thought that. Anyway that being said I think you're reading too much into things yes the tombstone was dedicated to one of the imagineers Yale Gracey but, if Master Gracey wasn't the owner of the house his portrait wouldn't be in the front before you enter the stretching room I mean it's just common sense it's not rocket science. I honestly think that Ramsley the butler is possibly the ghost host
I see your point here!Never knew people started calling him the ghost host.Thank you for telling us about that I'm a fan of your channel and disneyland. So thank you for being awesome!;)
I completely agree!!! Not sure where it came from....

It's possible if so they should keep it that way for Disney World alone and each Haunted Mansion ride can have a different storyline.
This video makes my heart happy.
It's funny, because I always assumed the Ghost Host was the butler. It was just a hunch I had.
And this, is why Disney does it up awesomely. +Dallin Smith yeah I know, I just like the idea of the Captain Gore story. The retirement home for ghosts is a good storyline too
Ghost host is Vincent Price
+transtremm It's Paul Frees.
+transtremm Vincent Price was the Ghost host of Phantom Manor in Paris while Paul Frees is in Haunted Mansion.
That's not Vincent Price. It's Paul Frees.
your thinking of the one in Paris i love that one to
+Tj Samson Exactly right on both counts: "Vincent Price was the Ghost host of Phantom Manor in Paris while Paul Frees is in Haunted Mansion."
Upon my first trip to the haunted mansion I wore a scarf, and when the point came that he said 'there's always my way' i felt something tug on my scarf, so I panicked and ducked down onto the floor and pulled of my scarf, nearly giving my parents a heart attack. Oh, don't put it past Disney; They are the masters of crossover marketing, haha!
After all....there IS the story of Mater And The Ghost Light! ;-)
I think part of it, is that at WDW there is always a flower on Gracey's grave. That's what I always assumed.
The movie Master Gracey was a tribute nod to Yale Gracey , who helped built the mansion and haunted Mansion in Disney world it was tributes to ravens croft
Here's a thought...what if the ghost host was a much more ancient, sinister being who planned for the house to be built with the intent of driving it's inhabitants mad and trapping their souls within the walls of the mansion? what I got from the movie was that Ramsley was the ghost host.
ikr that what I thought too

I hadn't heard that Master Gracey as the ghost host. But I agree with you. Where did you do that research because if there is such a position as Disney Historian I SO want that as my career!

+FreshBakedDisney seems reasonable. But what do you think about Guillermo del Toro's films so far? If this were to happen would you agree that He's the one of the best that could make 'The Haunted Mansion' a great film adaptation? Just curious.
+Stephanie Lopez Can't be worse than Eddie Murphy's Haunted Mansion
Master gracey is also the first portrait in the haunted mansion
agree
I believe that the hatbox ghost married the bride when they were both human, she then later cut off his head and hid it in the hat box and that is why he is like that

Major-domo is like Higgens in Magnum PI
The house had at least three masters
Thank god!!! Someone else gets it!!!
I always assumed that the ghost host was a butler, and that he had killed the hanging guy to make it look like suicide. As in "his way" was that he'll kill you.

I think The Ghost Host is actually Ramsley. Ramsley is the mean old Butler of Gracey Manor.
But I think you're right about him not being named Gracey
I like to think the ghost host is just a random ghost who decided to come the narrator.
You should do a video on the theory that states that the stretching portrait ballerina girl is named Daisy de la Cruz, is Master Gracey's wife, and is a witch that turned men into alligators.
If you can find a close up of the hanging man, he is wearing the same clothing as the male CMs. I support the majordomo explanation. Go Fresh Baked.
What about the ageing portrait at the entrance of the mansion. Surely a portrait must be that of the owner/master of the house. When the picture is young, he doesn't look like a pirate.

Where did you get the people mover sign
am I the only one who listens to the old stuff? an old demo says he is the lord and MASTER of this mansion...
I always consider Paul Frees as the Ghost host.
I've heard/seen that the ghost host is the same man as the one in the painting of a man with a noose around his neck.
Disney released at shirt with mastee gracy and it says GHOST HOST
Maybe the ghost host is the hatbox ghost and maybe the hatbox ghost is master Gracie
The movie is based in the WDW version not the DL version
I am an expert on the Haunted Mansion and when Master Gracey had the party Constance the Bride In The Attic killed the groom because they were having a wedding party there and then Master Gracey fell in love and basically the story of the movie happened Captain Gore is hinted only a little bit during the ride but is not really part of the story I think or I believe that he was the previous owner of the mansion so does that explain it for you David?
