    I honestly think that Disney should bring back the PeopleMover, just restore the track, add modern technology and safety things to it and you got it. I would like to see Walt's vision of future transportation brought back. And besides , nothing like that should be left there to sit and gather dust, use it. We can always hope for it

    They should turn the track into a garden type thing by planting trees on top of it and creating an urban garden type thing cause that's the future

      I was going to suggest this idea too! Have you heard of the High Line in New York? It's a park built on an old elevated train track. It's super popular! A park/walkway on the People Mover tracks would obviously have to be very small, but maybe it could work?

    • @urmomsmansion
      @urmomsmansion 9 років тому +1

      +Mitchel Baker I love this idea! It is actually quite futuristic suggesting that in the modern world we are finding new ways and places to grow plants! Maybe it could be a walk through? Or maybe a scientific exploration of interesting plants :) There could be plaques describing the name and environment the plant usually inhabits!

    Hey, someone had to say it! Thanks David. The tracks will never be up to newer codes. The only thing that would ever work is starting from scratch. I personally think that Tomorrowland needs a lot of work as is. Great video!

  • @jimrothrock
    @jimrothrock 9 років тому +2

    The PM cars designed for Walt's EPCOT were fully enclosed, so a similar system would solve the "climbing out of the car" problem. The real issue is that Disney doesn't want to spend money on a land-wide upgrade every ten years or so (it's a company, after all), and that's fundamentally incompatible with a land that is supposed to showcase "predictions of constructive things to come." I think the best solution would be to theme Tomorrowland to 1950s futurism: jet packs, flying cars, moving sidewalks, robots making dinner, etc.

(However much i doubt that can happen I wish it could) I was not old enough unfortunately to ever ride the peoplemover. I wish they could bring it back, and maybe not a new attraction, but maybe just a reskin of the attraction?

    As you read this, there are PeopleMovers moving people all over WDW. There is absolutely no reason we can't have it back again some day. Most people agree that when (NOT if) Tomorrowland ultimately gets a revamp, that's when it will make sense to tend to it. I do like your idea of a static car on the track in the interim which is definitely years away. I think they will put their attention on Tomorrowland when they open Star Wars Land. That's when it will be practical to close that whole land and do the work needed to upgrade or replace the track.

    • @TheHaloRed
      @TheHaloRed 9 років тому +3

      +Robert J. Holtz Whats interesting is the Peoplemover at WDW is a completely different ride system - it runs on electromagnetic motors embedded into track which makes a very smooth ride as opposed to Disneyland's Goodyear tire-propelled track. I think the bumpiness of DL's Peoplemover was part of it's charm, though! Also the instrumental elevator music and the lady's narration.

    • @theadamdisney
      @theadamdisney 9 років тому +1

      +TheHaloRed Exactly. The track system at DLR is just too old. It would have to be totally redone. I don't know they have any interest in bringing back the people mover. Wouldn't they have to close down sections at a time of certain areas in order to even remove and or update it?? I think Disneyworld has the people mover because Its bigger, it brings in more people and more $$$. I think with the traffic at DW, they need the people mover there and I don't think its needed at DLR. Now to get on my soap box, Disney World is treated far better in comparison to Disneyland. I mean $$$$ wise. They get a lot more features like meet and greet with blinking/mouth moving characters (mickey mouse etc). DW has had it for years! Disneyland only has blinking Mickey during the parade. Disneyworld has the boo to you parade and Disneyland chose NOT to have the Halloween parade this year. Why is the question. Not enough storage for all the parades or because Disneyland spent their $$$$ on Paint the Night? I am going to the Halloween party and it bugs me a bit that $63 doesn't include the parade, especially since I have not seen it before.
      With Star Wars land happening, I don't know if a revamp of Tomorrowland will be in the budget anytime soon, but time will tell!

    • @Disneyfan1955
      @Disneyfan1955 9 років тому

      +Robert J. Holtz Robert! You hit the nail on the head again!
      What you said is right! The time line is to open Star Wars Land first, then maybe
      a new TL with maybe a new PM like WDW, plus some brand new E ticket ride
      with a PM at the same time, a new PM will not be enough to bring guests to the
      park. I could just see the TV ads come see the all new PM! Us die hard fans would come!, everyone else would say oh!, Ha! Ha!, David from Ca.

    I agree Dave. Because the tracks cannot be reused, how about turning the tracks in tomorrow land central into a type of "hanging garden" with plants sort of dripping down off of them? With this I would move the Astro Orbitor back on top of the station. I think it would look nice and provide a lot of "Tomorrow" atmosphere that is currently lacking.

    There needs to be a movement to Disney. We need them to take down and rebuild the tracts to certain safety guidelines in the same design they were built as in 67'. Build the tracks to new standards and have cars that resemble the originals. #rebuildthePeopleMover

  • @rickmccarthy777
    @rickmccarthy777 9 років тому

    I loved the People Mover! At the recent LA County Fair, they had a car on display. I took some photos of it. I saw some video about Tomorrowland, perhaps you saw it too, basically stating that Walt Disney was trying to show the future of people on the move, exhibiting many forms of transportation, both outward and inward. That gave us the Autopia, as the new Interstate highway system was going to be built, Flight to the Moon and Mission to Mars, Innerspace, the People Mover, the Monorail, etc.
    I don't know how things should evolve, but perhaps updating things, rather than closing them would be good. Maintenance needs to be ongoing. For example, perhaps the Autopia cars could be electric now (even though I like the gasoline engines) or, the monorail could be converted to Maglev. Yes, I know, near cutting edge on the Maglev, but hey, you've got to keep up. Anything can happen to the People Mover tracks. It only takes Disney to make a decision about what to do/build. I personally don't mind if they tear out the old stuff. Yes, I'm nostalgic too, but space is limited, and we must move on/upgrade. I would be perfectly happy with a new People Mover concept, and routed wherever Disney thought would be functional and preserve the magic. Industry is leaving Disney in the dust.

    it is to bad that it would never be anything again. disneyland is so strapped for space and that ride takes very little space since it is above other things. i know the people mover at disney world is very different in many ways then the one that was at disney land but it is one of my favorite rides at the magic kingdom.

    They could rebuild the tracks, but that would require closing Buzz, Space Mountain, Star Tours, Autopia, Submarines...

  • @markraymond3886

    I can't find the article, since the original site is gone, but it was a write up of the tracks structural integrity. It's not going to fall down but it can't handle another refurb. One suggestion in the article was to cut it down to the bases and build on top of the old base structures. Basically, a new PM on the base structure of the old. That would require a major shut down of TL. DO IT DISNEY.

    To be honest I don't really want them to change the track. Even if they had the time, money, want to do so, if they are not going to bring the people mover back then I am with David. I don't want anything new in there. Just put up some carts and show us what it used to be like. That's nostalgia. I don't think Tomorrow land would look right with out the People mover track running down the middle of it.

  • @douglashall6326
    @douglashall6326 8 років тому

    There were several accidents during Peoplemover's history where people were walking on the tracks. Peoplemover was an excellent idea back in 1967, but technology moved on. We do need to see another innovative transportation concept in Tomorrowland. I don't see Disney going through the expense of removing the track, but it is sad to see it in the shape it is in. It's like a piece of my childhood being ripped away when I see the condition they are in when viewed from the Monorail.

    What if they made the People Mover tracks into a walkway, an express way if you will, to get you from the area before Star Tours straight to the Space Mountain area? It would help relieve a lot of the congestion along the area near Star Tours, Blasters, and the Star Tours Merch Store.

    I would love to see them do SOMETHING with the people mover track. It just looks so sad and strange up there all alone. I'd prefer to see them either restore it to the people mover or rocket rods. But if they will not or can not do that, use the track for decoration of some sort (like a garden), or I always imagined they would have Star Wars characters roaming around up there (like hook an R2 to the track and have him wander back and forth). But that doesn't seem likely with the new land coming. But to be honest, if they're not going to do anything with it, I think I'd rather see it gone.

    I think its almost time for Disney to remodel most of Tomorrowland. Obviously keep Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear, the Astro Orbiters, and Star Tours. But the rest could pretty much be changed out and redone. The remodel could have nods to the old Tomorrowland, such as the People Mover and the Starcade so it still has some nostalgia to it. Then you could have your Tron ride.

    Man, i can't imagine those peoplemover tracks being gone all of a sudden. If Disney were to just demolish them, it'd call for a huge refurb of Tomorrowland itself. I find it incredibly sad though that there's really not a future for any ride to use them in the state they're in. I would have loved to been in a time where I could ride above Tomorrowland and through Space Mountain and all the other attractions the track runs through. I freaking love your idea though; they should put some monuments of the past onto the track. It'd be a bittersweet reminder of the history of Tomorrowland.

    I'm ok with the Peoplemover being gone. I don't hate it, in fact I have fond memories of it. But what the Peoplemover and Circle Vision offered is something DL should offer again. A chance to rest. Circle Vision was the best attraction no one went to. Because you had those padded benches in a semi-dark space. A great place to take a power nap or just decompress from all the sights and sounds. The Peoplemover was also great for that. A ride that gave you 20 minutes to relax without having to stand in line.even get a glimpse of the waits at other rides. I don't weep for the end of the Peoplemover, but some rest areas would be greatly appreciated.

It's really sad, but it's a huge reason why nothing will ever be put there again without a massive overhaul.

    I'm sorry I know this is going to ruffle some feathers but Tomorrow Land as a whole needs an up date. For an area of the park that is supposed to exhibit ideas and technology that would inspire people to build a bigger and better future, it is certainly showing its age. Don't get me wrong I love the history of it, so perhaps we should evolve the track into something new. As you said it would be too difficult to bring it up to code, instead possibly like a canopy the main thing it is used for now is shade so increase that and use materials like synthetic leaves.

  • @lukethegreat29
    @lukethegreat29 9 років тому

    Agreed. I feel that tomorrow land has defiantly fallen behind the rest of the park. Neglected. It isn't futuristic. It's old and outdated. Tomorrow land needs a complete makeover. It needs a centralized theme. Steampunk, 50's era futuristic, or Space launch theme. Trying to constantly keep tomorrow land up to date with our idea of the future is pointless. They need a centralized vision of the future. Right now it's a patchwork of different ideas and has always seemed to be the blemish on the face of Disneyland.

  • @Jaisonawsome

    I think that whole argument that disney made, where it was unstable to support a ride, I believe that disney made that up just so they don't get as many people yelling in their ear "put back the peoplemover!" I don't think if the structures were unstable that they would even still be here, and be allowed to be over our heads while we walk, and, I'm not going to go into to much detail about this but dude they could totally put a ride that's like the peoplemover but more realistic in that spinning tires wouldn't propel the ride. Also david the only spot where the peoplemover track would need an extra handrailing in case of an evacuation would be the flat straight part over the main entrance to tomorrowland, the rest of the track has a rail, all the way around it, but let's say you are correct, david and the peoplemover tracks can be nothing other than a concrete reminder of the past, I stand with you, they shouldn't take them down because of the way they seem to just make the land so much better, and also if they were taken out, Tomorrowland at night would be a dark, empty place.

    I agree, the Peoplemover will never come back. However, they do need to do something with the track. This is what is known.
    See image below
    i843.photobucket.com/albums/zz352/loaloauk/Disney%20Planets/NewPeopleMover.jpg
    The image above is a ride system that uses something called a Kuka arm. It is basically the same technology that is used for the Universal Harry Potter Forbidden Journey attraction. Therefore Universal now owns a patent on that tech.
    The other thing that was talked about at one time was when Space Mountain went down for its long rehab, before the 50th. There was an idea to use the People Mover track as an extension to Space Mountain. O

    But the People Mover is alive and well in Disney World! Perhaps I'm not remembering the difference in the Disneyland version, but it's still incredibly popular in Orlando... reinforcing the structure and bringing it up to code would be a drop in the bucket for Disney especially considering the amount of massive changes happening at Disneyworld... right?

    • @urmomsmansion
      @urmomsmansion 9 років тому

      +Adam Hitt ALOT of change is happening at Disneyland to, with the new Starwarsland and Seasons of the Force happening, updating the tracks would be a great touch, but maybe a bit much. Disneyland is also a place of much history, and redoing the track is plucking one of those old, living stories away from the park. I personally think Disneyland has the most history left in its walls and gates ( not saying the other parks don't have history! ). But I do see your point! Also, Disneyworld's people mover (I believe) was built after Disneyland's so Walt and Friends could fix any mistakes first time around :)

    Hold it, FreshBaked!
    The ride the PeopleMover was at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA was from Sunday, July 2, 1967 until it broke down on Monday, August 21, 1995. Then it became Rocket Rods on Friday, May 22, 1998 and lasted through Monday, September 25, 2000.
    The Tomorrowland's above ground platform has been standing but not operating since Tuesday, September 26, 2000.
    After the completion of Star Wars Land, the Tomorrowland could remove the Rocket Rods Observatron from the pylon then they could remove all the old PeopleMover / Rocket Rod tracks between tearing down and rebuilding.
    Around 2021-2023, as opposed to the Old PeopleMover with motorized tracks (1967-1995) & Rocket Rods (1998-2000), in the same above ground platform, because of the possibility of people with wheelchair or mobility scooters, instead of the a new ride with motorized tracks, we all know it could be the New PeopleMover without motorized tracks, it could beHeathrow Pod Tour, it could be iMover, it could be Boxcar Tour or it could be a new ride with normal speed that is more comfortable than ever before.

      It could be all of those, sure. But the people mover ride, as constructed today, will never be back. as mentioned in the video, the only thing they will do is tear it down. Maybe for another similar attraction, but the track today is unfit for use.

    I think deep in my heart I've always known this to be true but like all the other hopeless romantic Disneyland fans I've always wanted the People Mover to come back. If it's not going to come back, I wish they would just take the track down.
    My feeling about why this hasn't been done yet is because the deconstruction of the track would be a very large undertaking and would affect several attractions including (but not limited to) Star Tours, Space Mountain, Innoventions, Autopia, Submarines, Monorail, Buzz Lightyear and the Astro Orbiter.
    But hey, who knows? I'm not an Imagineer and don't get paid those big bucks. Maybe they will find a use for it. If not as an attraction maybe a themed decoration similar to your idea of putting a People Mover train on the tracks.
    Time will tell.

    OK Dave you can have one car going into Star Tours And one coming out of Buzz, but if the track is that bad take it down. Nostalgia be dammed safety first. I loved the people mover and was very sad when it became that other ride (Lazy Rods right). Times they do change new band, holiday over lays, star tours, buzz, it's time to LET IT GO!!!! Yay I went there and bought a time share.

    I used to absolutely love your channel Dave. I still watch you now and then but all its turned into is this gaggle of people with their phones in front of their faces. I miss when you and maybe one or two others would just walk around and it was more about the parks than the people. That being said, I feel like you also have lost your Disney Spirit a little bit! As someone who's such a Disney purist, I'm surprised you don't want to keep a smidgen of hope that SOMETHING might come out of those tracks! We can all hope! It IS possible! It might be a long and painful journey to get there but it is not impossible. i love Disneyland, and I'm not trying to hate but remember that Disneyland will never be complete as long as there is imagination left in the world! -

      +FreshBakedDisney Couldn't disagree with you more. Dave has a lot of passion for Disneyland and I for one love his energy, enthusiasm and overall spirited youth for the Happiest Place on Earth.
      Just because he's thrown a few "opinions" on his site doesn't mean that he's lost his Disney spirit. I live 382 miles away from what I call my 2nd home (yes, I googled it) and have visited the parks a total of 37 times in the last 12 months. During that time I'm sure Dave (like myself), converse with others and hear conversations about rumors, wishes and opinions. UA-cam and freshbakeddisney.com are merely ways of publicly providing feedback on all the scuttlebutt we hear around the park on any given visit.
      I for one am glad that he does. Keep up the great work Dave!

      +FreshBakedDisney oh of course! That's a given but the periscoping and snapchats and all that jazz...I don't really want to watch when it's just videos of your crew of muffins, I subscribe to see Disneyland... I miss when it was just you and your camera (and some Instagram shots by the lovely Sara). Just let us dream about it! It's a classic piece of Disney nostalgia that we all want to see come back. As I said, not here to hate... Just reminding where the magic comes from :D

    They should make a Yesterday Land & build the people mover there....:)... Along with the old subs & the skyway...lol
    Seriously tho...I wouldn't be surprised that after Star Wars land is built, they decide to work on tomorrow land. I don't think they'll be keeping Star Tours there & they will have to make a lot of changes. Perhaps with the revenue they build up from Star Wars land they'll be able to make proper changes to tomorrow land. Don't get me wrong I loved & miss the people mover but it no longer fits. With today's technology getting better... I still can see them somehow making a ride higher up to fit in the land. They will definitely need to build something to make shade if they do remove the tracks completely. It'd be nice if they made a walk through thing like Tarzans treehouse...except with an exploration of space, science, & tech of the future. I know that innoventions is supposed to do that but that building could be better used. We can dream...
    Love these videos btw.

    I have to disagree with you on this. It was a mistake right from the start to replace the Peoplemover and I will say that in the 50+ years that I have been going to Disneyland, Rocket Rods is the only attraction that I have actually hated. There's no reason why the tracks can't be replaced and have the Peoplemover brought back. For me the fossilized tracks are a reminder that the Peoplemover should be brought back.

    No offense, but why do you focus on the bad side of those tracks? This is Disneyland we're talking about! They'll make pretty much ANYTHING work there, and I think that maybe in the future, when Tomorowland gets refurbished, I have faith that they'll fix those track and bring back that Disney classic
