It’s also worth mentioning that the Mane Six are a subdivision of Bon-Bon’s spy agency, they’re called F.R.O.W.N. (Friendship Ranger Organization of Worldwide Neighgotiations)
So being someone who owns nearly every book mentioned in this video, and someone who DOES really like Equestria Girls, there is something I NEED to mention about the adaptations of the Equestria girl books. So Shunks here did some quick review/summeries of the original stories, but there is one adaptation that is just WILD. You see the first book in that series is of course the original movie, but the SECOND book? You remember those shorts that came out before Rainbow Rocks? Yeah the second book is a novelization of all of those shorts. ALL of them. Including the one where it's Vinyl Scratch walking through the city while her music seems to match what's happening around her. Let that sink in. There is a NOVELIZATION of what is basically a MUSIC VIDEO in that book.
That's... a really bad idea lol, trying to translate a music video with no dialogue to a book marketed towards super young kids? I'm not sure what kids would get out of that
You are absolutely right about the Daring Do books basically just being display-pieces to put on a shelf. I ordered two of those books over two years ago and I have never opened them or even took them out of their plastic wrapping 💀
The Mares from SMILE one had proper dedicated art...for the US version. In the UK we got a generic Lyra vector and the name "Lyra and the Secret Agent Ponies"
The moment you realize you own every book mentioned in print. 😂 Since this list was pretty extensive, I am struggling to find books that you might have missed. Sure there are the even shorter story and picture books, but I would also not mention them on a list. One book that I can highly recommend that did not get mentioned is the “My Little Pony Baking Book” by Christi Johnstone. Sure it does not expand the world of mlp with text, but the recipes in it are really great. If you ever wanted to bake like Pinkie Pie it is the Book for you.
59:08 Princess Platinum is not a new character though. Also I think G5 still references this book since they brought the idea that Celestia and Luna were raised in a Alicorn city so it might be worth keeping as possible canon book rather than comics who are confirmed AU.
I'll be honest, I've never been too interested in the literary adaptations of mlp. I mean I have read some of the comics but other than that not much else. Thank you for the video Shunks, As always you never fail to deliver top quality content!
30:28 I'm very surprised I can't find a single comment mentioning this, but... this book is basically an "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusaders" retelling/allusion, isn't it? Older relative as an adventuring partner (and who wasn't in the previous books), quest for immortality and a lady who betrays the protagonist in the end instantly ring a bell for me as I adored this movie as a kid :3 I have no beef with the book and I'm def happy Daring Do has more IJ easter eggs, it just funny to hear you saying it was more original than the others 😂
Nice to see someone else besides me covering the original Ponyville Mysteries Chapter Books. As well as the other official non-comic mlp books that no one talks about. I still have most of the chapter books physically minus the Equestria Girls ones. In fact, getting Ponyville Mysteries was what got me interested in reading the chapter books
I adore the whole idea of Lyra and Bon Bon’s book because the title is just a reference to SHIELD from Marvel (I think) but also just the couple being spy wives. I really need to find my copy to read it through.
Finally some guide to all of the MLP books. I actually have the Journal of the two sisters and Luna's book and I love them. Gives me some extra lore and some great stories. The only book I didn't know about was the Wonderbolt book which looks cool.
I completely forgot about the Tell-All book! I read it all the time when I was younger. I also had both Elements of Harmony volumes. I would essentially roleplay as the MLP/EQG characters by telling stories and flipping the page in the book to whoever was speaking. It’s a bit hard to explain but GOD was it fun
the elements of harmony book! i was obsessed with that book as a kid, to a point where all the pages were falling out and i had to tape them back together.
i still have my copy and i also had to get some of the pages reattached because i reread it so much lmao. they fell out at school and i think the teacher thought it was a library book so she sent me down to the librarian to get it fixed. it's the only mlp book i kept because of how sentimental it is to me (i also used to own the journal of the two sisters, the first eqg novelization, and the crystal heart spell book. also that one book that was literally just the series premiere in graphic novel form using stills from the episodes)
This makes me so happy ppl are acknowledging the mlp books because I used to buy those like CRAZY, ask me about any mlp book and I could tell you the plot and everything because I owned it and is probably still in mint condition haha
I dunno, it still works. The alicorns came from another land, as per the Journal of the Royal Sisters and now G5. Flurry Heart is something Luna said "Equestria has never seen before". This would still be accurate given other alicorns were born elsewhere and Equestria's alicorns (Twi and Cadie) ascended.
8:48 IDK why but this lowkey reminded me of the re:take of the Little Miss Rarity creepypasta Rainbott wrote, what with the idolizer slowly impersonating the idol.
About the Movie art book. I haven't read it, but it did reveal that the Storm King would have been more original in appearance. A different species, to be specific: a Tibetan demigod
while i’m not sure if you’ll ever see this since the video is from months ago, you should scan the books and upload them to archive online! that way they can’t become lost
"ok family guy" took me OUT girl was spot on i think that's the biggest problem that turned me off from the books, like stop reminding us that it's a mlp g4 book and just SHOW US in the writing i will say i still have the wonderbolt handbook and even if im not as much an active fan anymore, i love just going back through it. i don't know why, i just love the ideas they present. sure it's presented kinda juvenile, but it feels like something i'd write myself to read to a group of kids and i always love that
Nothing But Trouble had the most gorgeous sets I've ever seen in a movie. The seemingly random piles of clutter, knick-knacks and collectibles were pieces of art. 😍
I never understood why the prequel books (and comics) make it out to be that the fall of Mt. Aeris happened, like, maybe 4 months prior to the start of the movie. I think its very obvious just in how overgrown the ruins are when the Mane 6 arrive that its at least been a year, if not several since the Storm King tried to invade. Plus, Silverstream later goes on to imply that she was either born underwater, or was so young when they fled she doesn't remember being on land much, so it was clearly an extended period of time.
Ik for a fact that I had one of these and the only page I remember is a page describing discord and his chaos stuff. I remember because I called it “cshaus”. Idk which of these books it is but ik it’s one of them. The background was the colour of piss if I remember correctly and a PNG discord

One thing I did like about the Pinkie Pie's Rockin' Partypalooza book is the rock concert she puts on is referenced later in the actual show, the episode The Mane Attraction
Omg I remember having The Journal Of The Two Sisters when I was little and when I would watch the early episodes of Diamond Tiara being a dick I wanted to scream at the tv that Celestia & Luna were blank flanks for quite a while as well
Thank you for wanting deeper Equestria Lore/Timeline books, because as a fan of fictional expanded universes and a FIM fan since 2011 I want that too! I've been trying to make my own for a while, since none of the fan projects I've seen that are similar have been entirely to my liking - I'll try and release it once I've gotten something that can be released publicly.

Thanks for the Ponyville Mysteries spoiler warning! I've been reading the comics whenever I went on vacation with my parents, I finally told them i'd rather stay so I need to get back to it here
There are sad moments in MLP, Twilight forgets her old friends, Scootaloo forced to leave her friends, Rainbow forgetting that she has amazing parents that most people want, Granny passing away and much more
Watching this while drawing fanart for Rainbow Dash Presents 🥰 The episode I’m making fanart of may have been released like 11-12 years ago- but like 🥺 the Jokermort 👉👈
I owned all of the mane 6 books and the celestia one, however, I never got into any of them except the Rarity one. This brought me back in a way I didnt expect 😂
My dad made some art for the books / comics but they never put any credits for him. !!! Cool to see the books / comics being shown around though ! I was really young when he made them though, I think 5? 6? I don't remember much, but I vaguely remember thinking it was the coolest thing.

Thanks for the Ponyville Mysteries spoiler warning! I've been reading the comics whenever I went on vacation with my parents, I finally told them i'd rather stay so I need to get back to it here

T-TALLY HALL
tally hall.
new subscriber here, been loving your content and miss the old intros to the videos. im wondering what happened to it?
There are sad moments in MLP, Twilight forgets her old friends, Scootaloo forced to leave her friends, Rainbow forgetting that she has amazing parents that most people want, Granny passing away and much more
“Every” yeah right that would take more than a month
They made a guidebook for g5 and it comes with an incredibly sticky sunny starscout figurine
...sticky?!
Watching this while drawing fanart for Rainbow Dash Presents 🥰 The episode I’m making fanart of may have been released like 11-12 years ago- but like 🥺 the Jokermort 👉👈
"who is buying the wonderbolt handbook?!" ME ITS MY FAVORITE OBSCURE PONY LORE
I just found out I have that 200 dollar Mlp book and got it in perfect condition from a thrift store :,)
(0:52) "Not even the Scholastic Book Fair was safe from them." Does that mean the fair will always have to put the books in the events?👁️👄👁️
Genuine question, are the comics enjoyable to an older audience? Ive been genuinely interested, but i really don't want to invest just to get bored.
