Slow living and foraging for bilberries in Peak District.
It's my birthday! I always get a little bit more melancholic and reflective before it. I used to be afraid of getting older and didn't like the idea of having a birthday, but I think I'm changing my relationship with it lately. I'm still as reflective as ever just a month before it, but I'm not afraid of getting older anymore.
I made this yummy bilberry cake for my birthday.
I used this recipe which is similar to a traditional Lemon Drizzle cake, and I made a few adjustments to suit my taste.

The adjustments I made:
Instead of 175 g of butter I used 125g + 100g of greek yoghurt
I used 125g of coconut brown sugar
And because I had a bit more wet ingredients (yoghurt) - I also used 185g of flour instead of 175.
Also I doubled the amount of berries.
And instead of 1 lemon, I used 1.5
Feel free to make these adjustments as well, or follow the recipe as it is - it's one of my favourite cakes to make!

There is something magical about collecting / foraging ingredients and then cooking something from it! With all the availability of things nowadays it’s amazing to go back to the roots of how it was before and make something with your own hands!

There is something primeval about hunting and gathering some of the food we eat. Going to the market and buying our food is the easiest. Growing a garden or raising animals is the hardest way at attaining food. But going out in nature to find and harvest the wild bounty, to me, brings me back to the real world of our ancient roots. also the bilberry stains made me smile, as I've been eating lots of frozen blueberries this week and my nail is stained now, but somehow it never occured to me how much stains could come from berry picking! Not stains as in a messy way but in a magical, nature way I suppose.

Such a blessing to have escaped the masculine rat race women (we) got ourselves into. It’s so diminishing and masculine out here, futile.
