  • I always keep a knife in my garden, so I can easily cut my vegetables as they are growing. Thus, this Opinel N°8 "Garden" is a little bit rusty after 2+ years out on the garden, taking the dirt and rain on it. So I tried to restore it as much as I could !

    Someone went nuts with that blade. It was almost serrated.😂 Nice work on the restoration.

    Opinel knives are a work of art. Simple and elegant. Thanks for posting this, I couldn't figure out how to take mine apart. It just needs a little TLC.

      It’s not that hard, but it’s easier when you have seen it first :)

    Nice video, nice clean up. Cutting paper is a reasonable test of sharpness, and the Opinel blade has good geometry for cutting. To really show sharpness, cut thin slivers off the paper.

    Nice restoration and that grinding tool was awesome. I have never seen that before.

      I have seen other versions of it on knifemaking videos, and it's super useful to grind a nice and regular bevel on your knives

    That knife would have been much so much better if you had simply cleaned it, oiled the handle oil rubbed the blade, and then restored the edge. You cannot buy years of patina. If you wanted a new opinel you should have just bought one, they're cheap.

      Well, I wasn't looking to make it new again, just to try and make it somewhat better than how it was when I got it ;)

    Thanks for the video...I would like to take the blade off mine but was curious about the pin. you can re-use it? Is it not too short after having filed it to take it out?

      Bonjour. La virole est normalement parfaitement ajustée pour fonctionner avec le couteau, il ne faut donc pas essayer de l'agrandir ou la rétrécir. Vous pouvez cependant y mettre une petite goutte d'huile, pour qu'elle glisse mieux.

    Très belle restauration ,vous avez remis le pivot d 'origine ?

    • @FrenchCoastWorkshop
      @FrenchCoastWorkshop  3 роки тому +1

      Merci ! Oui, j'ai réutilisé toutes les pièces d'origine. Il faut juste limer un peu une des extrémités, pour qu'elle reprenne bien sa place
