Wow those rebuilds are SO quiet! Glad to see those legendary frames getting new life. Interesting that they're only 2300hp. I wonder if, for the weight, that 3000hp was more than the SD40-2 really needed or that given the advances in electronics, AC adhesion, etc. that the horsepower requirements are not as great as they used to be.
Great video of the new CSX SD23T4 hard at work! What a great looking piece of machinery and always nice to see a fresh paint job! Definitely chose awesome location's to get some amazing footage! New subscriber of your channel and will be checking your other videos as well. Cheers from Laurel, Delaware USA.
The SD23T4s have a 6 cylinder in line GEVO engine. Since it is a tier 4 engine, nothing would stop WABTEC from building a completely new locomotive's with it. Either 4 or 6 axle. I could also see them do locos with the 8 cylinder in line or v engine rated at 3,300 HP.
Its all about fuel conservation, right ? Having lived my career around the 645 prime mover it would be interesting to see inside the carbody and take a look and at the generator also ….hearing one idle would answer some curiosity …. So, is this engine model program refurbishment out of Huntington or Waycross ?
@@blueridgerails I'll be honest, they're an abomination to an emd guy like me.. they look cool, but it's like putting a Ford or chevy motor in a 69 charger.
@ChargerusPrime if CSX seems them as a gevo, and uses them as a gevo, then they'll be sp much more interesting to shoot than a normal widecab gevo. It's still a standard cab EMD
Magnificent catches of the trains coming by and pass, I like it 5 stars, keep up the great work, my friend, I subscribed your channel, Greetings from Portugal to the USA.
Good to see another new lease of life for the indestructible SD40s. With 2300 hp though, they're 1000 hp less than the original, so I presume they'd be mainly intended for switching?

They definitely are! They're interesting locomotives for sure.
well, it’s really quiet because it wasn’t going very fast. Nor was it pulling a very heavy consist.
I hate how quiet modern locomotives are.
@@joshandkorinnaSame here.
They should take the mufflers off just once and do a Notch 8 rip
some of the most interesting units csx has by far ever rebuilt, great video Nathan!
They definitely are, Thank you!
Just joined! Great video & beautiful scenery ! ( KY native here lol👍🏻🚂❤️🌄)
Thank you!
great job i worked for clinchfield back in 70s 80s dam i miss the sd40 45 s there was nothing like thoes units
Thank you! There's nothing like a good ole sd40!
Scenic footage on the Clinchfield of EMD rebuilds on MOW equipment train and nice day for filming!🛤🚂
Thank you!

Thank you for watching! We are so glad you enjoyed! They definitely are sweet locomotives. Greetings from NC!
Hoorah, normal cab locos for a change, very smart, like them a lot. Nice vid, all the best from Lancashire UK
Yep, they look great! Thanks for watching!
Excellent video! I like the new locomotives and their horns too. Can`t wait for your next video.👍
Thank you! We like them aswell, thanks for watching!
Great video! Awesome work from you! Keep it up my friend

Very cool video! I dig those new rebuilds, very sharp looking.
Thank you! Me too, they look sweet!
Nice sd23t4 locomotive and that new bell looking 😊🎉❤
Yep!
Yep!
Very Interesting Locomotives
Indeed!
Nice catch
Thanks!
Perfect shot and video.
Thank you!
Nice video thanks. The Locos look and sounded very smart. Also, I noticed that the Track is in fine fettle - which helps any Loco and Train get along.
Thank you!
That is one of the coolest trains of the year! Great video as usual! Thanks again Nathan!
It definitely is! Thank you!
Good luck on the Santa train can't wait to see what you produce
It was such a chaotic day I don't know what the video will look like...
Fabuloso video boys!!!!
Thank you!
Great to see these out on the mainline! I really hope they send some our way soon.
Yessir! Hopefully they're successful!
Fantastic!!!!
Thank you!
Absolutely awesome video mate loved watching it thanks 👍
Thank you!
the E bell threw me for s loop. Honestly sounds WAY better and more pleasant than the Graham White E Bell which has been the same since.
It’s definitely interesting.
8:00 there is a great scene what looks to be a railroad structure in the background that’s either a water tower or an old coaling tower
Yep!
Okay.. yeah, I'm kinda not sure how to feel about gevo powered emds.. the new E-bells sound GREAT though
I love the locomotive, the only thing I don't like is the E-bell...

Great Video Nathan!!!!

Did anyone notice the two different K5HL's though? And they are awesome
I agree, they sound great!
They aren't quite K5HLs... they're a very unique variant of them, I cant remember what they are called.
@@orbitsrailfanvids they sound so unique

Some of these ET23DCM's are being used as new yard engines.
Yep
@@blueridgerails I also took a picture of CSX 1716 at Cumberland yards working as a yard engine. 3 days be4 Christmas.

Yep! I think they're made for switching, and a smaller locomotive to occumpany road power on road trains.
Guess Kyle miss that one in Marion I guess when It got to Cherryville it was to late for me also.
Yep it was dark when he came into Marion. We headed home from there
Nice!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you!
nice video buddy
Thank you!
Nicely done, but what is up with that pilot? The notched corners and yellow paint are what is found in third rail territory around New York City.
Thank you! This is a new paint addition that csx is trying out, I like it.
Some of these units have third rail clearance, if the donor SD40-2 was configured that way.
What is the name of that bell that that locomotive has?
Honestly don't know, I think it's a Canadian E-bell. Someone else should be able to answer it better.
Heard these don’t really load very well and aren’t too popular with some crews
Are these engines AC traction or DC?
I think they are AC, could be wrong though.
I'm guessing they are DC. I'm just going by Wabtecs classification of them (ET23DCM) so I could be wrong.
some thing feels off about these engines...
They’re a little odd!
I’m not a big fan of the Canadian e bells.
Me either
Terrible emd shell with a ge engine
The shell is what makes it cool!
@blueridgerails i guess. Its just feel s strange. Its putting a chevy motor in a mustang lol
this is like putting a chevy engine in a classic ford....
Lol yep!
hey if you guys wont to rail fan your welcome to come to slaint va
We will add that to our list!
