It is a bit of a misunderstanding to say that the samis where like the native and Vikings like the the white settlers. Both the Norwegians and the sami inhabitaded the country at the same time, after the Ice-age. In the first millenias both peoples lived a nomadic life style. The later main difference is that the Norwegians originated from the German tribes, while the samis was part of another ethnic group located in the central Europe during the Ice-age. While Norwegian mostly skiftes to a more agricultural life, the samis remained as a nomadic people. Since Norwegian mostly lived along the coast, they were really not competing so much about the same areas.
One of the first Norwegian cultures where the Fosna, that maybe dates back as fare as 12 thousand years.

I love the dialogue between Harald and his 19th century friend. It really feels like a dialogue between different ages also linguistically. It always blows my mind that they were able to create that so well and also all the friction that is happening is damn realistic imho while they portray current political issues through this lense. Very intelligent and creative.

Been loving watching this with you guys! And I had to mention it when you started talking about Idunn: my name is Idunn, and people never seem to know that story (e.g. when playing God of War). Finally feel included :D
Funfact: Idun is the most common ketchup brand in Norway. Most people associate my name with that, rather than with the Norse Goddess :(

Nope, Human Scrat is not the tracksuit guy, but the impression is spot on.
Madde's father is the Nomad chieftain from Norsemen / Gelgill, the slave trader, owner of Guthred from The Last Kingdom.
Also forgot to add the cap cop when I wrote about Netflix Christmas show, he's playing a guy fixated on escape rooms.

You seen The Almighty Johnsons? The apple thing reminded me of it. NZ show about Norse Gods that went into hiding in Auckland. It's a dramatic comedy, a good one with a proper ending.

    1. The whole thing with Madde faking a time travel is connected to the graduation celebration I mentioned in one of the Ragnarok videos, remember russ?
    2. No, that was not the tracksuit guy. 😉
    3. The name is Skjalg and i don't think he's supposed to be related to Egil Skallagrimmson, but I like the connection.
    4. The battle in flashbacks is indeed one specific battle. 29. July 1030.
    5. Did you recognise Madde's father?

Very late comment, but I felt like commenting on the Sámi stuff and wether or not it's racist. Now, I'm not Sámi, first of all, but I am Norwegian and as such have a fairly decent idea. Sámi people have been occasionally subject to the whole "noble savage" thing, but it's far less prevalent than with native Americans. The more common hurtful stereotypes of Sámi people is of them being drunks or having "weird" traditions. I don't think it would be too surprising for a Sámi person to object to the pathfinder character, but given that he was portrayed by a Sámi actor, and I couldn't find anything about anyone complaining about it, I think it's perfectly acceptable. It's not like it's unrealistic for a Sámi person to be good at tracking either, 'cause being that they used to live nomadic lifestyles back before the 1900's and would often live as hunter gatherers (many were reindeer herders, of course, but not everyone), they would probably learn such skills more often than someone who lived in one place their entire life.

12:05 Kind of thinking "divorced from your wife and value of your neighbourhood has gone down because of beforeigners vs arriving in an unfamiliar time in a changed place, your son drowned while you arrived, no idea how you got there and keep getting verbally attacked by timeists".....I mean divorce can really, really suck (though the people I've known who've come from divorced families have either said "yeah, they still get on just fine though" or "it was tough at the time but things got a lot better after it happened), but in the grander scheme of things there are some worse things that can happen to a person than a divorce.

I don't believe in them or in any gods but I still respect the sheer awesomeness of the stories of the mythology, though I know more about the Greek/Roman gods.
