I just used our blackberries to make seedless jam :) I just put them through a fine mesh strainer and processed normally as jam, no pectin, just berries and sugar! It's divine.

I remember the year back in 68, my mother and I picked berries. She made the best syrup, no seeds, she knew that I didn’t like the seeds, but boy I sure loved that syrup on my pancakes. That’s been a while ago, I miss my mother she passed away 8 years ago and watching you make that reminded me of her, thanks for sharing and waking up my memories. God bless

Great memories...thanks for sharing! My mom passed in 2005. She would take us kids with her blackberry picking every summer back in the '50s and early '60s. She made the best cobblers with them...YUM...! And blackberry syrup on pancakes (make mine buckwheat, please)...double YUM...! I think of those experiences every summer or when I see or hear about blackberries.

When my husband and I first married 1971 he would go pick blackberries and my Mama would make a big blackberry cobbler. It was the best. She could make the best homemade biscuits also. I think of Mama daily. BTW, she & I didn't like picking berries because we were afraid of snakes. Mama passed away at age 64 from a massive heart attack. This fall she has been gone 25 years. If living she would be 89.

DLR Young This comment thread is beautiful, if poignant. My dear Mother, as I called her, died this Memorial Day 5/25. She was 91. We didn’t do a thing w berries. We were Cubans in the Chicago suburbs. We did have a small suburban garden w plenty of corn (7 children);and grapes. Mother made grape jelly and what a mess it seemed. Purple countertops. Such a blessing our memories can be. I read a very old quip about this. “How can they be gone when they are always here with me?”

Since we're all sharing things here☺...
I'm 40 this year. I have been canning now for 19 years. Typically, 21 year olds weren't canning back then, and I'm not sure what possessed me to start. I made a batch of apple butter my first time ever canning. I gave my parents a jar, nervous that it wouldn't be as good as the stuff they would buy from the grocery store now and then. My dad opened up that jar and dipped in a spoon.. then took a spoonful, then another spoonful. Then he fed my mom a spoonful, and as her eyes closed and her smile widened, the quiet "mmm" as she savored it told me I won. My dad put in a batch of biscuits as I was leaving, I didn't partake because I really don't like apple butter. (Can't tell you what possessed me to start making iy, other than a friend inviting me over and we picked apples) Few days later, Dad rang and asked for a refill!
Mom canned a bit when I was small, very small. I don't remember her canning, I just know she did, because we three kids would bicker about who would go downstairs to pick the best jar of beans or carrots or tomatoes. I do, however, just once, remember her pushing grapes through a sieve for jelly. She said there's no way I should remember that, I was only a year and a half old, and she only made grape jelly the once.
Now, I still can apple butter, it's my specialty, the one everyone asks for.
Last year, I made for the first time, ladies and gents, my 6-fruit seedless "Jumbleberry Jam" with my mother-in-law in mind. I finally had all the berries I needed to make it. Huge success, but darn it all, I could only produce 5 half pint jars. One for the MIL, one for my mom and dad, one for the neighbor behind, who I traded zucchini for, one for the neighbor next, who always gives treats to my dog, and one for the neighbor across, who gives me eggs. Eggs to bake the chocolate zucchini bread that I promised my neighbor behind me.
Other things I can are of course, tomatoes in several forms, yellow peppers (6 plants is a little excessive), salsa, applesauce, apple bbq sauce (pork chops... wowwie!!)apple pie filling, cherry pie filling, cherry jam, strawberry jam, wild raspberry syrup, pickles, sweet relish, dill relish, and successfully pressure canned beef tips, seasoned ground beef, pork, and chicken.
This year I look forward to my peaches, my tree only produced two or three last year, and I lost them to a torrential downpour. BUT today I counted the little baby peaches and I have about 3 dozen, about the size of a dime! SO, I'll be searching recipes for peach preserves!
I dont have a huge yard, but I plant quite a bit. I live in Michigan on a quarter acre in a 950 sq ft 3 bedroom house in a neighborhood where everyone seems to have something to share or trade... to use for something else to share or trade.
All that's missing is a general store, cattle, and a fishing hole. Township might frown upon the cattle... 🤔
Thanks for reading my long... long story. Lol

Sarah, I make blackberry jam but smash the berries through a sieve .. it takes awhile but it is so worth it. It is my family’s favorite! I usually can whip up a bath of jam in an hour, however the blackberries take several hours. I feel having the whole berry flesh in the jam really makes it better than just juice. The seeds are discarded in the compost and my pantry is stocked with “ summer in a jar”!!! Try it! You’ll love it!

Blackberry and apple is my favorite, I cook them separately, sieve out the pips then put together with the sugar and jam as usual. Never used a waterbath just a large pan and boiled to setting point. Waxed paper circles and cellophane tops with a rubber band. One third to one half blackberry to apple.

Love watching you work so calmly with your canning. Brought back good memories of my Daddy collecting blackberries for Mom to make delicious cobbler. He hated chiggers and wrapped the ankle of his pants and wrists of his shirt with Clorox dampened cloths. Good hot southern problem solving. Of course, he had a big farmers hat to protect from the very hot sun. He didn't mind us laughing at his getup as it worked!

You're one of the best instructional individuals on tube. Most people don't walk you through the entire process, like you do. I have about 40lbs of blackberries to can, and don't remember the process. Although we canned 600-1,000 jars, when I was growing up, (from our 150 x 300 garden), I've forgotten a lot of things. We were homesteaders in the 70's, but I got away from it for years. Started prepping in 2016, and homesteading again a few years ago. Thanks for the videos!

My Grandmother always soaked her Black Berry's & Raspberry's because she said she was waiting for the bugs to float to the top. But they was then put into Freezer Bags & down into the freezer they would go.
She saved hers for Pies & Syrup & we loved the seeds, but I struggle with Diverticulitis & so now I cant have seeds.

Love my steam juicer ! I add a marble to the bottom section. As the water boils the marble will bounce and make a clicking noise. If you don't hear the noise, then the water is to low or gone !!! I love this tip ! Also, in my instruction manual, it says to dump the first jar of juice you take off, back over the fruit...That will help have more even concentration. Enjoy ! PS. So Glad you are using the debubbling tool I sent you...Great tool, Right ?

During WWII, we camped all summer at my Uncle's farm in the woods. Mom canned many jars of blackberries, (many other foods too) over an open campfire and later a Coleman camp stove. Even though I was fairly young, I remember, fondly, picking the berries and eating them as I picked. Those really were "good old days."

I have never had access to all the blackberries I have wished for. My family was not so crazy about blackberry seeds either. So I decided to add grated zucchini, which is fairy neutral in flavor and allowed me to extend my berries to make more pies, jams, etc.without so many seeds in the finished product. I may add a bit of lemon juice or other flavoring to the zucchini depending on what I am making. Also be aware that the powers that be may 'so cleverly spray poisons' on roadside berries while they are developing and even when they are ripening. Take care and pick safe clean berries and enjoy! Thank you folks for all your sharing of the great info which is so valuable in these times!!

    Whole blackberries
    Sugar (to taste)
    Milk
Absolutely delicious and simple! If I had an ice cream maker I'd make blackberry ice cream with the milk.
    2. Make it work mojito
1 and 1/2 shots of coconut rum
    4oz sprite
    3-5 mint leaves
    Juice of blackberries (to taste)
Very light and refreshing! A recent favorite creatation

This takes me back to when I was a kid. My papaw would take us blackberry picking up in the mountains. We live in East Tennessee. We had that big blue canning kettle and about 3-4 one gallon buckets. We did not come home until every container was full. When we got home Mamaw would wash and can them. Then we would do it all over again the next day. At the time it was torture, but I’d go back now in the blink of an eye.

6 cases of smooth side pint and half pint mason jars with lids! Perfect!

When I was growing up in Wisconsin, my mom would always make crabapple jelly. It was my favorite. A few years back I was able to get my hands on some, they are an old apple and hard to find. A friend asked me if I'd like to borrow the steam juicer you are using. I did and made some really great juice and jelly with those little pink crab apples.

Those blackberries make the BEST jam. We have a machine (I think a Vita Mix) but it juices the berries, giving you the juice and the pulp from the berries, but removes the seeds, so it makes, not really jelly, but jam. The best part of this machine is that you handle everything without it being heated. That was the best jam, because it had NO SEEDS! Sarah, I'll keep praying for your health. I'm having surgery myself in August, a very minor surgery, but surgery never the less! Take care of yourself and God bless you and yours.

So glad the prayers for you were heard and you are doing well after your surgery. This video was so well done. I had a steam juicer and canned blackberry and black raspberry juice with it in the late 90's. It was wonderful juice. I never did apples or tomatoes with it though and would love to see how both the apples and the tomato juice it produces comes out. I hope you will find time to do a video on both sometime in the future. May God continue to bless and protect you and your family.

I was so delighted to see your steam juicer!!! I was given my great grandmothers steam juicer over 30 years ago and use it often (its probably an antique by now, yours is way prettier). I live in an area where there is lots of orchards as knowing many of the farmers I have asked for their cull fruits that they cant sell. Many give it for free or at a minimum cost. I have made Cherry, Apricot, Prune, Plum, Peach and anything else I can run through that bad boy. A little trick I learned from great Grammy is: keep pouring the first few jars back over top of your fruit to maximize yield. And if you want thick syrup or juice extract that you could water down at a later time, keep pouring extracted juice over the top of the fruit till a thicker juice is extracted. I'm so happy to see others use a steam juicer😊

What a blessing to have a good harvest of fresh wild blackberries. My dad didn't like the seeds in jam like you. Momma would take a strainer and press the blackberries through and throw away the seeds to make seedless jam. I remember we never had store bought pancake syrup when I was growing up. Momma would take a jar of jelly or jam to make us homemade syrup. We sure were a lot healthier and loved that homemade syrup. My children thought I was losing my mind when I made homemade syrup the first time. Blackberry and blueberry is their favorite nowadays.

The picking especially reminded me when I was a kid. My dad took old metal coffee cans & added a wire loop as a handle. You could hang the can off your belt, freeing both hands for picking and/or fending off the berry briers. There were several farms across the road where we had permission to pick. We would come home with maybe 20 lbs of berries. Great memories.

A couple of hints. One for the blackberries, if you cup your hand under the berries, and touch the ones you think are ripe, the very best and the ripest will fall off into your hand. I used to clean them , let them dry and put them into the freezer. They are great for just grabbing and snacking on. No sugar, and they were still quite sweet while frozen, a couple in a lemon aid or tea is a nice treat.
Also you can use your steam juicer for things like ginger, so if you grow ginger or get a good sale you can make a concentrate. It is good for colds and chest congestion, add orange juice (or lemon) some honey in a tea.

Glad to see you are doing better. You've been in our prayers. With our steam juicer, we just let all the juice drain into a large bowl or pot. We then divid it once it all has collected. Then we don't have to worry about it over flowing.
