Hey Guys, so I wanted to clarify a time lime discrepancy that a lot of people (with good reason) have been questioning. There is a part where I was talking to John about letting the bike run and he comments about getting the oil hot and bringing it up to operating temperature. This was BEFORE HE DRAINED THE FLUIDS. NOT AFTER, LIKE THE TIME LINE IN THE VIDEO WOULD SUGGEST.
Okay I just posted a question how he did that with no oil. Maybe you could re-edit video in case some stupid people try heating up engine to take off filter with no oil like it looks like John is doing.
Great job John. Nice to see you can show us your job and what is involved in this. More than I personally thought on my part. Thanks again John. And to you too Matt. ❤
Matt, John is a class act and what an awesome master service tech, his attitude and how he conducts himself you can see that he truly loves what he does and does it well. He is the type of tech I would want to touch and work on my bike. If you could do a video on removing the rear wheels on a touring bike and how to make sure the belt tension is would be awesome too.. Love you videos you do an awesome job!! if I lived out there you guys would be my bike shop for all my Harley needs!!! thanks for sharing I'm hooked. Keep the videos coming.
My Lowrider is coming up on its first thousand mile service, watching this video makes me wish I lived closer to Laidlaw Harley Davidson, I just hope the techs at my local Harley shop will be half as thorough as John, he totally rules 🤘🏻
Level 3 beard my as*. That’s easily a best in show, professionals need only apply, blue ribbon. . . Damn, it’s the end of the day and it’s perfect! Thank you for having a great attitude, not stripping or destroying any fasteners, and keeping cool under the Hollywood bright lights from that other guy!! Haha!
Absolute professional at work. I know how much of a bug it is when people are looking over your shoulder when you work. Respect to you John and Laidlaw's from an old mechanic in England. UK. 😎🇬🇧👍
Details, thorough, and honesty, is a beautiful thing. Thank You John & Matt. When I’m in the area, I’ll definitely make a stop and ask for John. Wish there’s is someone just 3/4 skills, experience, honest like John in my area (Sacramento, Ca). 💯❤🤜🤛
Hey Mat, Ashley here from Australia. Loved the service vlog keep it up... You're a legend and we all love how you've looked after our country man Danny MDB... You're the mr nice guy of the Harley world love ya work Sir
I wish I had the Confidence that my local Harley Dealer did all the same proper procedures. I bought my bike with 9,900 mi. and was told it had the 10,000 mi. service just done. It came with the checked out Warranty. You guys always seem so Trustworthy.
I would definitely want hi. Wrenching on my bike very thorough. I just hope he really is that thorough and not just when they are filming a UA-cam video. He is so smooth at checking everything out. You can tell he knows his way a Harley. Awesome job!
I’m sure he checked it, but I didn’t see him check belt deflection. Other than that, my hope is this kind of attention to detail service is performed at all H-D dealers. I love this stuff and I hope you do more videos in the service department! Thanks, Matt. 👍🏻
Yes, more of these. The washing video was excellent. I actually have that saved so I can watch it multiple times. Good music as well! It puts that LA metal/thrash scene into this video.
Matt, I really appreciate John Terradot's time on this video (since it cuts into his income). John Maxwell's shop videos are sorely missed. I don't know if you're thinking of filling that void; if so, you have my vote. I do 90% of my own work and builds. What we get to learn from a master tech is invaluable.
Income? How is he paid per bike not set hours? Strange, more bikes you service the more money mechanic gets per day. Not a good way to run business, rushing bikes through
@@jimmybe64 Techs are paid by what the service book "says" the service should take. So, interrupting a tech cuts into their pay. If the book says a service, like flushing the ABS system, should only take 2.5 hours, but it actually takes the tech 3 hours, they only get paid for the 2.5 service hours. If a tech gets the service done faster... they make more. Skill, experience, and speed are how they increase their pay. The shop does not pay their techs to stand around and shoot the shit with customers.
@@MedicareWire or the boss. I wonder where you worked because friendly service staff keeps customers coming back and arrogant mechanics keep customers away. You need a bit of both for a successful business.
@@jimmybe64 Agreed. But look at it from the service writer's point of view. They have to quote us a rate for a service, which they do from the book. It's not like the service writer can come back at the customer with, "Hey, sorry man, all I had available was a jr. tech to work on your bike, and he took twice as long as I quoted, so your bill is going to be twice as much." I’d pray that my dealership was that thorough and meticulous in servicing my bike but I doubt it. I’ll bet less than 50% actually come close to being so detailed. If I was in California I’d buy and service all my bikes at Laidlaws.

Very cool video. I just read a discussion on local Finnish motorcycle forum about necessity for brake fluid change, since that is not so regularly done in car servicing, so it was good to see why it needs to be done. Also, Nick could continue making those great riding gear videos in the future?

Matt, I want to see more videos like this. I need to do a 1k service on mine. I would like to see an Ultra limited getting some love. Enjoy all your video. Nice crew there.
Really enjoyed watching a pro do this service. I do all of this in my garage, but I take MUCH longer to do it haha. Would like seeing a bar swap on a Road Glide or any bagger, and if you guys work on older bikes, a tire swap and wheel bearing change on an EVO Softail.
This was a great video. It was an informational and interesting watch. I liked it. The questions my brother and I always have were answered in this video
Great video Matt as always. A nice twist from the usual style. Watching all your videos, and in my opinion the mix of riding and practical videos is spot on. Keep up the good work from 🇬🇧
Definitely enjoy these videos. Personally, would love to see any of the 5k, 30k, bar swaps, anything really. Give us a great idea of what WE should look for as riders. Also an idea of WHY people should take it to the shop to get service done- they have tools (& knowledge that lots of DIY guys just don’t have). Good stuff Matt! 🤙🏻
Love the garage videos. I think we all would to love see all the mileage service's. All your guys seem nice as heck Matt. I mean all of them. All the HD shops in my area seem like a bunch of Ass Hats, there are some nice guys but the biggest majority are Ass Hats. That's why I don't like going to a dealership and probably most other guys feels the same way. But it could be because of you and I'm going to say that it is you. You seem to be a great owner and boss to them. You have a great relationship and bond with all your people and that makes a DAMN big difference. If I lived out there I would go to your shop and due some services. But where I'm at, iv never been to a HD dealership. We all know Service work mechanical work are expensive. but we don't want to be treated like a dumb ass and talk down to.
One would think for the $500 a lot of dealers charge for this service that a new air filter would be installed instead of cleaning the old one and hanging it on a dusty fan shroud so dirt can be blown in on the clean side of the filter before re-install. Master tech for sure.
Bad ass video and bad ass tech! Wish we had him down here in south Florida! My tech sux!!! Four times in for shorted wires when all along it was a coolant leak on my 22 RG, now all the wiring is corroded cuz they missed the small leak 😩
Thank you Matt and John. My '22 SGS into local HD shop for 1K service next week. Your excellent explanations here help me picture what's happening behind the scenes to my ride. I'll be able to ask a few solid questions afterwards, such as clutch adjustment and fluids checks. Please continue adding service related info videos. Always enjoy your test ride vids and podcasts!
Meanwhile it was a great video and I’m sure he’s a great mechanic, please don’t install an oil filter with a wrench ever. The lack of torque wrenches was a bit disturbing as well. But I’m really glad someone finally put the correct oil in the tranny and primary, the usage of SYN3 for those 2 holes got a bit out of hand lately. Great series, please keep them coming.
If I could go back in time I’d have trained to be a HD technician. I love working on my bike. I didn’t even know I enjoyed wrenching until 2 years ago at 38. I work in a fkn cubicle as a capacity planner for intermodal freight… I hate my job .. sit there dreaming of riding .. and bikes in general
John is the kind of mechanic I want wrenching on my scoots for sure. He's a guy who takes pride and knows his stuff. Thanks for the awesome vid.

This was a great video. It was an informational and interesting watch. I liked it. The questions my brother and I always have were answered in this video
That's a level 100 beard man.
Great video Matt as always. A nice twist from the usual style. Watching all your videos, and in my opinion the mix of riding and practical videos is spot on. Keep up the good work from 🇬🇧
Thank you for the feedback. We will keep them coming
Like The garage video's. Just had my 1K service on my 2021 Ultra Limited I wish I was as confident my dealership did me like John did his customer...

@OfficialMattLaidlaw hello,i just got a message
Great job, very informative. Please do a video highlighting a 5K service and beyond. Thank you!
DEF WOULD LOVE TO SEE THAT
Love the service video! Do more! Want to see a 10k my HD service department said it’s a very important one.
Very Informative! I wish my dealer explained my 1k service to me and provided a checklist to show what was found and done.
love these tech type of videos Matt! Thanks John for putting up with Matt and the Camera hahahaha
Haha. Yea, he doesn’t get paid to talk, just for work.
Thanks for the video. I especially like the clutch adjustment. Keep showing more videos please.
@OfficialMattLaidlaw Thanks. is it a road glide st? Please let it be a road glide st. if you're a joking. I"ll laugh.
Finally a new video I was getting worried Matt
Excellent show. More!
Awesome video
Great video, loved the content and the reminder to go check the critical fasteners...yes, do a 5K and higher service video.
Excellent video Matt and John. Terradot is an amazing HD mechanic. We need to clone this guy. Cheers!
It would be great to have a good understanding of a 5, 10, and 20k service as well. Great content!
Impressive service Matt. Just had my SB 1K service in the UK. I wonder if they serviced it with the detail and effort that John did?
Meanwhile it was a great video and I’m sure he’s a great mechanic, please don’t install an oil filter with a wrench ever. The lack of torque wrenches was a bit disturbing as well. But I’m really glad someone finally put the correct oil in the tranny and primary, the usage of SYN3 for those 2 holes got a bit out of hand lately. Great series, please keep them coming.
What an amazing mechanic. That's the cat I would want to work on my bike.
38? Bro you're young. Get trained and do it! Make it a side hustle and see if you like it
