Everytime is see declutter videos I can’t help but think of how this is affecting the environment . I wish companies took expired products back and recycle the containers.
MAC has a recycling program. For every 6 recycled products you get a free lipstick, lipgloss or eyeshadow

In the U.K. Boots and Superdrug’s have a terra-cycle system for makeup containers and components . You can bring back literally anything from all brands!😄

I get annoyed when I see how much stuff they get sent-what a waste… definitely devalues the brand in my eyes.

I never bother reading the expiration dates unless something looks bad.
I have had powders for years and I still use them especially eyeshadow… seems very wasteful to just throw it away and re-purchase a new one.
I get major anxiety watching these videos because I love to recycle everything… I wonder what is the recycle procedure for the plastic containers holding all this make-up… or does it all just go in a landfill… 🤔😩
Like you I have been decluttering my home especially my make-up collection and it really makes me sad that I wasted so much money and time buying these things as when you have too much of something you don’t get to enjoy everything and use it… seems like we spend our time organizing and purchasing containers to organize our belongings… it’s exhausting.
I have been trying to downsize my life and I have never felt better even if it hurts getting rid of new things.
So happy now with Facebook market as it allows me to give away items I no longer want without feeling guilty about being wasteful and throwing things in the garbage.
Bro you read my mind like I love these videos but I want to know what they do with the garbage pile and donation pile
Kmsl!! I sure don’t pay attention to expiration dates! 😂 I still got some makeup from when I first started wearing makeup which is forever ago but they still do me good so I don’t bother throwing anything away until I’m out 😂😂😂

Idgaf about expiration dates either. I only care if the product still works and the formula hasn’t changed. I heard it’s more bc of bacteria but bacteria is everywhere anyways so if it still works I’m still using it.
Oh my goodness!!!! Same!!! Like lipglosses and lip products I’ll throw away because they go bad! And I’ll repurchase them (especially if they’re from a Colourpop collection)! 🥰 But throw away my eyeshadow palettes?!! No! Especially since I know that they’re not all going to be available on Colourpop or other sites where I could repurchase them! And especially when my career goal is to be a Beauty UA-camr!
This made me reflect and realise how it is to see how much products we buy for the sake of it but never or hardly use the products and they go to waste. Consumerism sucks !! However this was sooo nice to watch!!
I’m sad too . It’s like all of my favorite beauty blogger changed their content. I understand most people don’t get a lot of view on their makeup videos or they don’t care for makeup as much anymore. But it’s truly a end of a era 🥺
I love how everything you were decluttering was old and “expired” and nostalgic- but this is all the stuff I still own and still use every day when I get ready in the morning. Makes me glad I stopped buying when I did so that I can hopefully finish this stuff up some day and not have to waste it 🙏🏽
Same , I decided to stop buying compulsively and really start enjoying what I DO have.
This is the first declutter that was ACTUALLY a declutter 😂 I have one small table top acrylic with 5 drawer (like the one you have on your desk) and I still think what I have is too much because realistically everything expires in 6-12 months so I still won’t use what I have in that time. Besides UA-cam being your job I don’t understand how people have so much 🥲 it’s expensive too
For me, mascara and lipglosses are the only things that I'm super cautious with. Powders and products with a pump dispenser, I only throw out if it looks or smells bad lol.

Hello all! I want to tell you that the 12M is a little exagerated, and is a keep-selling practice for powder products. For example an eyeshadow palette can be used up to 2-3 years. If you really use them for more, it can become dangerous. Usually if a prodicts expires, it smells different and changes it s texture. For lipstick you can go up to 2 years, if you are carefull. Only for fundations/concelars is good to actually use them as the pack says.
I found you years ago, when I was in middle school, through your old makeup videos. Stopped watching for a little during high school as interests changed, and now I’m a freshman in college, really enjoying your content again. I’m so proud of you, and this is kinda emotional for me too 💕 Congrats on the baby and everything else you’ve achieved! And thanks so much for the makeup lessons.

That is a huge waste of makeup....This is why people should not hoard makeup,rather its your job or not to be a beauty blogger.If u know its too much for 1 person then you know you don't need it.A minimal makeup collection is all 1 person needs.It's like Laura lee said 1 time too much makeup in a person's collection can be cause anxiety especially when you do declutters. So you are so right when you said why keep if your not gonna use it! People should never had a huge makeup collection unless they know they can use it all without it going to waste.
This was so satisfying I had to do this with skincare after I stopped being a content creator. It can be hard for some people to understand how overwhelming it can get.

I have done this it took approx 2months & wow it is so freeing! Every nook & cranny cleared out. Give to charity or put clothing books etc on eBay so made money for things I can see I need.
I am now in with photos which is a huge job & I am thinking will take another few months to do 🙃
I'm currently on a decluttering journey...room by room and category by category. I have art/craft supplies and makeup left to do. It's very freeing.
Powders do not expire. I work for a major cosmetics company and we want to make sure people keep buying. 🙂

I thought the same. So much of decluttering videos online are extreme. But I wonder why do people accumulate so much in the first place.

I only throw makeup away if it’s been used fully , never use it or generally it’s gone bad. I don’t usually follow the expiration dates.

I know what you mean. I'd love to be on a pr list and get tons of makeup. I'd figure ways of sterilizing it and give it away. Or they should contact the UA-camr and ask if they really want it. There are a few pr lists that do exactly that. There is some makeup I don't use, if you are in the US I can try and get it to you.
There are a lot of companies who send PR. I get a lot of things for free like makeup and expensive creams etc… if you are interested dm me I will send you the links!

It hurts my eyes to see such a waste… I am always giving makeup to my cousins when I see I will not use or if doesn’t fit me or please me….they love it.

Yay I been waiting for this video for three days to be posted. I just decluttered my makeup collection this week as well. Was sad to see how much I had to throw out. Unfortunately with the tight covid restrictions in the GTA and working from home I never got to use most of my makeup for the past two. years :(

I don't give into the hype that powdered palettes or products expire in 6 - 12 months. I consider it more like a best buy date. I've owned several that smell, look, & most of all perform perfectly fine. I'm definitely NOT throwing out my $329 Natasha Denona or a $125 Danessa Myricks palette; just because it hits a 12 month expiration date. If it looks bad, smells werid, or performs poorly. I'll toss it immediately. Cream products are a whole differen't story though. They expire much faster. I've never had an eye infection, acne breakout, or skin problems due to my makeup.

I am starting to believe that these influencers get financial incentives to "declutter" "expired" makeup.
They probably get tax write-offs.
Non influencers like us do not get financial benefits of throwing out makeup just because it is "expired" or they "are not reaching for it".
This is why we should not always believe influencers when they do makeup reviews.

I don’t take much notice of use-by dates except for products around the eyes and mouth.
Blushes and highlighters probably are good for 10 years; as long as you don’t live in a humid climate.
I recently threw out some old eyeshadows as there was a fine film of mould on them from being in a damp cabinet (last May it rained almost every day).

Hi Amy I have the same issue except mine is decluttering my closet full of clothes that for whatever reason I keep holding on to. Like you I have put this off for at least a year if not longer. I know that once I clean it all out I will feel much better instead having to look at it and feel overwhelmed. Loved your video today.

No girl I get it! I declutter my makeup once every two years. And it's so sad to me because just knowing I bought all the makeup with my own money, yes I have a makeup addiction so I do buy way more makeup than one person needs, that's my fault but it's still sad because just knowing I was able to buy that makeup product with my own hard earned money gets me every time especially if I have to throw it out. 😪
