Here she shares her advice on this common question from patients about what to do when their doctor stops writing them prescriptions for opioid medications or they just decide on their own that it's time to get off opiates.

don't do the first one. i quit but always go back. just percocette. never tried smack, never done a needle, but perks are the same drug and i've tacken them for 50 years so don't do the first one. i went to na and quiut for 2 years then went back. i''m 79 even if i get clean what future do i have. good luck folks. the only time i quit was by tapering down so try it. it took me 3 months to feel normal
I was doin doses every other hour or less I just started taking half every 12 hours I mean it helping me atm till I completely kick the habit. But within the 12 hours like i start feeling like crap like on the 11 hrs but I think I can go longer it’s just my 3 rd day. Wish me luck I been threw cold Turkey a few times and I hate it. So I’m hoping I can do this I know I can. I also got kratom cuz I heard it helps.
how is that working? I was going to do the same but don't know if I would go thru wds longer until I stop taking completely
@Guerrero1187 what is your current strategy? I just stop cold turkey and its been just a day and a few hours buy I'm fighting through the symptoms. I was thinking bout trying the half a pill every 12 or more hours as well
@@mariob.3151 im taking 1 less pill per day and eating thc gummies as needed. its hard af to stop cold turkey. try stepping down 1 pill for a month then another next month. that's what im doing because I probly would be hurting at work. my back is really bad but being chained to the meds is getting old, I quit drinking in 2020 and now im ready to give up pain meds so im trying any and all methods. im hearing slow tapper is the most ''comfortable'' method
Most people go through acute withdrawal regardless of the method they use to taper.
Cold Turkey kicked my ass. Now I’m trying every 12 hours, and try to white knuckle it, as I get closer to the 12 hour mark.
Have hope. We can do this. It’s just that there really is no way around this process if you want to get this monkey off your back.
Kaopectate helps for the belly pain, and my sister had a liquid that works faster. She also was using chewable pepto bismol
I have dropped my meds completely going on four weeks now. It has eased just a little. I did not tapper. How much longer will this help last. Thank you God Bless everyone 🙏 going thru this hell.

Theres stuff u can buy over the counter, Like Imodium, Kaopectate, pepto bismol chewables, Tylenol, a liquid called Emetrol, Motrin, soup because they wont wanna eat much so u let them drink the broth also warm ginger Ale. I helped my sister off percocets this way. I had all these items at once for her and we switched around from them every 3 to 4 hrs so that the pain dont come back so fast.

@@sandraw9729 High dosage of Liposomal Vitamin C, Kaopactate, Pepto bismol chewables, and This one Liquid you can look it up as in reviews it is the best for the stomach pain you get the name is EMETROL the best liquid for the stomach pains they get with the withdrawel also imodium. We switched from all of these back and forth every 3 to four hours and after the fourth day she felt good and we then gave her tylenol and motrin we switched back and forth from the 2 and on day 6 and after she is on the Liposomal Vitamin C high dosage everyday from there on out. The point is when they get them Withdrawels its not easy for most and it makes them wanna go back easily
@pennygirl99 None of what you mentioned will help anyone in full withdrawal. If this was all your sister needed, she wasn’t addicted to much.
I had a reconstruction of my cervical spine a little less than a year ago...and was dropped by my pain Dr with 2 weeks left of medicine, and no notice I was being dropped until a letter came, a week before my scheduled appointment. I am disabled with severe arthritis. I have gout right now as well...and no idea where to get follow-up care. This Dr was always a condescending person, and I didn't want to keep going there...but, to keep my surgery date, I was told to stay with him, and assured things would be fine. I have been on opioid medication and Gabapentin for the last 4 years...and now, I suddenly have to stop with no supervision?
In case you are wondering, my big sin that resulted in my dismissal? I argued with the secretary about the amount of my co-pay! No cussing. No craziness. She refused to take my insurance card, and billed me as self-pay. I have PTSD, and had a panic attack. Two months later, a letter. Btw, you can't come here anymore. No one is helping
You make another appointment at a new pain management doctor preferably before you run out.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. It's scary how beholden we are to the prescriber when we are Rx'd narcotic medications.
I was reprimanded for crying at an appointment. A couple of years ago the prior authorization department of my clinic told me in error that no insurance company covers epidural steroid injection procedures any more after I had been receiving them for years there. I really need that adjunctive treatment for proper control of pain. After 6 months and three conference calls with an insurance representative to the P.A. person they still said I couldn't schedule unless I paid out of pocket. I was long over due for injections and my pain was not properly managed so I became emotional and dissolved into tears at an appointment explaining my inability to schedule the procedure to my medication management provider. I got a stern talking to as if I was a naughty child and then was charged for a behavioral health referral. I was so hurt and embarrassed.

I finally was allowed to schedule the procedure (by then 8 months overdue): my insurance company paid in full (including sedation) just as they said that would, minus the $50.00 copay I am responsible for.
At each appointment everyone must rate their pain level (on a scale of 0-10) but if you admit your pain is worse that day this too triggers a behavioral health referral (which is an extra charge). Discussing alternative/adjunctive non-narcotic pain management measures isn't an option. I've been Rx'd narcotic medications for 25 years and I'm now too scared to say anything other than my pain is unchanged from previous visits because I don't know how many behavioral health referrals you can wrack up before you might be eligible to be discharged from care. The irony that I am there for management of chronic intractable pain but I'm not allowed to be honest about my pain level isn't lost on me. Now I just tell them what they want to hear - everything is fine.
I wish someone would also talk about what to do for the chronic pain you still have after coming off. I’m terrified of a high pain level day and no meds.
CDC came out with new guidelines the first of the year. The big thing they are finding out is tapering doesn’t work in a lot of cases. The patient gets to suffer while finding out all these little peccadillos.

Exactly. But we can buy unlimited amounts of ounces of alcohol with absolutely no regulation. At least, in some parts of the United Kingdom, someone can purchase a extremely low-dose, codeine pill. But the United States it’s no, no no for even 8mg codeine (which is only equal to 1.5 mg of hydrocodone, basically 1/5 of one pill).
Thank you for addressing this issue. I am one who has been dropped. I was taking myself down and was doing well until I fell off of a ladder and now have a cluster of nerve pain at the stem of my brain.
I’ve gone through a lot of withdrawals. However my head is killing me. I’m dizzy. Have other health issues and will end up with a stroke of f I don’t get help.
This is more then WRONG!!!!!! I’m in ACCUTE withdraw. Not too far from finishing the he job the fall didn’t do.

You should try methadone or saboxone I heard subs are good and it took me over a month to kick the big M....it's worse I hear

Rapid detox made me feel extremely sick and depressed. Now, I stop taking any medication until it really bothers me fairly badly. Then I take a slightly reduced dosage. I never take them before feeling the symptoms.
Ms Joan is a super nice lady I use to be a patient of hers I wish I was the success story but I am now on methadone but strongly recommend anyone in Richmond va to go to the Coleman institute
