I've been self-educating myself about lighting and cinematography for the past year. I've easily watched 200 hours of videos on the subject and read several books. I could have watched this 3:31 video instead.
This was one of the foundational lessons of product photography when I was in photography school. If you want to light glass you can also use two soft boxes on either side of the glass with a black background behind it. The effect is very dramatic and works well for clear class as well as wine bottles. The thing you need to remember when shooting ANYTHING is that the surface your shooting sees/picks up on the light/color of everything around it. This is most obvious when you're shooting shiny chrome, but even people's skin will reflect the color of the grass they're standing on.
you've inspired so many people in our generation to go out and follow their dreams but no one has really thanked you for that. Thank you from everyone who has ever watched one of your videos! You are a true hero and inspiration to others. Thank you for everything you've ever done
Hello Matthew. This is one of the simplest and most effectives videos about lightning that I saw recently! Congratulations at your job!!! I´m amazed. Keep rocking 📷👍🏾
Just come back to be reminded of the basics from the master. I have the same mirror problem when photographing/filming bright-polished armour, add the anticlastic, concave and convex mirrored curves and much head-scratching and always seems to end up with the lens stuffed through a thumb-size hole in a white-sheet. Low-tech solution for a high-tech result. 🏆
Thanks Matthew that's so simple and brilliant. I am going to have another crack at wine glass photo now and some colorful transparent venetian glass I have. I like all the videos I have watched of yours so far clear and simple explanations. I am sure these took some time to get together so thanks for taking the time out to make them.
Thank you ! I just LOVE your tutorials, always very informative and easy to understand, even for beginners. Thanks for taking the time to share such valuable knowledge !
