Episode 406: NAB Changed My Life - Фільми й анімація
Wow! I’m not crying… you’re crying… can I just say, that was one of my most favorite Tom Buck videos of all time. I think that’s why so many people enjoy learning from you, you are real, and puns & all, we are here for it!!!!
Thank you Kathy 🥹
I feel like you and I share a lot of similar feelings when it comes to things like this.
You said it and it’s true, +1 for this comment :)
@@tombuckyou are the real deal sir. My school and charity radio and podcasting course was one of the learning organisations that benefited from your Sennheiser relationship. Because you wanted to give back to the community and the company wanted to work with you. A Small charity based community project in Scotland was able to receive a mind blowing about of cool equipment to share with the young people and the surrounding community.
I AM CRYING 😭 AND ALSO I LOVE YOU SO FREAKIN MUCH ❤️
I love you too, thanks for making NAB and all of life magical!
One of the most emotional and honest videos I have ever seen on UA-cam!
You are such a nice person Tom! Keep on going inspiring people (like me)!
Greetings from Germany, Michael 🤗🫶
Give me the person who is too emotional over the people who don't care - any day of the week. Keep up the great work!
I feel the same way. Thank you!
Best video ever. Not just best “Tom” video…maybe best UA-cam video I have ever experienced. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us.
Thank you 🥹
Mark Bennett's confused face about the setup at 23:22 made me laugh. Keep having fun with what you do, it shows.
Mark was having a “crisis” 🤣
It’s my natural state.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I can confirm this to be true. Especially when you take him to the the B&H after party.
Tom Buck, International Treasure
Like we all said so many times at NAB "This is so overwhelming," and ever since NAB, I have still felt very overwhelmed... but this video helped me put my NAB experience into perspective. You're right-it was life-changing. The people, the companies, the experiences... it was all amazing. It gave me a new respect for so many companies and all the hard work and passion that goes into so many products.
I had so much fun hanging out with you, Heather, Mark W, Mark B, and Aaron! So many fun moments that I will remember forever! It was so cool being able to hang out with you in person. I have a massive amount of respect for you as a creator and as a human. You are one of the best and most genuine people I know. This video was absolutely FANTASTIC! Made me a bit emotional... with allergies... TB for president!!!
You really helped make it what it was! Thanks for everything, and for all the help recording stuff 😁
We were at a hockey game last night and I saw a guy who looked like you walking towards us and got bummed when I realized that was impossible.
This wasn’t a “best tool I saw at NAB” video. This is exactly why I love your channel! The enthusiasm in this video is amazing and oozing out of my screen dude. People sharing the love they have for the things they love. Seeing you talk to Chris Metcalf was just a treat! Thanks for sharing.
Haha, it was SUPPOSED to be a "best stuff" video, but kinda took a turn. I'm really glad it did though.
It was a treat for me, too. - Chris
I have been deficient in communicating my appreciation for all of the wit and wisdom you constantly share with us. The information and insights you provide in engaging and fun ways are incredibly helpful. Please keep on keeping on. You continue to be a bright light in an often dark and cloudy world.
This means the world. I promise I did not expect to go this direction in my NAB recap video, but here we are 😁
You’re very welcome. 😎💜😎
Not a dry eye in the house after the end of that video! Loved it man!
Yeah, kinda took a turn there but I’m really glad I got to share everything. It’s easy to forget the human-component of so many things.
I relate so much to your closing comments - I always have (and still do) feel like I don’t belong in most places but (also like you) I know my tribe .. I have met them and I love them dearly
I'm so glad to hear that. I wish everyone could find their context.
Love the video Tom. You have been so tremendously helpful in my UA-cam journey, and I love your comment about "finding your people." I was just at a sports medicine conference this past week and still vividly remember going to my first conference and feeling that feeling of "yeah... these are my people." Thanks for all that you do!
This was not a "gear" lesson...this was a LIFE lesson! LOVE this one, Tom! You're the best!
Hey man thanks! Always nice to see you.
It was so great to meet you in person! NAB is quite a place, exhausting but sooooo much fun and such a cool place to meet people I only usually see online
So great to finally meet you too! So much taller in real life 😁
This is how I felt attending my first LTX, then CES and etc. It's SUPER important to me to go to an event every year or two, as that human connection means SO much.
That last chapter 🥹🫶🏽🥹🫶🏽🥹🫶🏽🥹
Amazing video, Tom! Thank you for taking the time out of your day to stop by my area at NAB's CineCentral; it truly was the highlight of my week!
Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm for Metcalf Noodles; it's because of you that there has been an uptick in orders over the past few weeks, including the first international orders from Canada, Australia, and the Netherlands. You have a great reach, my friend.
I really connect with the emotions at the end of your video, as well; I'm happy to be a part of your tribe. Hope to see you again at next year's NAB, if not sooner.
-- Chris
Thank you Chris! I'm so glad that this wacky world of UA-cam and video production let us meet!
Those closing words were amazing, thank you for sharing your work and passion with us! There are many of us who really appreciate it
It means a lot to know this. 🙏
So awesome meeting you Tom! It was a great show and the best part was just meeting so many awesome people like yourself. Great recap video and I think it sums up how most of us creators felt when leaving NAB.
Glad I wasn't the only one!
Good guy Tom, you're a real one 🖤
Thank you all for everything!
This was fantastic, Tom. I found your channel during the height of the pandemic and having just finished grad school. I’ve learned so much from you and I really appreciate your work!
Thank you so much Lucas! It really does mean the world to hear this.
This was great Tom. Thanks so much for sharing what the NAB show meant for you. So much more than just a trade show - it's where your tribe goes. Lovely work.
Yes! Exactly! Thank you for the kind words.
Nothing but love for y’all. ❤
That was me at 24:58 and I stand by every word I said. I've learned a great deal from this channel and have made quite a few purchases off your recommendation as well..e.g Elgato Prompter was the latest purchase. You're truly loved in this community.
YES! Thanks you for stopping by- sorry we didn't get to chat more afterwards.
Thank you for sharing your gifts openly and freely with the world. You are what makes the Internet great.
This video was a really excellent watch, awesome recap! Not sure if you were able to swing by our booth, but we are truly happy you had a great show!
Hey! We didn't get to say hi to you guys, but hope to see you next year!
Hey man! I work in Radio. I was talking to one of our vendors and saw you passing by. Glad you had a chance to check it out.
Hope you had a great time too!
Ah! Good! You get it!
I was only there for 4 hours this year, but it was enough to recharge and see a few people I only see at NAB, like I do every year!
Tom,
Thank you for not hiding your heart. We need more people like you who truly know and show the value of human connection. Love this channel.
Thank you! I had no idea what to do when this video started to veer into the more "choked up" realm, but I'm happy it did!
Well said Tom. Every word. We know what you mean!!
It’s crazy isn’t Tom? 20 years ago our job didn’t exist and we had no idea this would be a dream we wanted. I’ve often gotten teary eyed in front of my audience because you get emotional knowing you’re living your dream and it’s due to the people who watch you and get to know you. Who you grow to love and appreciate because without these awesome people in the comments we wouldn’t be able not only get to know such awesome from all around the world but we wouldn’t be able to live a dream like this.
Being a UA-camr isn’t easy and it’s much harder than people realize and it’s a lot of long nights and living or dying by an algorithm. But the people we get know and who enjoy our content are worth it.
As former cancer survivor years ago I had nothing and no direction in my life, but this platform and the amazing people make it worth and I can’t speak for Tom but it gives you a sense of purpose and meaning that make it worth getting up every day and chug along to make another video.
Well said Tom and I’m a big fan. Keep up the great work.
It can feel embarrassing to choke up, but at the same time, I think it's so important to embrace and appreciate those human moments. This stuff is magical and it's so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day that you forget. Congrats on being a survivor and working to find your context ❤️
"The Impact" really hit home for me and now I'm crying ahh!! What a lovely video Tom, thank you for sharing your passion and joy.
I'm really happy that it resonated with you so much!
Thank you so much for this video, Tom! You can't imagine how much inspiration you've sent into the world. I've been subscribed to your channel for years now and your closing words reminded me why I love making videos in the first place... Thank you for all that you do!
Thank you! And yes! The love of making videos is the driving factor for so many of us. It's easy to forget that sometimes, but making videos is just genuinely fun.
Absolutely beautiful video Tom. So glad to see you had such a meaningful experience at NAB.
Thank you sir! Wish you could'v been there!
I just wanted to comment. I am an indigenous person and my nation has stopped producing speakers 2 generations ago and the native speakers we do have are in advanced ages and passing away. Based on the practices of language documentation and recording speakers it has been proven to revitalize speaker populations (i.e. Hawaiian, Hebrew and possibly Klingon). I’m not a linguist nor educated in audio and whatnot, just a trained teacher. Thanks to you and your videos I am confident in my language endeavours and hopeful we can revitalize our language. Thank YOU SO MUCH!
Absolutely love this Tom. The best part is not only discovering your gifts, but finding other people, good people, fun people, joyful people who share those gifts and seek to lift each other up, and support each other rather than tear each other down. Family is found…transcending the limits of what you knew. We are all family in the same space. When you discover a group of people who just want to belong to something special… it’s awesome! You never really know how much the world’s negativity can affect you until find a group a people who only want your company, fellowship, and to find happiness as a group. It takes a village…and it’s life-changing - awesome when we find “our” village!!!
Heather was saying it's almost like wireless charging- there are some people who "charge" you just by being near them and those are the ones to seek out and make time for.
@@tombuck Heather is spot on!
It's on my bucket list!!!!!
Awwww... lovely video... stay blessed
I join the hundreds who have been saying how much I have always enjoyed you and loved this video. So real. So human... in the best sense.
I'm pretty blown away by the response to this video, to be honest, but it's comforting to know I'm not the only one who feels these things. 🙏
I remember my first NAB. Three days of ecstasy. I was practically skipping around the floor - dragging a growing bag of heavy brochures . Later NABs I paced myself a bit more. But my partner was with me for #3 and she was in love with all the free swag. UA-cam was still in its infancy for my last one; so no familiar faces (except, strangely, meeting Sinbad). But I still always loved meeting the actual people from the companies whose products I use. I could talk with them in a common language and they lent me their ears to my issues. It felt cathartic.
I can still remember Cathy talking to someone about going to Vegas with me. Another woman said, “Are you going because you’re worried about your husband in Vegas unsupervised? “
“No”, she replied, “I’m worried about him going to NAB unsupervised with our corporate credit card.” 🤨
This encapsulates it perfectly (we didn't meet Sinbad though).
@@tombuck If I met you on the floor, I’d be super-excited!
The best part of NAB for 2024 for me this year was watching you experience it. You know exactly what you experienced and the euphoria of the living organism you were a part of and melted into. I have to tell you there will be more to the story you haven't experienced yet. How to they say it "and now here's the rest f the story". It's a ride, I know you will take that ride with both eyes wide open. It takes a special person, personality, intelligence level, and imagination to take in what you were able to absorb. Some simply take it for granted, you are definitely not one of those people. It's a Disney experience in a whole different way.. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I’ve seen several videos from other content creators, and they are great but, if I follow you is cause you are the most human, random, crazy of some sort, and plain and simple explanations of things: thank you, Tom, and to your wife Heather, you are my dinámica duo! 😇😇😇😇🛐🛐🛐🛐
Thank you for all the kind words, it really does mean the world to both of us.
@@tombuck that is from the bottom of my heart and, hopefully one day, we can meet and talk about how to work with this environment, cause I’m fairly new at this, making huge mistakes (I think I bought a fake SM7b trying to saving a buck 😂), now using more Maono products, although I did got, and I said it in one of your previous videos, a second hand Rodecaster Pro 1! That I love like crazy! Anyways, I will be on my way; you are totally invited to my podcast anytime! And your wife too… I do have to check her videos as well, but you are blessed, she is amazing! God bless you all! 😇😇😇🛐🛐💕💕
Tom, I'm sorry I missed you at NAB! I'm a big fan of you and your channel--and the new Rode mics on display on the floor. This was my first NAB visit too, and I was (pleasantly) surprised at how strong of a show it was. I've been to a lot of trade shows over the years. The mixture of useful products and education was a great one. Keep up the great work.
Shame we didn't get to see each other, but glad you had a good trip too!
Tom - thank you for this video - I appreciate going beyond the routine!! It is exciting you describe the big picture and how this supported you as a person!! Him
I'm glad you liked it! It was definitely nice to share something a bit different than usual, but something that was still really important to me.
By far my favorite video you've ever made Tom, I love the more talking head, slower paced vibe and just seeing the genuine love for what you do!!!
Thank you! It's fun to explore thoughts on camera and let things formulate in real time.
Definitely going to need to make it next year.
Definitely worth it if you haven't been (and even if you have).
Watching your videos, honestly change my life. A little by little with every single video. And honestly, I am very thankful to you being present on the internet and uploading videos, teaching about audio, sharing information and honestly, just spending your time over here, virtually with us. I have been following you on here for quite a few years and man do I love and appreciate the journey you have been through all this while. I look forward to when your next upload comes, so that I can and watch.
Thanks for spending all that time with me and my videos, it means the world and I'm so glad to know it's been helpful. 🙏
I’m so happy I could finally meet you and the other creators. Thanks Petra
Me too! What a cool experience the whole thing was!
I'll see you there next year! ☘💪🏽👀👍🏽☘
Hope so!
Just an overwhelmingly wholesome, positive, and inspirational video. Well done!
Love the honesty and emotions Tom, you’re one of the few creators who motivated me in starting my channel, I think it was about time I said, ‘I truly thank you, buddy’.
Keep up the great work!!!
This is amazing to hear! I hope you're having a great time with your channel!
Yes mate it’s doing great thanks, check it out if you have time it’s all about audio video and lighting @futureshockstudios
As a creative person who sometimes feels a bit out of place in the world, I really connect with this video! It's such an amazing feeling when you can geek out about equipment and connect with others who also create, build, and have a rich understanding of your world. In short, your genuine passion and dedication to what you do is truly worthwhile. Keep inspiring us, Tom! This video is absolutely fantastic!
Lovely sentiment, Tom. My only regret for now is that I didn't get to go to NAB and see you and many other this year. Hopefully next year!
Thanks Curtis! I would absolutely love to see you there!
It was really cool seeing you hanging out with a lot of those people at NAB… I’m gonna have to make it there one of these years.
I definitely recommend it 100%! We absolutely hope to go again next year.
Im so happy for you that you got to go and have this experience. Honestly couldn’t have happened to a better person and just in general I want to say that I’m so happy to see all the success you’ve had on your channel over the last few years. You bet on yourself and hit the jackpot! What a story!!! Keep up the amazing work brother 👊🏻
Really enjoyed this heart-felt video.
Wow, Tom. Not only this is very brave to share the true feelings, but this also inspires me to rethink my staff. Kudos to you!
I'm really glad it was helpful! All the best to you and your staff!
Great meeting you there! So fun to see your recap video and looking forward to meeting again!
100% I'm so glad we got to meet and chat.
This video made me subscribe. 😂 Your enthusiasm is super wholesome, and I smiled from ear to ear the wntire way through.
This is one of the nicest things I could hear, thank you 🙏
Now I am crying (in a good & connected way)… what a beautiful way to share an experience of belonging and being with your people.
Tom… Thank you for being you…
As with most of your videos, this one was incredibly relevant, entertaining, and fact-filled. I've been in this business for 46 years, and I always seem to learn something from your videos. In fact, you have that "I can learn something new from everyone I talk to" attitude that comes across so well in your videos. Absolutely one of the best NAB recaps I've seen. Keep up the good work!
This is a massive compliment, thank you Craig!
Super awesome you got to go! I saw you waiting to get on the floor on day one. It's great to see the awe over attending. Having been involved in trade shows of all flavors over 30+ years. I always enjoy seeing the joy from attending an event.
Hope you had a good trip! Definitely say hi next time!
So very good to hear that you realize now much your channel is appreciated. Thank you.
Thank you! 🙏
It’s so cool that B&H helped make that happen for you. Well deserved! You provide such great, human and technical advice and perspectives. You give a lot, and I’m glad to know that the pendulum swung your way to return just a fraction of what you give.
Learning and interest from others is tricky. I love your channel and you have shared so much that has helped my endeavors. Why you? Because you are genuine and really do care about the quality and depth of what you do. Thus, the teacher in you shines. Keep up the great content and education. And when it comes to Context remember this. “Seek first to understand, then to be understood” -Stephen R Covey. You rock Tom and are soooooo awesome!!!
That quote is perfectly appropriate here! Than you so much for all the kind words and Im' so glad the channel has been able to be helpful for you. 🙏
Love your work Tom - always love your honesty, and enthusiasm ♥
Going to conferences is like being thrown in a fish tank with the same kind of fish. It feels,... like home, in a way.
Yes! Like a giant school of fish that makes more sense when you see it as a whole.
Tom - Thank You for teaching me to be a better podcaster, editor, and educator! I have enjoyed your channel and podcast for several years now and have learned SO MUCH! It's so great when you find your people!
Thank you so much Julie- I really appreciate the longtime support 🙏
Warmest greatings from Poland! I've designed my whole YT & streaming studio following your reviews and advices (and ended up with Sennheiser MKH 50 as a mic of my choice after trying like a dozen) and I've recommended your channel to all Polish CCs seeking trustworthy sources covering these topics. My university job made it harder to learn everything from scratch in my spare time (cause there is little to no spare time 😅) so without your work what I managed to achieve would've been near impossible in such short period of time.
Thank you!
Awesome! Trade shows like NAB is how we (over 50 creatives) networked and learned before the internet came along. It's a wonderful experience that's returning.
I'm glad it's still around!
That was absolutely beautiful, Tom. Glad to be able to see this journey of yours
Thanks for being part of this journey Nate!
It was so wonderful to finally meet you and chat over some soggy bok choy. Thank you for all that you do.
It's a little more green and crisp when we cook it at home 😅
😂
I totally agree with all of this! It was my first year going too and I was just blown away by everything. I was here Monday through Wednesday and still didnt get to see every vendor. The place was MASSIVE! But well well worth it ❤
I'm bummed we didn't get to stay through Wednesday, but so glad for every minute we got!
@@tombuck definitely recommended next year if you can make it! A lot less people on the floor and companies are eager to give away a lot of left over swag 😂 but also they have more time for deeper talks/interviews.
Great video. sounds like it's time to make sure B&H get you to NAB New York for more meetups - and floor walks of the B&H showroom are always interesting.
Wonderful - thanks so much for sharing your trip to NAB. I went to my first one in 1988 - two more after that. So much has changed.
Nice Tom. Such a wonderful and heartfelt haymaker at the end about being a person being "misunderstood." Thanks man.
"Heartfelt Haymaker" should be my WWE wrestling name. 😁
Thank you for sharing your experience and for all that you do! 👏
Thank YOU! 🙏
Tom-
Your video here made me realize that your group of UA-camrs are the professionals that really help the creators refine the quality of their videos.
I always find your videos to be more informative, in-depth, high-quality reviews… and also humble while still entertaining.
Not just your “basic talking head UA-cam video” that everyone seems to usually “produce.”
Thanks for making Audio-Visual… today it’s Media Professionals… a more important, VISIBLE kind of work, because it is.
👍😎👍
Thank you for such kind words! It really means a lot to hear this and to know that you've been able to find that channel helpful.
Just: wow. I did not expect that deeply moving and very *human* turn. One of the things I love about your channel is your willingness to be yourself (cue Heather's groan at your pun 6:12). I'm glad you have found your authentic context, and glad for the help you've given others to find theirs.
Wow that was so beautiful- thank you so much for sharing that. You have created a wonderful space and you should be very proud of what you have achieved already
Thank you! It's definitely a strange/wonderful thing to see the "real" effects of things we make and share online.
@@tombuck it’s inspiring Tom. I’ve been be overthinking everything and haven’t picked up a camera to make a video in months. Believe it or not your content / pods have really given me a push to do something
I can tell you have been amazed with the event! I joined a Photo and Video show in United Kingdom and I was soooo overwhelmed with the amount of kit they had. I felt like a kid at a lego shop haha
Oh my gosh, it was insane! I can't wait for next year.
So happy for you… good job B n H! I juts wish I had been there to see you experience it because you touch people!
So grateful to them for helping to make this happen. Really relieved a lot of travel stress.
@@tombuck One day we will
Meet up at NAB!
Keep doin you G !!
Tom, this video moved me soo much while watching the whole thing!
It started of with all the enthusiasm of your tech space and got to a very deep personal and emotional level, which I can really relate to, since I’m a relative silent person. Thank you so much for sharing and opening up! I’m so glad I joined Heather and you on the Couples table and the YT huddle up + listening to you in the background via your podcast. I said that many times and I might sound like a broken record, but both of you are main persons who helped me stick to my YT journey although life happens with all the ups and downs. Thank you!
Are you saying you're a bit...introverted? 😉
This really means a lot to hear, and it's funny because I've always thought of myself as quiet and introverted, but Iately (both at things like NAB and at home with our hockey teams and stuff) I've had almost constant interaction with people and don't feel drained the way I would normally expect. I think it turns out that it just depends on WHO you're around. Who'da thunk?
Tom, as I read the genuine comments from your viewers, it seems to me you give us context and joy with each of your videos filled with your wisdom. Thank you!
It's been a bit overwhelming (in the best way) to go through these comments. 🙏
Beautiful, Tom. Thank YOU.
Bless you Tom. A really enjoying and touching video that I feel help viewers connect with you much closer. I had toyed with vlogging for years and would love to start something different and being real is clearly the key! My favourite line from the Muppets Christmas Carol is 'Thank you for not shouting at us Mr Scrooge'. Catie
It's a genuine gem of a movie 😁
But yes, if you have the itch to try and start something, it's definitely worth it!
Thanks@@tombuck. I've just spent the evening at the Podcasting Made Simple Live conference by PodMatch. I would like to restart my podcast too but creating content for a vlog would be nice to do too as a hands-on broadcast/podcast producer reflecting on my experiences along the way of producing my podcast(s). Catie
Who else needs a hug right now watching the last bit of this video? Thanks for bringing honesty and authenticity to all of us. Much love! 💕
Great video, Tom! I've been going to the NAB show off and on for some 30-ish years now. You captured the passion and vibe I have always gotten from walking until my feet ache for three jam-packed days each year. Thanks for everything you do to share your passion for content creation, and the gear that supports those efforts--on all levels. Sorry I didn't get the chance to meet you in person, but keep on keeping on!
Oh there's definitely some physical pain, but the spirit is still strong! 😁
Hopefully we can see each other next year!
Thanks for sharing your experience. Glad you were able to talk to and hang out with so many passionate people.
And love the Muppet Christmas Carol reference. It's the best adaptation. 😆
It really is the best one.
Thanks for helping to make NAB so great!
"the convention in the hallways" is referred to as "the hallway track" at tech conventions (where a "track" is the number of talks being held at any given moment).
Ahh, good to know!
Bravo! Simply bravo! With your permission, I did a post on this, cause the human factor is something WE must NEVER lose! 😇😇😇😇😇
That means a lot to me, thank you for wanted to post about it!
Is the least I can do! Spread the word of wisdom! Thank you! God bless you and your family!
uNABlievable video. Thanks for all the cool stuff you share! 🌟
What a beautiful video! It's emotionally intelligent. Thanks for sharing.
Really happy you enjoyed it 🙏
Great Video.Real Talk
I found my crowd too (ham radio nerds). To the general public they're niche and a bit eccentric, but nothing drives home the community like face-to-face interaction, which we experience at hamfest conventions. This video resonates so much.
This is awesome. My grandpa was a ham radio operator when I was a kid and I always loved checking out his gear.
Love it ❤️
Tom: you made me feel like I was there at NAB with you. I could feel your excitement, which made me feel excited. Great video. Thanks for making my day better. 😎
the delight I can't Describe ~ seeing you Vibe with the Tribe... 🎉
You're the best, Tom! 💯
