Considering the Montreaux Convention doesn't cover just the Bosporus but also the Dardanelles, the most a man-made canal parallel to the former could do was potentially allow more than nine warships to transit at a time, at least through that specific spot. Still doesn't solve the general issue of transit, and it's unlikely that way more than nine warships could realistically be dispatched in the first place due to the logistics of crossing the straits. Then you also have the issue of draft and displacement; if supercontainer carriers can't cross the proposed Istanbul Canal, would larger warships be able to?

"many soldiers did Daesh actually have" 2,000-6,000 "e, how many people lived under it's rule" At the least? 20,000 people "how did the economy function" Selling oil and Ancient Artifacts on the Black market. Drug Making and selling and smuggling and gun making and selling and smuggling. ", who were the actual people in charge of the government and military" Ex-Governors/Commanders of Saddam's Baath party. " what battles turned the tides on Daesh?" There was no battle, it just took the combined pressure from Syrian and Iraqi Muslims with Coalition Airstrikes that pushed them back.

Turkey can not prevent any ship to pass through Bosphorus without any fee. But the sea traffic is already a problem and most of the vessels are already waiting for hours (sometime days) on the line to pass. Turkish government can easily restrict the passages because of the traffic. Commercial ships will (most probably) prefer paying the bill for the cannal instead of waiting on the line for days.
Osman Oglu You do realize that you already HAVE a free natural canal right ? Why would ANY ship want to PAY to go through this man made canal ? Bosporus is literally free. Would you rather pay 50$ for a road that has no traffic or not pay for a road that has traffic ? The answer is simple. Suez and Panama canals were built because they literally split two continents allowing ships to travel through the continents instead of going around them. What Erdogan wants to do is create a 2nd canal for no apparent reason.
Michael Scofield for money dude, he can just tax the istanbul canal. While filling the bosphorus with traffic, basically you wait a day or you go through the istanbul canal.
honestly I was a little confused that building a canal so close to a major waterway (the Bosporus Strait) was a good idea. But apparently ships in the strait crash often and the waterway is polluted due to over use. It's nice to learn new things every once in a while, thank you!
Very interesting and informative. Wonderful video, and as usual, great editing. Turkey unfortunately isn't doing well these days in the markets. The lira is near death.
Cihat Keles You have not been paying to the markets or the business and economic reports as of late. Get informed before you post foolishness. The lira being 6.88% is a bad thing since it just fell by alot in comparison to the U.S. dollar; it fell 10% in the latest reports out of the Asian markets. Among other things, including sanctions, they're not doing well financially. This video alone illustrates that, and pretty much all the updated international news reports as of today are reporting the troubles they're in. Even investors are concerned. Apparently only you and Erdogan, after he doubled down yesterday, believes all is good. Lol

@@denizforst not really, there are international organisations protecting artefacts and heritage. You can't just destroy arts even if it was made by an occupying powers. All these construction and infrastructure initiatives led in Asia are on a stupefying scale! Projects Neom, Belt&Road, Tokyo Olympics, and more. Some already completed, only just, and already on their way to obsolescence. This will be the future in the next two centuries - massive constructions, spanning continents! Sea of Marmara is a unique sea. Its structure is very different than all other seas. A canal will ruin Marmara. It will flood Marmara with organic rich water of Black Sea. This will leave Marmara with less oxygen each year. Finally, Marmara will eventually stink in the following years. Whenever there is a southwester wind, the people of Istanbul will suffer the rotten smell. After Erdogan dies, people who breathe the rotten egg smell will commemorate him in "lovely words".
I think the Istanbul Canal will be a boon for world shipping. Keep this canal for one way passage into or out of Black Sea, while keeping the Bosphorus for the opposite passage. The use of both waterways will keep sea traffic moving without hinderance.
No turkey is building this for economic reasons, so they can make the normal Bosporus straight take so long to go through that your only real option would be to take the canal, which unlike the straight they can take and make a profit.

Also, since you are better informed than most of us, perhaps you could give us some actual facts (instead of MSM propaganda we are bombarded with on a daily basis) in regards to how many soldiers did ISIS actually have, how many people lived under it's rule, how did the economy function, who were the actual people in charge of the government and military, what battles turned the tides on ISIS and how etc. etc.
Please upvote if you agree, so Shirvan can see this!
Бајомир absolutely
"many soldiers did Daesh actually have"
2,000-6,000
"e, how many people lived under it's rule"
At the least? 20,000 people
"how did the economy function"
Selling oil and Ancient Artifacts on the Black market. Drug Making and selling and smuggling and gun making and selling and smuggling.
", who were the actual people in charge of the government and military"
Ex-Governors/Commanders of Saddam's Baath party.
" what battles turned the tides on Daesh?"
There was no battle, it just took the combined pressure from Syrian and Iraqi Muslims with Coalition Airstrikes that pushed them back.
Your Average Imperial Guard coalition airforce was joke, syria just used tanks more that was how they retook.
Great Idea! The decline of ISIS and especially how no one cares about them in the West anymore is so fascinating yet disturbing and sad.
my name is my name that is what RT says. In fact, Syria did bulk of job.

That canal is Turkey decision. Also it will develop the town. Not to mention that it is a good defensive line against an attack on Turkey from Greece or Bulgaria.

Yeah, but mega projects almost never make financial sense. And the money would be better used elsewhere.

so stupid when people say rebuilding ottoman imperial when you have better healtcare system and almost none homeless in Turkey comparing USA and other developed countries.

In Turkey people take care of each other or Family members .they dont send their elders to retiring houses .
if you pay for your retirement or have a basic insurance through your company you work you would be covered including dental care and l bilieve you only pay half or less for the prescription drugs.
l felt so bad in USA to see elders over 65 still working that they can pay their medical bills and homeless everwhere .
Less in Canada and free medical care is better than USA .

Millions of tourists visit Turkey every year, a few cases of crime will inevitably happen but that's it. Being a tourist in Turkey is probably safer than being a tourist in US.
Kurds living im camps? Now that's rich. Turkey has more Kurds than the rest of the world, yes there are some problems but not like China level detentions or camps. In fact we had and still have Kurdish government officials. One became the prime minister back in 80's. Only Kurds living in camps are refugees from Syria, who we are currently looking after with our tax money because every other country turned them away. The EU, who supposedly cares about Kurds won't let them in.

It'd be interesting if you'd be able to make a report on the Geoconomics of the Bermejo Canal (a Canal project dating 1853 in northern part of Argentina). IMO, it would made the entire geopolitics of south America shift
Also, on the same area, the Geoeconomics of the Paraná Medio Dam (would be one of the most important infraestructure projects in South America)

And yet it would take years to these bill's to cover the cost of the canal.
Awesome report.
As a Turk I would fully support this project if the funding for it doesnt come from social funds. The people of Turkey would suffer paying this.
Osman Oglu Wtf? did you know that you had to pay 102₺ to go across the 3.bridge that was built in istanbul by erdogan?
Osman Oglu you are blinded by nationalism dude... People are more important than the state
Osman Oglu
You do realize that you already HAVE a free natural canal right ?
Why would ANY ship want to PAY to go through this man made canal ?
Bosporus is literally free.
Would you rather pay 50$ for a road that has no traffic or not pay for a road that has traffic ?
The answer is simple.
Suez and Panama canals were built because they literally split two continents allowing ships to travel through the continents instead of going around them.
What Erdogan wants to do is create a 2nd canal for no apparent reason.
Michael Scofield for money dude, he can just tax the istanbul canal. While filling the bosphorus with traffic, basically you wait a day or you go through the istanbul canal.
nikola 1809
But why would people pay the tax when they can go to Bosporus for free ?
Its free !
honestly I was a little confused that building a canal so close to a major waterway (the Bosporus Strait) was a good idea. But apparently ships in the strait crash often and the waterway is polluted due to over use. It's nice to learn new things every once in a while, thank you!
Do u know How many crash happened in the last 10 years?

Very interesting and informative. Wonderful video, and as usual, great editing. Turkey unfortunately isn't doing well these days in the markets. The lira is near death.
Wendell
1dolar= 8 yuan = 7 lira = 67 ruple
Lira is death ? Think again...
Lol

Let the triggering begin.
