- The Jan. 6 committee revealed details of an “unhinged” late night meeting at the White House with Donald Trump’s outside lawyers suggesting the military seize state voting machines in a last-ditch effort to pursue his false claims of voter fraud before the defeated president summoned a mob to the U.S. Capitol.
Good on these men for coming and talking to the committee.

So Ayres said that he's a family man and works as a supervisor which takes up a lot of his free time. And basically the remainder is spent playing basketball, camping, and playing games with his son. So where did find the time to sit in front of the computer and follow many social media platforms. Seems like a fellow with tunnel vision that was focused only on the disinformation and negativity that was put out by many of the social media groups. End of the day there's 2 sides to everything, he said that he was such a hardcore media follower but obviously he didn't look at the facts and see the big picture. This fellows a typical example of the quality of people that Trump has raised and used to support him, but heh it was his choice.
Like many of these supporters, they were made to feel like a community fighting the enemy. All instigated by Frump and reinforced by his right wing backers and henchmen. He may be testifying as part of a deal to get a lighter sentence. He mentioned that the Oath Keepers and other groups might have done a lot more violence on Jan 6, but I didn't really hear much remorse for his being part of that attempted coup. Real remorse would sound like, "We could have caused much more damage that day and I am truly sorry I was part of that... and will do all that I can to prevent it from happening again." I didn't hear those words from him.

The time to talk about his remorse was during his criminal trial, if there was one. He's not on trial here.
As Americans, we all must die daily and struggle to live under a system designed to grind the everyday man down. As humans, we are never satisfied. We must continue to push against the foolishness we encounter and become better people. I commend both men for their candor and seeming honesty. No one is perfect.
This wasn't a trial. They were sharing their experiences. They were told to answer questions, not make remorseful statements. I don't remember the committee asking for statements about their guilt and/or how sorry they are? One of them said that day changed his life and not in a good way. He was fired from his job, he is no longer on social media, he doesn't believe trumps lies anymore, etc. I heard the former Oath Keeper guy say, people lost their lives that day, there was greater potential for a lot worse, that he was scared if he got reelected, what could happen to our country, all bets are off, etc. That sounded a lot like remorse and self awareness to me. But that wasn't the point of this committee hearing. They volunteered to be there to answer questions based on their own experiences. That's what they did.
I don't think he was even at the Capitol on Jan 6, 2021. He is testifying to his knowledge of the Oath Keeper because he used to work for them. He quit the group back in 2017. The guy that was storming the Capitol on Jan 6th was Ayres.

The Oath keepers are supposed to be military and police, former and current. Stuart Rohdes may have made the mistake of thinking he was a milita leader. The organization originally was about reasserting your oath to the constitution over party or leaders. Somewhere along the way their leader Stuart Rohdes made the decision to be an active force for countering what he saw as government overreach I.e. Bundy ranch. That was a bad call.

In the days and weeks after the riot, five police officers who had served at the Capitol on Jan. 6 died.
Officer Brian D. Sicknick was attacked by the mob, died on Jan. 7.
Officer Jeffrey Smith killed himself after the attack.
Officer Howard S. Liebengood also died by suicide four days afterward.
The Capitol Police had previously said that Officer Sicknick died from injuries sustained “while physically engaging with protesters.” The Washington medical examiner later ruled that he had died of natural causes: multiple strokes that occurred hours after Officer Sicknick’s confrontation with the mob. The medical examiner added, however, that “all that transpired played a role in his condition.”
A bipartisan Senate report, released in June, found that the seven deaths were connected to the Capitol attack. But the report was issued a month before two Metropolitan Police officers - Gunther Hashida and Kyle DeFreytag - died by suicide in July.

It wasn't just about what Trump said, it was also the hand full of people that spoke before him saying thing like you have to fight, trial by combat, etc. Theses are all chosen representatives by & for Trump that said things Trump wanted to say, but felt like he couldn't. They were all his mouthpieces that day and the crowd was told over & over to fight for country, fight for the election, fight for your freedom, blah,blah,etc and do whatever it takes. Just to further my point. Trump didn't bother to send the tweet or make the video until several hours after they all broke in & had beaten the capital police and trashed the capital, etc. He let things continue for hours before he did anything to stop it. This is exactly what he wanted & hoped would happen.

I don't blame them either. How is that out numbered officer going to prevent thousands of angry people pushing their way in? They were smart enough to know they couldn't stop these animals, so they got out of the way. They watched the other officers being beat, the mob breaking windows/doors, throwing things, spraying mace/bear spray, among other things, to force their way in. If I'm not mistaken, those officers that stepped aside were fired too? That doesn't mean these people had permission to be there and shouldn't be held responsible for their actions. They had no right to enter the premises. vandalize the capital, destroy things, break into offices, trash the offices/building, steal government property, rub feces all over the walls, all to try to stop the election certification. They also were try to find & harm the vice president or other gov officials they disagreed with. This mob either purposely or inadvertently caused the death of several people. They had every intention of harming Mike Pence or any other Democrat they could find. They broke down doors, trashed their offices, stole things, and caused thousands of dollars worth of damage. So your argument of "they were let in" , is irrelevant & doesn't really matter in the big picture. You are trying to justify their despicable behavior and there is none. Many came fully armed and others had explosives. You don't bring those things unless you intend to use them. They entered unlawfully, with the intent to do damage. People lost their lives because of their actions.
