Shit’s been weird since Bowie died.
And Kobe
which is pretty strange, considering how strange he was lol
@@ohioagainsttheworld676 He was the glue holding the space-time continuum together.
Amen.
And Neil. And Eddie. And hopefully soon, Donald. (what, too soon?) lol
God, I wish I could have EVER met a woman with my intense appreciation of all music. Your vids are an inspiration and hope for humanity. Music transcends everything else. At 73, I am glad I lived to see this. Thank you much for your energy and passion.
Do 'Life On Mars' next.
I love that weird song
Ooooh he looks awesome in that video!😃
My top 1 favorite song go for it
David Bowie is here as his alter-ego
Ziggy Stardust
Honky Dory is just as good
You got it. It's an avant-garde masterpiece. First released in 1969 it was inspired by Kubrick's Space Odyssey and the Apollo missions.
I was still in primary school back then but that song resonated in my head since I first heard it.
Also check out Bowie's Life on Mars.
What gives this song an otherworldly feel is the mellotron, a keyboard instrument that sounded like a string section, albeit with a sour tone. Rick Wakeman played the mellotron here. He would famously go on the be the keyboardist for the rock group Yes.
This was released in 1969. The same year as the moon landing. It was inspired by that and the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey."
The song yes. This video is from 1972.
Bowie could have composed it earlier. It is said that Stanley Kubrick asked him to write a song in order to use it in the beginning of his new film. Kubrick finally decided to take the Waltz Blue Danube of Strauss, but the intro scene was filmed and edited originally with the music of David Bowie. ua-cam.com/video/yABM_1ssTj4/v-deo.html
@@ottocarson interesting!
The FAKE moon landing?
@@69zenos1 You're an imbecile if you think they could've faked something like that back in the sixties.
My sister turned me on to Bowie circa 1981ish (I was 12.) One of the first things I noticed about him was he was often his OWN back-up singer. His voice overs are incredible.
Trippy is definitely the right word to describe Bowie, makes me feel old but amazing watching a younger generation discovering older music.
Check out "Ashes To Ashes". Bowie mentioned Major Tom again.
Lucifer Sam major Tom was Bowie’s alter ego....and yeah great song
@@sst3d No it wasnt Major Tom was what he called his Action Man toy as a kid
@@sst3d Ziggy Stardust was his alter ego
Anthony Mc Cusker Ziggy Stardust was Hendrix...jamming good with weird and gully....he played it left hand but made to far...etc. That’s an ode to Hendrix
Lady Stardust was Tommy Bolin.......
Bowie was always Major Tom....check out his final act....the play he wrote ...
@@sst3d I actually met David a few times and Ziggy was his alter ego he took on in homage to a 50s rocker called Vincent i think he was called . He has said Major Tom WAS what he called his childhood action man toy
The harmony is by guitarist Mick Ronson I believe. Eargasm - accurate description girl.
Just an utter masterpiece and lightyears ahead of it's time
Bowie was a genius. So much of his music is brilliant. We were blessed with him, Pink Floyd, Queen and others all at the same time! Late 60’s and 70’s produced music that will be timeless
You are so adorable! I love young people so willing to expand their musical experiences.
If you're goin' with Bowie... "The Man Who Sold The World" will freak you out!!!
I think you'll like his "Fashion", guitar is insane. He rocks on "Suffragette City" and "Changes" too
Guitarist on Fashion was GE Smith. The guy who used to head up the SNL band from '85 to '95.
The Man Who Sold The World album is his most rocking album and Mick Ronson was superb on that, check out the whole album.
@@sjd5750 Robert Fripp, Carlos Alomar played guitar on Fashion. Check wikipedia and songfacts. GE Smith appeared in the video.
@@surlechapeau Wow!..That's crazy!..did not know that. I just assumed it was Smith, because of the video..Kind of weird that he'd be in the video..Thanks for the info.
@@sjd5750 It is definitely weird. You're welcome
This song came about during the space race. David saw the film 2001: A Space Odyssey while high and this song came out of it. It was released in a shortened version 10 days before the Apollo 11 moon landing. Major Tom is a fictional character that David also wrote into songs like Ashes to Ashes and Hallo Spaceboy, and the music video for Blackstar.
Watching your joy in his music was something else. You made me smile and laugh. Bowie was an extraordinary musician and composer on top of his performing talent.
Everybody in the world loves ar least one David Bowie song. This is a unique artist,
Fantastic reaction! I've heard this
song a million times but
you somehow brought out new sounds I never noticed before. Excellent!
Life on Mars, please. The live version with him in his blue suit. Starman, too!
David Bowie was from another planet. Had to be...
💜
The mellotron was played by Rick Wakeman, who ended up as the keyboard player in Yes for almost all of their classic albums. He also plays piano on Life On Mars.
OMG how have I listened to this for over 50 years, and not know that Wakeman was on this track? I'm stunned...learnin' every day...
The story goes that Tony Visconti got him the gig because he knew how to keep the mellotron from going out of tune.
Top notch arrangement and production. Turning a folk song into Sonic Pop Art!
Wakeman was doing sessions when he was still at school and left music college because he was getting so much work. He was a very good sight reader and was known as one take Wakeman because he was accurate.
Apparently Bowie offered him the gig with Spiders from Mars on the same day he accepted the job with Yes.
I know! Can you imagine him in makeup and 6-inch platform shoes?
The next episode in the Major Tom saga:
Ashes To Ashes (1980)
A monster hit and another weird eargasm.
And maybe even Blackstar is the finale
@@danmcconnell5941 There's Hallo Spaceboy (1995) as well.
I 100% agree with you. Next song : Ashes to Ashes
If you go to Ashes to Ashes (great song!) then you might want to check out Peter Shillings 80’s hit “Major Tom” inspired by David Bowie’s character Major Tom from the songs a Space Oddity and Ashes to Ashes.
I would recommend "Rebel Rebel", another classic Bowie song you don't want to miss. Great reaction!
"Golden Years" next please!
In the 70s, before the shuttle disasters. Nobody's been lost in space - yet. But when someone is, there'll already be a song abt it.
You are a sweetheart. Give a go black stars lasaraus his last album before knowing he's dead soon. It'll make you cry. I still think your on something as I said a couple of months ago love from UK
Great video, well done! This was his first hit back in 1969.
You should watch "The Man That Fell To Earth" starring Bowie as an alien...AWESOME!
You pretty much have to do “Ashes to Ashes” now. The continuing story of Major Tom. Huge hit.
David Bowie was out of this world!!!😉👌✌️👍😁
His spirit is leaving his body. He's mind (ground control) talking to his conscience (spirt) as he dies and looses contact.
Try "I'm Afraid of Americans" for a completely different Bowie, just as amazing but different. A modern Bowie, produced by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. Amazing song.
This was released literally 5 days before the Apollo 11 mission was launched, so landing on the moon was still about a week away, but it was about to happen, so this was extremely topical.
I watched this as a teenager on American Banstand... Davis Bowie has other great songs ....Fame..Young Americans and more bringing me way back to my growing up days....
It was based on the movie 2001 a Space Oddisity. Which David said he viewed Several Times High... It's a very trippy Flick Glad to see you liked this Song....
Welcome to the British 1960s Luv x
Absolutely love watching you groove to a killer piece
The instrruments include a tiny battery toy keyboard called “a Stylophone”
His Concerts were Unforgettable 🎤🗣
His first hit! He made this for the Moon Landing that happened about 1 week later after this came out in '69!
This is the second video made for this. The first was 1969. This is 1972 when he broke big as Ziggy Stardust, hence the hair.
Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
I have read every suggestion in the comments and all of them are so good it makes me want to go on a Bowie binge. You can’t go wrong with any of these suggestions.
When they first really got into stereo, many artists really explored the space. Bowie did it very well. Eargasm indeed!
His wife of over 20 years was the queen in the Michael Jackson music video "Remember The Time"
That is the most genuine reaction of any music I've ever seen. I think you might also like his older stuff as well, like 'Slow Burn' or 'Little Wonder'
Moonage Daydream is trippy as hell
Another Bowie funky jam is “Golden Years”
he wrote this for 1969 moon landing. Thanks I haven't listened to this in years. I enjoyed your response to this
The man was a genius composer and way before his time
I love how trippy this song is! If you want another, but very different, example of how Bowie layered music, try "Let's Dance". The guest lead guitarist was none other than Stevie Ray Vaughan!
Have you done much Pink Floyd? An early album called Ooma Gooma had some trippy music.
One song in particular called
"several species of small furry animals gathered together in a cave and grooving with a pict".
David Bowie was a genius. RIP
The inspiration for the song was 2001 A Space Odyssey and was recorded before the moon landing.
Golden years is a must! 💓💓
I love Space Oddity! It was the first pop song I heard when I was a little boy! Bowie is just so brilliant! A music legend! 🙂🌞🌻🙏
Apparently Ground Control really said at take off of Apollo 11 "May God's Love Be With You". Really confidence boosting stuff. Welcome to the world of David Bowie. Life on Mars, Official video is one you might try for another reaction. ❤
He had seen "2001 a Space Odyssey" & inspired by this, wrote "Space Oddity" - but with a twist: Rather than the astronaut being trapped in space by his computer, Bowie expressed his own sense of alienation & had the character of the song "Major Tom", turn off communications & strand himself in space.
The mind if a creative musical genius just doing it's thing. Brilliant song. Please do his follow up to this Ashes to Ashes.
Omg! You're reaction is fantastic! You are obviously digging this classic and I think that's great. Keep up the good work! And thank you for you're eclectic choices!
Great reaction. Lots of emotion. Bowie was one of the all time bests and the best artists played with him because of it.
I always read this song as statement on our personal insignificance and inability to affect the chaos of the world. Gaining the perspective of the vastness of space Maj. Tom becomes addicted to the peace and decides to remain out there instead of returning. "Thank you wife, but your consolations aren't enough." LOL.
LOL bell rings us by now! Endless Love Scribe!!!
Everyone keep saying a lot of suggestions, all I can say is, you got a play Ziggy Stardust
Ziggy played guitar.
@@jamessomers8808 Jamming good with Weird and Gilly,
@@mayaenglish5424 and the spiders from Mars...
Yesssss..tis where I began and not looked back since. The greatest genius that ever lived...literally
@@BoudicaJ I'm sorry sir/ ma'am, though your statement is indeed the truth, the correct next comment is actually:
"He played it left hand"
Try Let’s Dance, Modern Love, China Girl
This song always reminds me of a spring break me and 2 buddies went to in the early 70's. Trust me we were floating in our tin can right there with Bowie!
Great Reaction! You looked overwhelmed at the end of that epic experience haha, The song was released on 11th July 1969 just 5 days before the Moon Landing on the 16th of July :) THe video is from 1972. I know EXACTLY where I was when I first heard this that year. I was a Working Class lad from South East London who, luckily, went to a Grammar School and became friends with a Middle-Class Guy and we were all playing Board games on the floor in his parent's house in Clapham S W London and this came on :) FUN FACT: Only (then ) Session Musician: Rick Wakeman knew how to use and control THe "Mellotron" so he got all the Session work at the time. He then joined YES, .the rest is history!
The late great guitarist Mick Ronson doing backup vocals
I just recently found Aurora-- Life on Mars(David Bowie cover) ...it is awesome! David would be very very impressed.
David Bowie is singing back ground as well
Fashion is great. So is Stay, and also Young Americans. Jump is good later Bowie.
My fav David Bowie song!
Ziggy Stardust, Starman, and Under Pressure with Queen are all tip top from Mr Bowie. Under Pressure is one you cannot miss tho.
Starman was a great hit for Bowie and us of course. Have a listen! 🙂
First rock song ever played in space
Girl, you brought a smile to my old face!
He was at his greatest when he hooked up with Lead Guitarist, Mick Ronson.
There're many reasons David Bowie was a living legend...this is one. GREAT reaction! First time on your channel: won't be the last! Wonderfully articulate, not hard to look at ( :D ) and your comments are spot-on. Great job! New fan!!
If nobody has mentioned them, you need to do a reaction to Type O Negative "Black No. 1" and Peter Steele, who, unfortunately, like Bowie, is no longer with us.
Most recording back then were to specifically recorded onto the LP to divide sound into channels for the headphone effects that you are experiencing
Ok, I'll admit it. I'm not even normal for a Bowie fan. I'd like to see you react to "All the Madmen" or "Scary Monsters."
Bowie's eyes are different colors. I believe he was punched when he was young and it blew out his retina. Oh, and if you have not done it yet, rebel rebel and ch ch ch changes
I think you’ll enjoy his song starman which was one of his first hits on top of the pops
This songs still blows your mind today. I can’t imagine what it was like to hear it come out back in the day. It must’ve exploded minds! Haha
One just floated listening to this it was so beautiful. So much music going on, great times growing up then.
David Bowie was so space out.
I LOVE this song. Have for a VERY long time.
This was decades before we had the space crashes
Best reaction to Bowie I've ever seen. Much love to you.
He took it to that next level!
I absolutely love watching you discovering this music...It energizes it anew for me, even though I've heard this song so many times in the decades since that first time, back when I was in junior high (Yeah, I'm in my 60's now). Credit to you also for being willing to show yourself *feeling* the music, and sharing with complete strangers. That takes some nerve and possession. Brava...
One of the greatest rock lyrics of all time:
"Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can do...."
David Bowie, Starman!
You should check out Chris Hatfields version of this song. Done with Bowie's permission. Chris was an astronaut on the International Space Station and he filled all the sequences there and same and played the song himself.
Great reaction to an absolute musical genius
You have a soul girl....that's for sure.
I've always like the military tat-tat that the drums have in beginning.
Yes, haven't listened to this song in a minute, always reminds me of Adam Sandler's Mr Deeds.
Thanks for that.
I have known that song for 51 years. When you her something from when you are 6 you stop really listening to it.
Your reaction made me hear this superb song again. Thanks and best wishes.
what a great original song i was there with you all the way. so happy right now. cheers
I was young when this song came out. I loved it but it would make me cry. His loneliness is so complete.
this song originally cam out 1969 during the Apollo 11 moon landing which made his famous
Although it was released during the moonlanding era, this song was notorious for being the metaphor of an overdose, or at least a (bad) trip.
Especially with Major Tom being refered, in later Bowie songs, as a junkie.
