People keep mentioning how the jaguar x-type is based on the mondeo... as if the audi a4 is not based on a passat or the acuras not based on hondas, lexus on toyotas, infinitis on nissans etc... get over it
The Prius actually has an e-CVT transmission, which in reality is a planetary gear set. There are no actual gears - and no mechanical reverse gear either. Electric motors carry out reversing function. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the Prius e-CVT. Despite its name, it is NOT a real CVT transmission, but much more superior. Completely step less transmission. Drive is selected with an electronic joystick! The vehicle is practically drive by wire! Finally, this thing was heavily over engineered, so much so, there’s still tens of thousands of the humpbacked buggers all over the world, silently slinking around like indestructible Ninja’s that just won’t die. Controversial? Yes. Boring? Absolutely (Especially the over engineered Gen II) Nasty to drive? Nay, not so. It’s a vehicle from the future, so of course it was going to feel different - it’s no race car, but Uber and minicab drivers - and millions of discerning motorists on a budget swear by them. Mine is 12 years old, but still rides like new on the original hybrid drivetrain and HV battery. 126k miles so far. Daily commuter. I won’t drive anything else! Did I mention Toyota over engineered the Gen II Prius model? 😃👍
Any Mercedes from the early 2000s. The fact that Chrysler bought 70% of the company in 1998, the overall build quality that was "missing" almost killed in reputation a good company. Nowadays all Mercedes from the early 2000s are considered some of the best and nicest cars that ever came out. But back then they were questionable. Even Motoring Journalist Jeremy Clarkson criticized the CLS AMG just because of the reliability

The Prius is honestly a very hated car for not very much reason. The Prius is the OG hybrid eco car. People that buy it do so because it gets over 50 mpg and is extremely reliable for a hybrid. Car people freak out about the CVT even though the ones that don't pretend to be an automatic, are much better than automatics for fuel economy and acceleration.

However, they have the Panamera and the Taycan sedans and they predicted correctly that SUVs would boom in popularity. The Cayenne is, for an SUV, superb in the handling department. Plus, Porsche making a shitbox is basically Porsche making their own version of the VW Polo.

In terms of ride and handling, the Mondeo of the X - type era was market leading. Shame people buy a German badge instead. Mondeo handling with a posh badge should have been dominant. Much better looking than a 3 series or C Class

You mean your Dad drives it slow? They’re NOT slow vehicles, but do get driven slowly by drivers who erroneously believe they’re saving fuel that way (they’re not!). I commute in my 12 year old one daily - and I leave other motorists behind, most of the time, on the way to work. You get very responsive acceleration from the 67hp electric motors working in tandem with the 76hp engine. Performs like a 2.2 litre vehicle IF you put your foot down - most Prius drivers won’t do that, because it’s very quiet and smooth when driven slowly (and they want to save fuel) - but that’s entirely driver choice, not a slow car.
