I think it’s good. The weirdest part about being a combat veteran is that people will either treat you like a hero or a villain, when in reality all you want them to know is just what it feels like. Combat feels like what id imagine playing in the Super Bowl does with how much pressure is on you. - what I wish people could understand is how insanely fucking scared you are-it’s a fear that just injects itself right into your bones and paralyzes you, and all the concussion from gunshots or rockets just makes you want to burrow yourself into the dirt like a mole and hide from all of it. - I can’t speak for other vets but it’s not about being seen as a tough guy or a hero or a “real man”, I just want the average person to understand what it feels like to be in so much fear that it transports your mind to a different place and you rely on your bros heavily that I feel more of a connection to the dudes I didn’t even like on my deployment than I do my own blood.
I am super hyped for this dude. The one thing about combat is that many times you feel like you are in a dream, you feel like you're viewing yourself in third person and you're floating through the situation and are running on pure animal instinct and training. It differs from person to person honestly. But the fear is with you, either in the situation or for some people it comes later and you end up vomiting and some people even piss themselves without knowing. Its a pure adrenaline rush and usually in that moment you just shut down and roll through.

My brother was in Afghanistan years ago. He was issued a M249 SAW. He told me that once, dyring a firefight, a kid about 10 years old ran around a corner right at my brother, holding an AK47 and the SAW "turned him into swiss cheese". Later on in his deployment the US air force dropped bombs on a couple of his squad mates: Justin Clause and Aaron Toppen. My brother was supposed to go with them but his equipment failed, so Aaron took his place. My brother was a totally different person when he came home.
