    I speak English with my 5-year-old son since he was born. It's amazing. He knows a lot. I've noticed, though, that I can't force that much and I need to respect his Portuguese learning process too. In a nutshell, I play with him in English, we watch Peppa Pig in English, do domestic tasks in English and that's it. And, of course, I mixture it with Portuguese, our first language and our main bound.

    My son learned English by himself by watching a lot of you tube video's during covid pandemie. He is so good at English, that he's helping me now to improve my English. He was 9 years old when he started with you tube about Minecraft. Now he's 12 en he's at bilingual middle school, 70% of the classes are in English. So, my experience and advice😊, let them watch you tube as long as possible!

    You know what? I have zero organisation skills and I have no tolerance for building habits, so I decided to simply speak English with kids as if we were a British family, and that’s it, I find it effortless because there’s nothing I have to think through. Whoever’s reading this, it really works, my elder daughter is 7 now and she’s totally fluent in English.

    Thank you for this incredible podcast that provides me with deeper insight into the benefits of familiarizing kids with English at an early age. My viewpoint before listening to this podcast was to have kids expose to English with a native speaker of the language that will ensure the accuracy of the language use. However, I have changed my mind after listening to this brilliant podcast, which helps me take in the fact that confidence and fluency are of paramount importance to kids. In short, it is not grammar rules but fluency and familiarity are the purpose of English learning that parents should focus on when it comes to having kids immerse themselves in English at a very young age.

    My native language is Spanish. I have being speaking to my baby in English since she was about 3-6 months old, when I was alone with her. But her father was against that for not being a native speaker. She is 3 years old now, her Spanish is better than her English, and takes her more time to speak in English, but she tries, and if she doesn't know the word in English, she just uses Spanglish. If I don't speak to her in English for two weeks or more, the next day I use English she refuses it, and tells me "Speak in Spanish, not English". So I do understand the importance of the routine.

Also compare what I was doing as a teacher and could add something to this área.

    Hi Luke and Bree,
    I recently found you, and I’m thoroughly enjoying listening to your content. I am wondering if you could produce a couple of podcasts discussing strategies for safeguarding our children from online gaming addiction. Additionally, could you offer guidance on supporting children who are already struggling with this issue? I work closely with a significant number of refugees who have resettled in our city, and many parents are expressing concerns about their children’s excessive online gaming habits.

    Sorry, I’ve already written 2 comments, but one more thing - your relationship in a second language can be much more polite, respectful and cute, because that’s the kind of English you’ve been exposed to while learning it yourself. It took me a while to realise that.

      @daschy123 8 місяців тому

      Judging from your nickname, I strongly believe you are Russian. As an English teacher born and raised in Russia I do think that the best thing a parent can do is to teach their native language to the kid. Teaching a foreign language you are not that perfect in yourself is not a great idea. But that's only my personal approach.

    • @Staruha91
      @Staruha91 8 місяців тому

      @@daschy123 Well, my kids speak Russian very well too, even better than English, so I don’t see a problem here. After they reach a certain age, they can decide for themselves if they want to advance further in any of the languages, they may choose to stop using English or Russian or whatever, but at this point they are fluent in 2 languages and I think this is great.

    From birth to three years old looks reasonable, but the environmental factors are not as easy as what you thought to be made. I do know the earlier to start the easier to learn and grasp the key of language study. But, for example, I am Chinese, and my kids have been around tons of Chinese dialects since he or she was born. It is very difficult and frustrating to build an environment, in such a situation, would you please suggest a more appropriate approach?

    I'll be honest: I don't listen to this kind of episodes

      @@RoseReadings nah, I don't blame her cause I don't know her. It's just that I'm not interested in the topic. I prefer the episodes featuring James, Luke's parents or some others about other topics. It's just a matter of taste and I wanted to be honest, not everything must fit with everybody's preferences 👍

      I think it`s a matter of preference. I don`t have kids, still found this topic engaging and her measured, soft tone seemed to me very soothing and comfy.

      @@LukesEnglishPodcast I think we can brush aside these accusations. I mean, at the very least, if it was the case, there would be hundreds if not thousands of comments like “Oh no, Luke is buying subscriptions!”

      @@Staruha91 It’s weird though, isn’t it? What makes someone write that? Or is it possible that someone is offering to pay people to subscribe to my channel? The internet is weird sometimes.
