Had an app in the late 90's called "3DFX" - came FREE with a high end video card. It was able to make 3D objects out of flat files, move objects through space, control textures of every facet and lighting at absurd levels (pin lights, ambient, reflections, fog, motion, etc.) I ended up rendering splash screens with Premier Pro for cable TV commercials my boss wanted. I was NOT a graphic designer, more of a CIO, but I had a lot of fun doing that stuff.

Nice! You forgot to add a really important step something easily missed is the aspect ratio, generally for normal pretty pictures you would do 16:9 say 3860x2250 like on my Mini2, however this is actually not the correct setting for data capture. In 4:3 you actually get 4000x3000. TLDR 16:9 on the Mini 2 is 8.685.000 pixels and 4:3 aspect ratio at 4000x3000 is 12.000.000 pixels :)
that way your capturing at 12 MP instead of 8.7 MP
    Your welcome :)

yes, or use Litchi or Maven

    • @ArialPhotography
      @ArialPhotography 2 роки тому +3

Rainbow on android gives you 5 tries for free and they offer easy to make grid waypoints where you can enter the required picture overlap you want both vertically and horizontally.
But nothing beats Litchi, if you have the money its the best investment there is. With Litchi your Mini 2 is able to do anything + more then the mini 3. the released SDKs for the mini 2 completely destroys it as far as waypoints and taking pictures at exact locations every time.

Can you do this with a Mini 3 (non-pro)? We need to survey and model a few acres of land for a solar farm which is relatively steep - 275m long with a 17m drop. We have a mini 3 already, but i wasnt sure if a scan created using this kind of method would create an accurate 3d model or not. Needs to be accurate enough to plan construction of the frames from.

I always assumed this wouldn't work well, because there's a significant processing delay when you take a raw image, which I assumed meant you couldn't take images in quick succession. Not to mention the major lag that occurs when while it's processing. My screen is frozen for the duration which is pretty dangerous.

I've done this a few times on autodesk recap and mesh room. Mesh room is free and open source, but hasn't worked that well for me. Autodesk is free for some uses, like students, but I'm not sure under which circumstances.
In my case, I never thought to use point of interest on the drone. Instead I just orbited manually while just mashing the camera button. Works well enough. I've also tried pointing the camera up on my mini 3 to get more detail out of ledges and roofs, but this doesn't always work well.

Great video. Pix4d and DJI Terra provide more detailed maps than Drone deploy imho but licenses are expensive. Dji Terra total license costs 5k. And you have to pay yearly for updates. Crazy these prices but i guess it will generate lots of income for pilots that have good paying clients.

hm.. i would think no.. you could probably get a rough idea, but down to a real size, no.. windows and doors usually have size standards.. you can probably guess the size of them doing them using this.. but seeing you can just go up to the house with a meassuring tape and do it manually as you need to be like less than 200 meters away anyways and the time it takes to take all the images takes more time than the walk to the house..

We use GCP ground control points to align the maps and increase accuracy. We are running 1.6cm accuracy on our maps and surveys. Just a note. The Phantom 4 pro v2 is the best for mapping like this as it has a mechanical shutter. I looked at upgrading to the mavic 3 pro with the hassleblad camera and it uses a rolling shutter so not as good as the old Phantom. Our M300 also is rolling shutter with the H20t so kind of a disappointment. Great overview, drone deploy can do so much more than you can imagine 😊

Your question is like asking, “Ansel Adams, why bother with all that goblygoock on settings and film developing on different type of film, just take a normal B&W picture and print it, damn it!

Google Earth or Bing maps is not a perfectly accurate positioned map data. If you want the data to be perfectly accurately positioned you need ground control on four corners and middle to get as close as possible to the actual location. Then you import that point data and align the aerial image to your ground control points. (GCPs)
GCPs can be white/orange paint for example or man holes or other structures as long as your tool for gathering point data is a legitimate point gathering GPS head with enough accuracy to level it's real world position perpendicular to the ground before taking the GPS point data shot.
Keep note if the point is gathered while the GPS head is not perfectly perpendicular to the ground then you could have inaccurate point data. (Pretty common in surveying but just with enough points everything should align to your aerial nicely)
Just like with anything though our point data can be off around 1-2cm at least.. which is pretty dang accurate and IMO perfectly fine.

grat tutorial. I am sick of needing three different softwares of which each cost more than 500 Euros/year when they are cheap, just to get one acurate product. Therfore, i subscribet in hope you'll find great open source software ;)

They are free alternatives like WebODM but bottom line is the paid versions are a lot easier to use

0:15 “Accidentally got shot at” !!
From a law enforcement perspective there was nothing accidental about - the shooting attack was intentional and highly motivated.
Not only a serious crime to shoot into somebody else’s property in residential neighborhood without knowing where missing pellets end up - but also according to Air Traffic Administration regulations to which even constitutes as valid aircrafts.
(indeed the pellets do not stop mid air when running out of inertia and fall to the ground - the trajectory is curved and more flat and if hitting someone in the eye in a low angle during the ballistic fall....... 😮)

I do believe there is such an app that includes the Mini 2 on iOS, since DJI released the SDK for it. But, not the Mini 3/Pro, yet.
