이건 진짜 너무 민족적이라서 사운드 만으로 분석하는 게 힘들 듯... 차라리 Yellow 보는 게 나을 듯.
It would be better to listen to Yellow by Lim Kim so that you can understand better. Min Jok Yo is too much Korean so you need much more ethnical backgrounds. I think Yellow is much more about being Asian woman in western society. You would be more familiar with than this one.

미국 사람들은 유럽이랑 그렇게 언어가 다르다고 늘 말하지 우리 아시안들도 다 언어가 달라 한중일 말이 안통한다고 단지 옐로우를 듣고 오리엔탈적이다 동양적이다 라고만 느끼지 않았으면 좋겠네
이분들은 단순 감상이 아니라 음악 기술적 분석을 중심으로 하긴 하지만, 림킴이 어떤 생각을 가지고 어떤 메시지를 음악에 녹여내고 있는지 알고 뮤비와 함께 감상하면 어떤 리액션을 보일지 궁금하네요.
어떤 생각메세지를담았어요?
although I love minjokyo and mong I would've love to see them reacting to the intensity of yellow or digital khan, I think these songs represent this new lim kim's era better somehow, but great video nonetheless
I agree completely! Yellow is what turned me on to Lim Kim and it is an insane powerhouse of a song
I don't know how others voted, but I put my vote for the two that were in here essentially because Lim Kim sings better than she raps, and so the songs that rely more on her singing came out more solid. There's certainly a lot that's good about the instrumental of Yellow - but that intensity comes off unhindered in Minjokyo (Entrance).

온 더 스테이지에서 민족요 라이브한 거 있는데 그것도 좋아요 시각적으로도 만족할 수 있어요
I think this would have been even more interesting if you contrasted her early "K-Pop" work like Awoo against Generasian. The drastic change in style and tone is kind of incredible.

@@FRAMEDSKATEKREW69 Hmm. What's disappointing is that you'd use such a bullshit and disgusting term as "nazi-feminism" (which btw doesn't exist. Nazis are inherently anti-feminist and misogynistic) about a korean woman decidedly creating music that actually speaks to her various experiences.
The music she made before was often largely pushed onto her by corporate industry, or at least held back by it in part (whether consciously or just due to pressure), but now she created this new album with the help of individual supporters/fundraising because she wanted to actually express herself deeply, free from the restraints of people with more money and power than her that probably would have never allowed her to speak on her struggles within that industry.
You're allowed to be disappointed. It's definitely a new style, and her old music has great aspects. But pushing such a toxic, un-nuanced, nonsense term as "nazi-feminist" onto an artist that is daring to make music that honestly tells her story or the stories she feels the need to tell to be more free in herself artistically? That's just garbage.
it's so interesting to hear the reactions of people who didn't grow up with this kind of, hmm, soundscape in their ears. the way they described what they see/imagine/feel gave me a new perspective on tones & sounds that are basically as familiar and nostalgic to me as the western classical canon. I appreciate how respectful everyone was, too, so thank you for that!
(also, fun linguistic note re: 'mong' (夢) yes, in modern mandarin it sounds different (meng4 vs korean mong), but it sounds very similar to cantonese (mung6), which would historically probably have been the pronunciation of 夢 as it made its way into the korean peninsula)
I assumed I would be someone who would find the soundscape unfamiliar when the song was described but then the singing and the drums in the beginning and chorus sounds sooo similar to this specific genre of traditional Somali music that I’ve forgotten the name of. Especially since groups of women usually sing it.
As a Korean indie fan, I'm glad your videos are not just focus on major Kpop. I hope other music genre in Korea become popular abroad. :-)

I am so happy to see this being reacted to! Lim Kim's new era of music makes me feel low key intimidated and high key like I need to start a revolution. I don't think of it as K-pop, but I'm so glad you put it in the lineup anyways and gave it more exposure. My favorite is Sal-Ki. Thank you!!

i love this episode because she uses a lottt of traditional korean musical + vocal elements so seeing classical musicians interact with this new type of music is really interesting!! Thanks for including these songs
The first song is so familiar to me because i grew up listening to minyo but it has modern distortion. I love it. I guess this song would be introduction to korean traditional music to kpop listeners

Great video. 'Minjokyo' to my mind is Lim's amazing rebirth announcement to the world. 'Mong' is haunting, delicate, dream like and (Korean) soul...ful. Lim's voice reminds me of Erykah Badu a little, here. I love her music and can't wait to hear what she puts together, next 🖤

I really love this album, it was really interesting to hear the musicians reactions. I liked the way they explained everything. Whenever I watch one of these videos I realize that the reasons I really like songs can be explained In a more complex in-depth way.

Would've loved to hear what they had to say for Yellow~ I love how her complexity makes everyone have to listen multiple times to catch everything. Her music sounds very futuristic even tho it comes from a traditional background. I kinda want to say her songs are ahead of her time. Some ppl get confused so I try to introduce it as headphone music so they can take in all the sounds.

I listened to lim kim's earlier songs like Goodbye 20, Stay Ever, and Voice. When i found this album, it was indeed shocking bcs it is SO different. Sadly it is not my cup of tea but im happy she gets to do her art freely ❤️

The middle sounds in Mong were almost certainly inspired by Gamelon music. This EP is such a mix of asian sounds from all over the continent.

OMG FINALLY I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
The first song reminded me of Chinese opera singing or Chinese Buddhist chanting. It’s interesting... but not for me. The second song was a lot more enjoyable to my ears. I prefer her old catchy pop style, but it’s great that she’s experimenting and doing the music she wants.
I wish they would have watched the video for "Mong." It adds a lot, and it makes its own statement too.

Directl translation to mong is dream. It's a very common used chinese word in some circumstances, but we usualy say like kgoom. Daniel got it right
