I love these games. Never before was I moved emotionally like this by a game. Glad I decided to pick it up recently it’s a hidden gem I should have never slept on.
What made me sad further is when you meet another Scanner type, he talks about how people doesn't call him Nines anymore when the scanner type asked him if he can call him Nines. He said "no one calls me Nines anymore" knowing that 2B just died and the entirety of YorHa was decimated. He also lost his joy and meaning of living, that's probably the reason why he said "I'll be with you before long." He knows that he will die anyways especially since he lost his sanity while he fought 2b clones and the revelation of 2B's true role. He just lost his will to live when 2B was killed by A2 in an act of mercy. As for 2B, she hesitated in telling 9S that she truly loved her in the secret last message in her flight unit. The reason to this is probably because she doesn't want 9S to suffer further and broken from the inside. She wanted the original 9S to stay safe and sane. Yoko Taro made us cry when we saw him try to keep the memories of 2B he had and as he slaughtered 2B's clones. Really depressing. And I want a sequel..
when i played this i literally stopped there looking at the lunar tears for at least 10 minutes , listening to what has become my favourite ost ever , almost crying. sometimes i just play for barely 15 minutes just to go there and watch the flowers while listening to that ost
@@Cyrotechnium she already loved him, so not much more. She confesses in her last message, although it is only clear in the japanese version, where she says "suki" (like/love you) but cuts the word short and changes subject immediatly.
I was so not expecting that. I was like "huh, hasn't the sidequest ended? I have to go to the mall now? Ok, maybe Emil has something to say..." and BAMM boy I was devastated. 9S just learned how humans used to mourn people they loved with flowers and he just knew the right place to do so.
Id be a liar if I said I wasn't fighting tears at some points during this game, this being one of them. 2B's death scene actually broke me though, I lost it when she called him nines.
Spoilers if you haven't beat Route C. Seeing all of the children die from suicide in the factory was depressing. What's worse, if you delete his memories and visit his village, you see him sell the body parts of the children he raised. Having his memory wiped, he calls them junk. It's just incredibly dark and sad. Fought tears over that because I really liked Pascal. 2B crying and dying are also pretty sad moments. I feel the scene that gets less talked about is when 9S "kills 2B" when he's in her data/memories or something like that. I thought that was pretty sad too.
By the time I finished with ending E just about 30 minutes ago (my shirt is soaked in salty tears) I noticed I had 6 missing quests. I know I didn't finish the 3 colosseums and I assume the other 3 are Emils 2 quests and this one. I'm also mad that this wasn't in the main storyline, because I bawled my eyes out at this video, and I'm sure that if I had done this quest naturally, this moment would have been even more painful
One thing that makes this scene shine was the ending. [Heavy spoilers] If you chose to go with Adam, 9S would say nothing. If you don't go with Adam, 9S would say: "So, that's where you were, 2B." Back when completing the side quest "Lord of the Fallen," 9S questions the existence of souls, God, and Heaven, and wonders if dead machines would reach Heaven. 2B responds: "They'll find out in the end. And so will we." I needed a 10 minute break after finishing Gathering Keepsakes. 🕊️
I'm not even a huge 9s fan like I know many people are but... is it impossible to not get choked up/cry (at least a little) during this scene? That uncertainty of having/not having a soul and hoping to see those we love again is absolutely killer. This game is in my top 5 games of all time without question... scenes like this make it clear why it could be a favorite for anyone passionate about deep, meaningful storytelling.

I go back to that cave many times stand there for long periods of time, listening to that goddamn beautiful Nier theme and try not to cry......damn this game hit you HARD.
I remember I came here on instinct. After 2B died I felt so..empty. The world in the game just seemed to look uglier. More barren. More hopeless. Needed to get away. Needed to be reminded there was something besides ugliness in this world.
I take bittersweet solace in the fact that 2B cut off her blindfold just before she died and then 9S was thrown off the bridge and at some point he returned and retrieved her blindfold .. ;_;
this game will forever hold a special place in my heart, i just love it so much and i’ll do anything to forget it all and play it again just to go through everything all over
I realized after rewatching this video many times that this is unironically beautiful. 9s could of referenced suicide with that final line and man it hits like a truck.
Suddenly I had an urge to imitate a certain video game character while witnessing this in the game myself, here's the quick rendition; Requiescat in pace, 2B..
I swear to god, majority of not all the side quests hits so hard. This game story isn't that long but because of all the fun side quests, it took me forever
9S side of the story after 2B dies is absolute carnage as he loses it little by little with every cleared box, but this small moment of peaceful resignation is beautiful beyond all possible description, a shame it is one you can miss entirely if you focus on the main quest too much.

You need to collect the lunar tear flower first, you need to do that during the first part of the game with 2b or 9s. Just talk to Emil after completing the mission at the castle and you'll start the quest.
