Great video! Biscuits and gravy are one of my favorite things to make so I thought I could give a few personal tricks and tips since it is your first time! Homemade biscuits take a bit of practice so if you want to give them a shot, I would suggest making them for the first time separate from cooking the actual meal so that you can get a feel for the recipe, dough, process, etc. It took me about three tries to get them where I wanted them. As for the gravy, I have a couple tips! When you brown your sausage, try browning it for a longer period of time with the goal of getting it very golden brown. This adds a depth to the flavor and keeps the sausage from feeling too soft while eating. Once you have your meat browned, add in your flour, and be sure to stir it around/coat the sausage in it. The objective here is to cook the flour before adding the milk, which is done by combining the fat from the sausage with the flour. Think like you are making a roux but with meat and fat instead of butter or oil. Cook the flour until it becomes fragrant and a bit brown, then add in your milk. Stir the milk in a bit at a time and only add more when you see the flour and milk binding around the sausage; this could take anywhere from two to thirty seconds. This is how you will get the texture of the gravy right so it is important! Also, remember that the water from the milk will be evaporating so the consistency will always be thicker than when you add the milk and stir. Hope this helps! Edit: I forgot to mention my own preferences for this! Whoops! I love a smaller chunk of sausage in my gravy, almost like bits instead of chunks, and I add a bit of cayenne pepper to mine because the spice compliments the lactose so well!
I recently subscribed to this channel. I was watching some of your old videos from in your old house. You look amazing, keep up the good work. I love watching your family on fathering autism. You and Asa are awesome with Abbie. You are doing so great with her homeschooling. She has come so far with her life skills it is great. And Isaiah and Abbie's relationship is heart warming.
I’m in California but a southerner at heart so best breakfast is a big, Sunday breakfast. Eggs, sausage, bacon, gravy, biscuits and grits! All the options.
I’m in isolation on my own & cant wait to have my 3 children & their husband & wife & 6 grandchildren over for a huge breakfasts...I miss them & cooking for them so much...,xx
While I do know how to make biscuits from scratch, I always go for the Grands, or the house brand Grands (less expensive). For my gravy, same as yours, brown that sausage, then I toss in the flour and kind of saute it a bit to kill the flour taste. Add salt, pepper, a bit of garlic and onion powder, then slowly whisk in the milk. The grandson prefers his biscuits open face, so I just do them all that way. Mine, I sneak a little butter and maybe a drizzle of honey onto before I add the gravy. I love cooking for my family. Tonight, mashed potatoes, air fryer pork chops with whole wheat Panko on them, corn and peas. That wonderful meat mashing tool is amazing! The grandson is 13, autistic, and wants to be a chef. As soon as he sees me put the meat in the frying pan, he is right there, with the "Meat Smasher, Grandma" and does all the browning for me.
I love to make breakfast pizza. I buy frozen thin pizza crusts, fry up bacon, once bacon is done I add saucage. Once saucage is almost done I add in chopped onion and peppers. In a different pan I scramble up some eggs. On my crust I put some 4 cheese alfredo sauce then put on my fried veggies and meat, add eggs and mozza cheese and bake. I have served it to company several times for breakfast and they LOVE it!!.
I made this for my family this morning and it was a hit! I’m a South Carolina girl myself, so biscuits and gravy aren’t new to us, but I’ve never made them from scratch, we always got them at Hardee’s! Thanks Cilla for inspiring me to try making something new!
I love your channel, Priscilla. The items that you make are always so good. Biscuits and gravy are a southern classic. My great-grandmother grew up in Georgia and had them all the time as a child. She made biscuits and gravy as an adult all the way until she passed at 98 years old. I can almost taste her biscuits and gravy right now. Yummy! She made an awesome banana cream pie too. I can't wait to see what you make next. Take care.
This is my favorite! I am kind of know for making some slapping gravy! The only thing I would suggest is that you add the flour and mix it into the sausage, it will melt right into the fat on the sausage and coats the sausage. Cook it while stirring for 3 to 5 minutes to cook out that raw flour.. when you add the milk it will quickly combine and the gravy will coat that sausage. I add lots of pepper, salt and a tiny bit of garlic salt. Slaps every time lol I use the same biscuits. Like nobody has time for that. I think Grands does a fine job too.. you are looking so beautiful ❤️❤️
The grands biscuits in the freezer in a bag are so much more like homemade. The butter tastin flavor is the best. Once I found those homemade no more. Also you can make as many as you like and put the rest back in freezer. I also like to cook my roux to a darker brown adds a depth of flavor bringing out the nutty flavor of the flour. How my great grandmother made and passed down.
Saying hello from North Wales, UK, love watching all your family vlogs, I work in a special school over here and am privileged to spend my days working with fantastic young people like Abbie! I’m also a single mum to a 13 year old boy and I have to agree with you, I love cooking for him! Although I’m nowhere near as good as you! Great pj’s by the way! Stay safe everyone xx
Convenience is key to making a meal fast so if the biscuits are just as good out of a packet then I say go for it. I live in New Zealand so the word biscuit for us is the same as your cookies and I think our scones are similar to your biscuits. I used to make yorkshire puddings when cooking a roast but I now just buy them as it's a lot easier. I love your family, you are all so inspirational and of course I adore Abby just like so many others viewers. Xx
I know this sounds weird, but it’s always been a tradition in our family to have biscuits and gravy, but we also make frozen mixed berries on the stove sprinkled with sugar until they get hot and then we put the berries on the plain biscuits (without gravy on the biscuits). It’s really good and everyone I’ve introduced it to loves it too!
Having you do your own angles are everything! I love watching you cook. It’s so imperfect and so relatable to how I cook. I usually just guess my way through 😂 sending you and your family so much love!
Sausage Gravy is a family favorite in our home. We usually save it for holidays & special occasions, but since we have been socially isolating we’ve made it a couple times. Before all this we would make family breakfast on Sundays - no dance classes LOL and would do cinnamon buns, French toast, eggs, or pancakes.
Biscuits and gravy is one or my favorite breakfast foods. My grandmother makes gravy the same way. She also make some good breakfast burritos. It's really simple. It is made with bacon eggs and tortillas. You can add things like peppers or sausage. You could also add cheese.
Only thing that my father cook was gravy. If my mom was not feeling good we got gravy and biscuits for dinner. All different kinds. Hot Dog, hamburger, chip beef, and sausage. So he taught me. I make all of the above and more. I make gravy from ham juice and turkey gravy. I use everything you use and add a couple pads of butter yummy! Love you and your family! Enjoy! Stay safe! 💖
We usually eat bread and rolls for breakfast topped with jam, ham or cheese. On the weekends I sometimes make pancakes or porridge, but we usually keep it simple here in Germany.
I'm Canadian and always wondered what the hype was all about with Americans and their biscuits and gravy. Thank you for your post. I will try this soon.
I love a frittata on a calm Saturday morning. It allows me to use up all the little things that we didn't use during the week. Love your videos thanks for sharing 😎
Cilla- being in the kitchen is NOT MY THING, but since you showed your pot roast (HUGE hit) I have always gone back to your channel for recipes that I feel confident enough to do. Thank you 💕
I also make this alot .My dad was in the army as a cook and he showed me how to make it. I drain my sausage in a strainer and catch the dripping in a bowl. Put the drippings back into the pan and turn the heat on high.when its real hot then add ur flour and whisk it.Add ur milk and keep whisking turn heat down. When it has thickened like u want it then add ur sausage back into it and stir until the sausage is hot. u can do bacon also instead of sausage. also u can add a little bit of water if it thickens to much for u! I also use bread sometimes instead of biscuits.
My family loves when I make biscuits and gravy for breakfast. I make it very similar to how you did yours except I also add in a packet of Kroger's (my local supermarket) sausage gravy mix for some extra flavor. Have a great weekend and Happy Easter!
Lets do a “me get faster” I like that word better than time lapse 😂😂 love this family too much, you aren’t fake, you’re real, you a loving and positive but you also show the raw struggles 💛💛💛 Love from Australia xo
I like to use a pinch of red pepper flake and some cumin, lots of pepper and a smidge if salt in my sausage gravy!! I make biscuits from scratch because it's what my family prefers but I HATE doing it lol. Also Bisquick makes super easy drop biscuit dough.
After quarantine if you're looking for something to add, I use this exact recipe but my dad also added a can of pet evaporated milk. And then filled up the can with regular milk. I make it that way now for my husband and he's hooked. Mmmmm soo yummy
Wow...Cilla what a great job filming , cooking and everything else that you do! You are so comfortable with the camera all by yourself! I also love feeding my family it truly is a labor of love! ❤⚘❤⚘❤⚘❤⚘❤⚘❤
I learned to make biscuits from my Tennessee gramma. When we are camping in the RV I take a package of Rhodes frozen biscuits. They are SO good, just about as good as homemade! Next time you’re at the grocery pick up a package of them. We think they are even better than the Grands
I use the same biscuits when I make biscuits and gravy. My family loves it! I useally work afternoons (3 till 11:30 pm) so I have been loving being home at night woth tje family having family dinner. This ti.e is time to slow down and be woth family. Love your channel and your recipies! Stay safe.
I have never made biscuits and gravy but have always wanted too!!! I know know what I’m making Saturday. I’m one to usually make crepes with strawberry and apples!
I love biscuits and gravy! My grandpa's recipe is my favorite, but I had no clue how to make it and I was too proud to ask. This with some bisquick biscuits will be heavenly.
I love to cook! Since high school (quite some time ago,) it has been a passion of mine. I don't find it to be a chore, because my family loves my cooking, and that makes me feel so good. Your dish looked wonderful!
We love sausage gravy and biscuits, pancakes and sausage, and I also make a copycat Krystal scrambler. It’s grits, scrambled eggs, cheese, and a sausage patty. You just make your grits, scramble your eggs, cook your sausage and just layer it up in a bowl in the order given earlier. Yummy.
I love Biscuits and Gravy, I usually make it for dinner along with some eggs on the side, but I do cheat and buy the Pioneer Packet gravy mix, but taste just as good!
I use one can of pet milk the rest whole milk( I don't measure) you'll be surprised the difference. So good! I actually use pet milk in my Mac and cheese, scrambled eggs all my gravys.
I've definitely got to try This! It looks much better than what I make from the gravy packets. Loved how you filmed this video, you looked relaxed and beautiful.
Yeah you’re going Priscilla it makes like you have lost a lot of weight Daniel I had my bariatric surgery on 28 July and I want the last 40 pounds now I’m looking pretty good too but I have about another hundred pounds to lose
