Somebody is good buddies with Leno...the entire report can be simplified to "Leno is the everyday middle man who worked for what he has and Conan is a privileged rich boy who had it all handed to him on a silver platter"...thanks for the non-bias insight of this long time behind-the-scenes feud lol, really this "report" should of been introduced by saying "our producer likes Leno more, this is why".
They guy who said that Leno is like Johnny Carson is full of it. Carson was demur and subtle while Leno is just insulting and sarcastic. Carson never was "in the face" of his guests where that is common with Leno. Carson comes from a farm background where Leno is pure urban.
I went to Leno's party many of times. Sure, I had fun. I laughed but after awhile it got stale. Same old jokes, same humor day in and day out. Then I looked across the street and saw people at Conan's party having fun. At first it was only a few people there but I joined them for the next 17 years, and I gotta say, it's the most fun I ever had and I can't wait to go back to that party down the street at TBS.
You really have a hate on for Conan. He's much different the Leno and I don't see how you can say such negative things about Conan and only positive about Jay (mostly just based on popularity, which is a poor judge of quality at best). Jay is a better stand up... or at least was. Conan is better in conversation, a natural strength for someone who is more of an intellectual. When Conan converses with comics like Norm Macdonald or Louis CK it makes for better television than anything Jay does.
@gmcjetpilot Actually, I like Conan's act better than anybody elses. Just my opinion though so not trying to say it's fact that Conan is better. I just tend to like the energetic type of comedian, not one that just stands there and talks. Personally, I could care less about ratings. Networks do, but I watch what I want to, not because it has more ratings. Only thing I like about Leno is that he's a major car guy, other than that I could care less about him.
What bothers me about these alleged actual opinions Jay & Conan reportedly have about each another is they come from "long time associates", "insides" and "staffers"...none of whom will say any of this on camera. I'm skeptical of any claim made by a faceless source who doesn't even provide their name. The text message at the end, however, is quite correct. No matter what you may think of him, Jay's ratings are the best of any talk show host in late night.

It's not Conans fault that Leno had to go on a bunch of crappy shows before he made it. I think they are both funny Conan just got lucky at his first time on air, and has enough loyal followers to keep is show going. @JHJennings Kimmel is still the "Man Show"/radio talk guy and often mean spirited. His interviews are boring because he's disinterested and unprepared. His bits are stale, abusing children, FCC tribute and security guard banter are boring. Guillermo is not funny and uncle Frank is ill. The shows musicians are top notch, but Jimmy Fallon is way more cutting edge with "The Roots", and his game show stuff, acting, singing, improvisation and genuine not jaded interviews are refreshing.

@JHJennings I watch little if any live TV any more, I record on my DVR or watch off the web. I might watch 10 min of an hour talk show, catch monologue, may be a bit, guest or band if good. The convenience of "on demand" viewing from the web is worth a few 30 sec commercials. In the day Johnny was it, no cable or satellite. Now we have up 4 shows going at a time from 11-2am, plus comedy centrals Jon Stewart and Colbert or Chelsea Handler. The future wide area wireless on-demand.

They guy who said that Leno is like Johnny Carson is full of it. Carson was demur and subtle while Leno is just insulting and sarcastic. Carson never was "in the face" of his guests where that is common with Leno. Carson comes from a farm background where Leno is pure urban.
I went to Leno's party many of times. Sure, I had fun. I laughed but after awhile it got stale. Same old jokes, same humor day in and day out. Then I looked across the street and saw people at Conan's party having fun. At first it was only a few people there but I joined them for the next 17 years, and I gotta say, it's the most fun I ever had and I can't wait to go back to that party down the street at TBS.
You really have a hate on for Conan. He's much different the Leno and I don't see how you can say such negative things about Conan and only positive about Jay (mostly just based on popularity, which is a poor judge of quality at best). Jay is a better stand up... or at least was. Conan is better in conversation, a natural strength for someone who is more of an intellectual. When Conan converses with comics like Norm Macdonald or Louis CK it makes for better television than anything Jay does.

What bothers me about these alleged actual opinions Jay & Conan reportedly have about each another is they come from "long time associates", "insides" and "staffers"...none of whom will say any of this on camera. I'm skeptical of any claim made by a faceless source who doesn't even provide their name. The text message at the end, however, is quite correct. No matter what you may think of him, Jay's ratings are the best of any talk show host in late night.

Johnny Carson PICKED Jay Leno. He never praised Connan O, who was terrible when he first came on. NBC stuck by Coco, so Coco FORCED NBC to promise The Tonight Show & force Leno out by by threating to quit. Carson would have told Leno SAY NO, retire when you're ready. He has no experience in front of a live audiences, stand-up, nothing. He was lucky.

Kimmel is still the "Man Show"/radio talk guy and often mean spirited. His interviews are boring because he's disinterested and unprepared. His bits are stale, abusing children, FCC tribute and security guard banter are boring. Guillermo is not funny and uncle Frank is ill. The shows musicians are top notch, but Jimmy Fallon is way more cutting edge with "The Roots", and his game show stuff, acting, singing, improvisation and genuine not jaded interviews are refreshing.

Inside Edition also reports hard news & politics. I've found they're more unbiased than real news networks. Conan O'Brien, I like him but he's NO Johnny Carson. You hate Leno for some weird reason, but he beat Letterman and still does. NBC made the right move. If you like Letterman, fine, no accounting for taste. I like all of them, however Letterman is tired and so was Conan. The only new different shows are Craig Ferguson and Jimmy Fallon, who has the coolest band. They're both late shows. Jimmy Kimmel is kind of a bore with a few moments. Difference between Jay Leno and Conan-O-CoCo, are ratings. Leno has ratings and CoCo does not. Look up the NY Times article Jan 29, 2011. Leno is #1 of all late night proving the format is a winner. Leno is even beating everyone in the younger adult demographic. However CoCo does well with 12 yr olds. Also Harvard's gave Leno the Hasty Pudding Man of the Year award.... and CoCo graduated from there. All late night host can be funny but CoCo is just not that funny.

If he worked with Leno, my guess is Leno would have retired at the end of the contract, by then he might have the ratings? If NBC renewed his contract he could slide back. Give it a year or to the end of his contract. I doubt he had a show air-time clause. As much as I liked CoCo at 1230-0130, he just did not play well at 1030/1130. CoCo's humor was always about him.

Craig Ferguson seems like he'd be a hoot to hang with, and I've tried to watch his show. He's funny, but I just can't bare his so easy going demeanor, as to seem to not give a shit, so I don't either. It gets ridiculous, face in the camera monologues that try to pretend they're casual & unprepared, "mouth organ or awkward pause". Leno is soundly beating Letterman (and all other late night) again, as the Tonight Show always had, but under CoCo, Letterman was beating the Tonight Show. ALL LATE NIGHT SHOWS HAVE TAKEN A RATING HIT. Due to economy, people are going to over the air (OTA), so CoCo being on basic cable will be hurt. All other late night (except comedy central) is on OTA networks. CoCo's youngest "fans" tend to not watch TV anyway. Leno is just a "parental figure" they rebel against.

Middle America wants a TV on sleep timer to fall asleep, something they can hear not just watch. CoCo is sight gags, red hair, pale skin, string dance and repeated "be cool my babies". Leno is more stayed, classic topical stand-up, set-up, punch line, joke, joke, joke.. CoCo's antics are great I guess if you're high, don't have to work. It's a matter of taste. You teens and 20's haven't grasped the fact what you like doesn't mean shit. This is a BIG COUNTRY with adults.

Go watch CoCo on basic cable. I watched CoCo on NBC Late Night & Tonight Show and seen his new show. IT'S THE SAME OLD CRAP: string dance, cockney accent, clowning, knock over microphone, MY RED HAIR POOFS UP, I'm pale and "nutty"! YAWN! Minus Max plus MORE about him, no wounder he appeals to self centered immature narcissist potheads. Shows big red hair logo makes me sad, Carrot Top but not as funny. CoCo isn't funny or smart & he's almost 50! ByeBye CoCo.

I watch little if any live TV any more, I record on my DVR or watch off the web. I might watch 10 min of an hour talk show, catch monologue, may be a bit, guest or band if good. The convenience of "on demand" viewing from the web is worth a few 30 sec commercials. In the day Johnny was it, no cable or satellite. Now we have up 4 shows going at a time from 11-2am, plus comedy centrals Jon Stewart and Colbert or Chelsea Handler. The future wide area wireless on-demand.
