What they did wrong was cast JORDAN "HEART-THROB" FISHER as John Ambrose McLaren. The character was already so loved by the readers and if you wanted to make Peter appear as the OTP guy, you need to make him more desirable and NO ONE stands a chance against someone with the charisma and charm of Jordan Fisher. Not that I'm not grateful that I got a cheesy, cute rom-com with Jordan in it but make better choices, movie people.

I feel so bad for John in this movie, he was so lead on. Laura Jean not telling John ever that she has a boyfriend is so not okay. Then telling him they were broken up, actively flirting with him, only to kiss him and leave three seconds later. Peter messed up but god Laura Jean really did too.

Unpopular opinion: I think the way Peter changed in the second movie is realistic. Once you've been with someone for 6-12 months (depending on the relationship) you leave the honeymoon phase and show the real you. A lot of people stop trying so hard to appear a certain way in to their S/O. First movie Peter was so likeable, but in the second movie he starts to show his true colors: he's a jerk. This happens in real life all the time.

Easily team John, the entire movie framed her relationship with Peter as anxiety ridden, stressful experience. She says multiple times that when she's with John, she doesn't have to try and feels most comfortable. The movie pissed me off because it built up to her finally realizing her relationship with Peter wasn't a fairy tale and moving on and then immediately shifted to Lara Jean disregarding the entire character development she had in the movie.
I don't know how anyone could watch this movie and be Team Peter. This love triangle was so oddly set against him that throughout the entire thing, all Peter and Lara Jean do was fight. I mean, I loved all the scene with her and John, but that's because of course we're suppose to like them; we literally see only his good side. So when she ultimately chooses Peter, it literally does not make sense. Peter and Lara Jean seem like such different people but in the worst ways possible. But even from that snippet Dylan read in the book, it still sucks that LJ chose Peter. This whole thing just sucks.

@@whatsinaname1133 I agree with you, it's her perspective so things would look skewed! Even so, I kind of wish the movie put more time into showing us how meaningful her relationship with Peter is. Because in the part you're talking about, where LJ kisses John and comes to a realization, I'm still having troubling understanding what it is she's realized about Peter that makes her go back to him. They've done nothing but fight the entire movie, struggle with insecurities, and don't exactly grow from it; as individuals or as a couple.

@@bambi587 My cousin actually worked on his Hallmark movie with him and basically said that he's the nicest dude ever, but he had no idea he got replaced. Netflix never told him that he was getting recast and his manager didn't tell him shit so he basically found out he wasn't John Ambrose anymore when everyone else did. I feel bad for him because he's actually a pretty talented guy, but Netflix never gave him the news, which I feel like is pretty hard to handle
Honestly I think the real problem is that she tried to jump into another relationship right after she broke up the first. Rebounds and time off exist for a reason, hearts need time to heal, you can't just brush off all of the feelings and memories you had with a person as soon as you break up, it's what Peter said about Jenn in the first movie, and it's what's evident from LJ's words in the second book, she knew John was the right choice for her but she still had feelings for Peter, if she just gave it some time, she might have been able to grow to love John and be in a healthy relationship with him after getting over Peter properly
the first movie was so god damn good and the chemistry they had was phenomenal. The directing had such nice little quirks that made the movie so aesthetically pleasing. And then the 2nd and 3rd flushed everything I said down the toilet and turned it into bad boy vs good boy and Netflix just cloned the 2 movies with the kissing booth.
This movie was too centered on the aesthetic, the plot was so empty and there were so many other sub plotlines that could have been explored. Jordan Fisher was the lifeline of this movie.
I was kinda dissapointed with this movie, John Ambrose was the best part. The rest kinda missed that spark from the first movie...

Just like Lara Jean, I happened to be in a love triangle with two of my friends back in high school. One of them was just like Peter and the other was so much like John Ambrose. That being said, when the time came for me to pick one person who do you think I chose?

Peter. Or at least the friend who was most like him in this situation. We knew each other since we were kids and we kind of had "history" so I ended up going back to him and not giving my other friend a chance. I thought that he had to be "the one" (cringe). Everything happened so fast. My "John" was on the phone with me one night and he brought up how he felt and the possibility of us being in a relationship. Then, I started listing all the things that I thought he would have to deal with if we did date. And he paused and said "I already know all these things about you...Why are you trying so hard to push me away?" And just like that it was over. I'll never forget that night and the conversation we had. My "Peter" stayed the same. He partied a lot, didn't express his feelings well and he always left me wondering and waiting for something. After I finally got the courage to end our relationship, I realized...all those years we were so immature. We never really cared about the other person. It was always "I should come first" and "YOU should apologize". Our relationship was built on infatuation and we always mistook it for love because of how many years we stuck together. By the time I realized that my "John" might've been "the one" (still cringe), he was already gone. With a serious relationship and a child on the way...
So seeing Lara Jean make the same mistake I did by disregarding the genuine spark she had with someone to go back to something more "familiar" hit me so damn hard. Especially when I know that if this were based on a true story, this character might have been in my shoes...regretting, reminiscing and wondering "what if". But you know what? This story isn't real. To be able to love like this only happens in the movies.

@@mlsnd I just wanted to share my story and my opinion on this type of love triangle :) I think movies like this might be nice to watch but in real life situations it might not be as pretty. And those “not so pretty” situations should be shown and highlighted more in movies especially when it comes to younger audiences because it’s easy to get the wrong ideas on love and relationships through entertainment.

The second movie seems a little cringe to me like it's a little force on us. I don't know it's a weird vibe compared to the first one. The first movie seemed genuine and innocent something we all could relate to when we have a crush.
I hated how everything was so overly colour coordinated in this movie (I can't remember if it was also like that in the first one tho) because it just made it seem like it cared more about aesthetics than depth.

that line about breaking his hear into a thousand pieces bothers me SO much because it's also plagiarized. it's the same line maxon gave america in the selection (the third book, i think it was named was the one). i bought that book the day it came out and then read it a million times because that line made my heart skipped a beat. and peter blatantly plagiarized it.

In the book, the locket Peter gives her is important because she went to look at it all the time in the store. It was an extremely thoughtful gift in the books but treated kinda so so in the movie.

Lucy Heartfilia I think they just tried to keep an element from the books in the movie, but without the backstory it was pretty meaningless. I’m not sure if you read the books but in the books, Peter’s mother runs an antique store that LJ loves to visit and every time she looks at this locket hoping to one day get it, but it is a very expensive locket. When Peter gives it to her, he tells her how much he knows she wanted it by how many times she came to see it and he agreed to partly pay and partly work off the debt to his Mum by working for her, to be able to give LJ the locket.
Yea i was actually shocked with peter because I had started the book but I never finished in time before the movie came out, so I watched it then finished the book and Peter is such an ass in the book so I’m team John in the book but in the movie I was team peter and seeing the necklace scene at the aquarium and him lolling heartbroken made him seem like less of an ass in the movie but in the book he didn’t tear up, just asked for it back nonchalantly and it annoyed me
Peter freaking demanded it back in the book and I lost it that was an irredeemable act right there. Just cause you break up with someone does not mean you go to them and demand the presents you gave back. It was a gift so its hers now the only exception to those rules is engagement rings and family heirlooms but those shouldnt be demanded back the person who received it should obviously give it up... what was my point? After watching the films multiple times and having read the books, Team John. He was such a good person who deserved so much more. I loved his character and how he was emotionally mature and intellectual, it just felt like both him and Lara Jean were more compatible.
The thing I didn’t like is how much time they waisted on transitions and unnecessary shots instead of showing all the Laura Jean and John Ambrose moments. When you read the book, John Ambrose is the obvious choice that it’s devastating when she doesn’t pick him, but in the movie, they kinda push you to like Peter and make John just seem like a random conflict in the relationship. I also hate how this move ends and doesn’t set up the third and final book. It just ends with no conflict whatsoever.

I hate the trend of "girlie" movies being given to female directors for the first movie and then when it's successful being handed over to a male director. It's happened with this series, Twilight, 50 Shades, After. Say what you will about the quality of said movies, but they're still big budget Hollywood movies and it's rare for women to get those opportunities.

I thought they gave this one to this particular director, because he was great as the director of photography for the first movie (and for this movie too). Because I love the unconventional way the camera move, and sometimes the way conversations between two people are shot, in both movies
I'm actually extremely excited for the new director of After. The first movie was not that well done. The new director directed "Cruel Intentions" which has so much sexual tension, and that's exactly what After lacked in the first movie. It was way too PG-13. The books are filled with sexual tension and there's literally none in the movie. If the new director can give that to the second movie, then it is already 10x better.

I really liked the first one but this one seemed weird and like a cheap, soulless chick flick. John Ambrose was the best part of it. Lara and his chemistry shone through but Peter and Lara's chemistry fizzled out. The make out scene in the car was not hot but gross because it was in front of her house with no ambience to encourage the mood, but the Jacuzzi scene in the first film was very well done.
The part where she breaks up with him and starts lipsyncing the was song in school made me go "????is she making a tik tok now?" And the jarring and clearly last minute addition BlackPink song made me roll my eyes to the back of my head.
It feels like the director thought "lmfao what shit to teenage girls like these days?" And then just smashes them into one film.

Lara Jean just doesn't love Peter. She's playing over John's words in her head, flirting, trying to write him love letters, didn't divulge her relationship. The right thing to do would've been staying broken up with Peter. They also never resolved their issues (him being so outgoing, lying to her, LJ flirting), there's just no growth with them.

Lara Jean is 16 and has had literally no experience with boys outside of romance books. The same books that always put the “Peter character” as the hero in the end. Her choosing Peter actually makes a lot of sense. Tbh John is safe and predictable. He’s pretty much LJ in boy form except he’s way more mature. He’s literally perfect and completely unrealistic. Of course she’d choose the flawed, immature and previously unattainable “bad boy” Peter. She is also flawed and immature. She’s done pretty shady things to both guys that show she’s not ready for John. It’s natural to go for the one you can mature with who is just as flawed, over the one you have on a pedestal and have to try to measure up to. Either Peter grows up with her and becomes a better man or she outgrows him and eventually moves on to the better man.

If you look back over s3e12 minute 52, you'll see Zach go to the cops and admits that he beat Bryce.
Bryce died from drowning, Alex tried to help Bryce up when he and Jessica found him by the docks, but Bryce started saying that he going to destroy Zach's life, so Alex pushed him over the docks and he drowned.
Zach never loved Chloe, he was just trying to be a good friend and be there for Chloe because nobody else was.
I really hope Alex and Jess both go to jail for what happened to Bryce. Alex pushed him over the edge, and jess just watched him drown. They both were fully aware that one of Bryce's arms and one of his legs were broken and Alex knew that he would drown if he pushed him over the edge. But he didn't care, he did it anyway.
