i feel like the script writers didn't have addison's character "break down" or portray a wide range of emotions so to speak was because she just lacks the ability as an actress. she's barely (if at all) alright as an actor in the more lighthearted scenes, so deep or difficult scenes are just out of the question for her.

@Chrissy 123 nah those older movies hold up. In this example She’s All That had light years better production, performances, script & wardrobe than He’s All That. It baffles me that the guy who made Mean Girls directed this. He was so promising, what happened? The ex-boyfriend looks like something out of a 2005 movie. To be pretty honest Cameron is quite hot even before the transformation - or maybe I just have a weird taste And I get why they cast Rachael Leigh Cook and Matthew Lillard in this movie but is so... tacky, obvious and uninspired. I'd rather have members of the original cast playing the same characters again, in another context, as if it was almost a direct sequel, than playing other characters.
She’s all that isn’t great or special, but I always thought the reason Laney was not popular was her attitude, which was appalling, really, she was rude to everyone with no reason. The makeover was not so bad, they tried a little, with the “not improved, but new”. And I liked that Zach had an arc and actually learned and evolved personally through his friendship with Laney. Did not even consider watching the new one. Thanks for the taking one for the team, Mina, great video!
Agreed! I think Laney’s ‘character arc’ was her putting her walls down and being overall less judgy of the people who she didn’t initially hang out with or associate herself with … I think she discovered that she had a preconception of everyone before she actually got to know them, perhaps this was formed from years of not ‘fitting in’ and maybe being made fun of for being antisocial which led to her overall bitter presence and attitude towards her fellow peers. This is just a little mind ramble of some interesting concepts to think about, happy to hear other’s opinions/ perspective on the characters too! :)
i can't wait for gen z to grow up and make films about our real experiences because i can't think of one popular modern teen romcom/drama that does it well (i bet they do exist but aren't as well-known as netflix movies and such)

I agree on Mina's point on the ending. I kinda think it was off too when I finished watching it how she ditched college to travel the world (frankly, if she HAD money to travel the world, why didn't she just use that money for college). A better ending would have been her finding another sponsor for funds and encouraging Cameron to take photography in college or something and travel during spring breaks. They would probably get other PRs with Padgett's social media influence and Cameron's photography skills. (but hey what do I know XD) (ps. not saying it's really really bad to not go to college ok just agreeing on mina's take on 16:19 how it wasn't really a good message for teens out there)

I have theater and film degree and I'm looking for a job now. I swear EVERYTIME I see these Netflix creations, I literally scream WHO DID THIS?? WHO AND WHYY?! This makes me so angry... Just give a chance to young script writers, they would KILL for an opportunity to produce a show or a movie for Netflix. And I'm sure that they WILL get job done so much better
She's All That is definitely a movie of my youth; one of those movies I wanted to see in theaters but my mom wouldn't let me. I recently re-watched it alongside Drunk Feminist Films and there are definitely, DEFINITELY moments that do not hold up, and it generally is one of the lower tier teen rom coms of its time. (10 Things I Hate About You being the superior doing-this-for-money movie!) However, I did really love the chemistry between the two leads, & the lower stakes are definitely not as contrived. The new one just doesn't seem to do, well, anything, especially with the main premise being the exact opposite of what I was expecting. But I really appreciated your comments on the fashion! The main character did look a little weirdly out-of-place in terms of her clothing & the original is just pure late-90s trash in a way that brings back so, so many memories.
Hi Ms Mina I absolutely love how you research everything so well. AND ACCURATELY, with relevance to current "era" if we may say. Watching you is like delightfully reading a solid piece of article, but with aesthetics. Most of all, your confidence to carefully balance out the "pros" and " cons" and add your own analysis CONFIDENTLY but with respect. You are so eloquent at what you're doing. I cannot believe you are doing this professionally. What a treat to watch you. Just wow. Thank you for gracing the internet !!!!! ^_^
In reference to the wardrobe , old navy was one of the many brand sponsors that were product placed in this film. I think as part of the deal all the wardrobe was from old navy , with maybe the exception of the prom dress. Teens, especially “cool teens” are not shopping at old navy,
I literally don't get fashion. I feel freakin hot in skinny jeans and I refuse to wear anything loose. I don't like how loose-fitting clothes look on my body. My figure is so close to being considered "fat" because I'm naturally really curvy, but I also have some tummy fat. It's barely enough for most people to call me skinny, but loose-fitting clothes really don't do me any favors. Just had to mention it because of the skinny jeans TikTok included in this. I despise how that's considered irrelevant now. Wear what you want, people! Anyways....the movie sucks, lol
Oof, thanks for taking one for the team and sparing some of us from watching the movie. I was a teenager in the 90s and still have a soft spot for the original even though it's kinda bad, so I was considering watching the remake. This video gave me enough of a taste of it to determine that I think I'd actually rather not spend my time sitting through that. It's a shame they seem to have completely missed so many elements that gave She's All That its charm.
I don't understand the point of this makeover because "unpopular, artistic, anti social-media, nihilist Cameron" is pretty much EXACTLY my type. Dude's already a chick magnet.
For a video idea, I think it’d be really interesting if you could do a fashion analysis of Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride. It’s personally one of my favorite movies of all time but I also think that along with analyzing the historical accuracy of the character’s fashion, if you could try to place some of the background people in the world of the dead in what you can gather to be their correct historic periods would be really interesting! Particularly there are some French revolutionary guys, and plague(?) children? Also, Emily’s wedding dress, if it points to when she’s from and if you could decipher her age relative to Victor that’d be really interesting! Overall most Tim Burton films would be interesting to see especially since we’re approaching spooky season!
the actors could have pause between their dialogues...it was just so unnatural and felt tacky. But anyways, these are just my opinion, and we can all disagree without disrespect :)
21:34 I can't believe that they made this guy wear *GG Allin* shirt, just to have him sing Teenage Dream in a next scene. Maybe it is metaphorical glance at social media and a love letter to GG Allin's attitude that, according to many, was genuinely punk; his art was an attack on everything, including himself and his listeners. During shows, GG Allin was using excrements for a shock factor. Did the the main male character decide to live in filth of social media to be as punk as his hero? Did he want to make an ultimate sacrifice in the name of rebellion? I think, by infiltrating world of contemporary social media influencers, he wanted to make the biggest statement possible -- against life, social classes and taste.
Well I honestly don't know GG Allin, and i haven't watched the movie but apparently, the "couple" throws horse shit at each other. That's at least some parallel to the excrements you just stated
I'm from Thailand and I'm SOOOOOO glad you shoutout Myra Molloy. I was veery young when she won Thailand's Got Talent but I remembered that she's an amazing singer. the fact that Mina, Kennie, Sophia, Moderngurlz AND Zzavid are all dragging this movie almost makes me wanna suffer through it just to stand in solidarity with my favs 🤣
THANK YOOUUU for validating me on questioning Padge's wardrobe. It doesn't make sense for an influencer at ALL and I could not get over those damn espadrille wedge sandals. Please tell me WHOOOO is wearing plastic-looking gold wedge sandals, let alone espadrilles. The fashion felt like it was from 2010 or something. If the wardrobe designer was inspired by tiktok fashion, then they very loosely took inspiration from it.
the fact that they couldn’t even add the original she’s all that on Netflix (at least where I’m from, it’s not on there), this movie was bad but not as bad as kissing booth 2, that was the worst movie I’ve ever seen
Couldn't have stated it better myself. I grew up on the original and have watched a million times, the actors were and still are timeless. Idk wtf Netflix is doing but I'm glad I never wasted a penny on their service.
All of Padgett's outfits looked like Old Navy clothes which makes sense if she's "poor," but also Shein, Fashion Nova, etc are also cheap and more in line with who she's supposed to be
that generic as fuck ken doll haircut they gave that boy to make him """"hotter"""" causes me physical pain...but then again this movie apparently still thinks "pink is a Girly Color(tm)" so im not surprised that it also thinks "long hair on boys is unattractive/weird" 🙄 amazingly both of these sentiments manage to be somehow even more conservative, bland, and obviously dated than addison's character's wardrobe
MINA! You gagged me with using Two Weeks In July for your outro music, I thought my phone just started playing it out of nowhere. We stan superior taste in fashion AND music
My best friend and I watched this because our classes are hard and we didn’t want to have to think. But we ended up trying so hard to make it entertaining it didn’t work.
I like She's All That (despite is being super problematic/outdated now) because it does have relatability at some core level, and character development. I feel like, based on what I've seen of he's all that - a lot of Padgett's wardrobe looks like something I would have been wearing to work in an office like 5+ years ago and I'm 30.. so I'm far from trendy. (And you're right, the character development, story arcs etc are all just..meh) I really agree costume design wise with a comment I saw that basically said that there are so many of these movies where designer X did a great job in the 1990s or 2000s but now when they're on a project, the clothes are just.. out of date. It's like they haven't progressed with the times.
Random thing that always bugs me about these movies is that I feel like whoever's writing them just does not understand how the internet and virality work. So many movies throw "viral! viral!" around and I'm always just like... There's no way anyone would care about this
I always thought the point of the original makeover trope was "don't judge a book by it's cover". Because looks doesn't matter and a person you deem ugly could potentially look even better than you do if she/he was styled the same way? Never thought someone could interpret something problematic into that 😅

I'm sorry millions?! This is what they got?!
@@dylanmorales450 exactly lmao. I heard someone say it looked like a highschool film project 💀
He also did the whole “you look better like this” in a literal dark room... A DARK ROOM. That’s such a back handed compliment
i think netflix should employ you for every styling project ever
i feel like the script writers didn't have addison's character "break down" or portray a wide range of emotions so to speak was because she just lacks the ability as an actress. she's barely (if at all) alright as an actor in the more lighthearted scenes, so deep or difficult scenes are just out of the question for her.
I think it was also because they didnt want Addison to appear "indesirable" by making her have more complex imperfections.
90% of the costuming in The Parent Trap is flawless to this day!
Specially the mom's revenge dress 😍
I hadn't gotten to this point in the vid yet and thought you were just spitting straight facts in the comment section 🤣
Its fucking immaculate. I don't take other opinions
Annie being a little girl but wearing a Chanel like suit is iconic 🤣
Oh no, it’s 100%. We’ll, maybe the dad needed to try harder haha
Matthew Lillard was the only good part of the movie.
Then again Matthew Lillard is usually the best part of any movie.
And shit I forgot her name oh yes, Rachel Leigh Cook (I haven't watched a lot of movies with her)
@@ahyan6681 Oh yeah. Her too. Forgot about her.
I was thinking the same exact thing. He should be in more stuff.
He's a great actor but I don't like his character in good girls lmao
he's hot
i dont even want to blame addison, i mean if i got offered a chance to star in a NETFLIX show i wouldn’t say no. but i cant believe THIS is the quality of “teen” dramas these days
@Chrissy 123 hsm had good casting but the movie was overall, nothing... fine for a disney musical ig... Mean Girls is iconic... A classic for sure
@Chrissy 123 nah those older movies hold up. In this example She’s All That had light years better production, performances, script & wardrobe than He’s All That. Despite being almost 2 decades older, the originally looks higher budget. They’re making movies cheap & fast to turn a quick buck. Quality matters less when you don’t have to worry about movie ticket and dvd sales to make a profit on the movie.
that outcast boy from he's all that sounds like the most annoying type of boy ever.....like literally the incel dude who makes the things i also like look bad
Yeah, especially with the "I dont hate popular music, I hate music that's bad". That reeks of know-it-all incel

Ironically, the 90s clothes in the original movie would be way more accurate to what a current influencer would wear.
Mina Le doesn't realize this, but her videos are curing everyone's boredom
not just that, but also fucking inspiring us to also do stuff we enjoy. love her 🥰
and her style thooooo ❤️
How did Roger Ebert give “He’s all that” 3 stars ✋😭 but gave “Howl’s Moving Castle” 2.5 stars 💀 naww
Roger Ebert was a fucking hack. Honestly he gave plenty of good movies shitty ratings because of the dumbest reasons.
0-0 I just watched Howl’s Moving Castle today Lol
He rated Howl’s Moving Castle whaaaaat???
"Howl's Moving Castle" is a masterpiece, 2.5 stars where 🤡
Howl’s moving castle is 5 stars and I take no critique, Jo Hisaishi’s score for that film alone is a masterpiece
I love how Hollywood's answer to the criticism of objectifying women is to also objectify men.
Preach!
I love how this is my third commentary video on the "he's all that" movie but each youtuber i watch them from are equally hilarious and fun so i just never get bored. 💀💀
Omg same!! This is my third commentary video too, hehe 🤭🤭

Watch me make a 'they're' all that and its sapphic and a girl remakes a nonbinary wlw and its very wholesome and sapphic the makeover is not changing their style but actually giving them confidence and a better mental mindset AAA i love this actually i can already imagine some cute scenes
PLS we need that
yes
yesyesyesyes that would be amazing
i would pay to watch that
He’s All That wouldn’t have been so bad if it had been done by someone who has minimal understanding of how internet works. In real life most people would take her side and both would get followers because people love a good gossip (myself included).
Honestly the whole dead parent trope, when done like this, always annoys me. It’s like they try to give a crappy character superficial depth by having their mum die of cancer like 2 years before or something and It’s like your character still sucks it’s just now their mums dead 🤷🏾♀️
their character development died along with their parent😔
This is one of those movies I have the strong urge to rewrite in my head ya know
old white men in suits dont know a thing about teens. She wouldnt have been cancelled AT ALL. she would've gained more fame actually. also, they should be grateful that everyone has forgotten Addison's past and just see her as "annoying tiktok dance girl" or else this movie wouldnt have gotten any attention at all
drop details
Not old white men in suits lol 😂
I love how hard you're trying not to be shady but we all know there's no other way to react to this movie haha I loooove you
Cameron would definitely be one of those guys on twitter who would comment on girls twitter posts and say “ratio” or something like that
It baffles me that the guy who made Mean Girls directed this. He was so promising, what happened?
The ex-boyfriend looks like something out of a 2005 movie.
To be pretty honest Cameron is quite hot even before the transformation - or maybe I just have a weird taste
And I get why they cast Rachael Leigh Cook and Matthew Lillard in this movie but is so... tacky, obvious and uninspired. I'd rather have members of the original cast playing the same characters again, in another context, as if it was almost a direct sequel, than playing other characters.
Are we sure it wasn't Mean Girls 2? 😭
Tina Fey really had a lot to do with Mean Girls though. It was her passion project.
Maybe because I saw him on Cobra Kai, I had a hard time seeing Cameron as physically ugly. But the moment he started talking 🤮
bless you angel, for putting in the work so we don't have to
She’s all that isn’t great or special, but I always thought the reason Laney was not popular was her attitude, which was appalling, really, she was rude to everyone with no reason.
i'm vicariously watching bad movies through you- i'd NEVER be able to put myself through that (side note- i dig that eyeliner)
me too! also agree with the eyeliner, i was just staring at how good it was the whole video
Wait… now I realized that I have a new movie to hate watch with my friends 😂
@@alyssapinon9670 if you're gonna hate watch, don't do it via netflix, we do NOT need a remake of this ;)
i can't wait for gen z to grow up and make films about our real experiences because i can't think of one popular modern teen romcom/drama that does it well
(i bet they do exist but aren't as well-known as netflix movies and such)
That loose continuity thing with the red dress was such a BRILLIANT idea I have no clue how they didn’t think about it! People would have loved it more if it actually was the real laini!
i would recommend watching “love don’t cost a thing” on netflix instead of this one!!! so good 🥺💕
I screamed when I saw it on Netflix! I love that movie, Christina Milian is so gorgeous.
“We’re not Mula-ahn!”
I was always unnnerved by that scene too!
Mina you're my favourite person to watch on youtube, you're wonderful!
patiently waiting for your costume review of amazon’s new cinderella…
The makeover in Wild Child is the only good one I've seen. She activity chooses to change her appearance & it shows her character development.
WHY DOES NO ONE TALK ABOUT THIS MOVIE
yeah but that’s completely different. she changed because SHE wanted too and not what others wanted. he’s all that is a fucking failure of a movie.
(but hey what do I know XD)
(ps. not saying it's really really bad to not go to college ok just agreeing on mina's take on 16:19 how it wasn't really a good message for teens out there)
I think that the characters of the original movie getting into each others’ interests was so cute
Addison’s outfits in the movie were literally pieces from 2013-2015 and I’m scared of it coming back tbh 👁👄👁
I cringe every time I see BetterHelp, but I also understand people need to make their bag too 🤷🏽♀️
would love to see a video about the costuming in freaky friday and the parent trap!! a bit of a palate cleanser after this mess… great video as always!!!!
Thumbs up for Freaky Friday! Still a style inspiration for me :)
Teens, especially “cool teens” are not shopping at old navy,
The waterfall blazer with the skinny jeans for a teen tik tok influencer was just blasphemous.
Everyone!!
Mina uploaded
Time to get snacks ready and get comfy because we’re about to watch this 💕💕💕
this sponsorship is very fitting because after watching this movie i definitely felt the need for a therapist
Lols I just love the roasting you doing for both movies and I am here for it 😂👏👏
I'm here for the lipstick rant lmaaaooo
I watched it in open tv when I was a kid, watched again as adult and I FOUND SO MANY RED FLAGS it could cover the moon.
I don't understand the point of this makeover because "unpopular, artistic, anti social-media, nihilist Cameron" is pretty much EXACTLY my type. Dude's already a chick magnet.
He didn't need a makeover just a shower and a decent shave
yeah plus nobody really cares if you don’t have social media 💀 rarely people even ask for mine.
Same. The thought of that bubbly influencer girl trying to change him pisses me off.
But anyways, these are just my opinion, and we can all disagree without disrespect :)
mina if i had money i would give it all to you so that you could make a review of the costumes on the parent trap. sh*it was iconic
That's at least some parallel to the excrements you just stated
hes all that relationship dynamic was really amazing despite some of the outdated stuff
I mean Zach’s sister says “the new, not improved, just different” which I think is an important distinction for the makeover
I'm from Thailand and I'm SOOOOOO glad you shoutout Myra Molloy. I was veery young when she won Thailand's Got Talent but I remembered that she's an amazing singer. I haven't watch the movie (and am not planning to so I can save my brain cells). but damn, they really did her dirty when they made her sing badly 😭💔
when mina says hello my beautiful doves >>>>>>>>>>
Addison on the phone to the sister reminds me SO MUCH of the scene with Rose in Get Out. She just looks like she’s lying to manipulate her for some reason
the fact that Mina, Kennie, Sophia, Moderngurlz AND Zzavid are all dragging this movie almost makes me wanna suffer through it just to stand in solidarity with my favs 🤣
I recommend watching Not another teenage movie, the whole thing is a parody of shes all that it’s so funny AND Chris evans is in it so
THANK YOOUUU for validating me on questioning Padge's wardrobe.
I really enjoy your videos, you express your ideas very well and they have a nice structure
greetings from Mexico
You really nailed it about the costumes in the remake - outdated
MINA! You gagged me with using Two Weeks In July for your outro music, I thought my phone just started playing it out of nowhere. We stan superior taste in fashion AND music

Netflix is going down hill canceling amazing shows and making this shit
Literally we are living in this 90s 2000s nostalgia. They could have used the costumes from she’s all that and would have made a better job

(And you're right, the character development, story arcs etc are all just..meh)
I really agree costume design wise with a comment I saw that basically said that there are so many of these movies where designer X did a great job in the 1990s or 2000s but now when they're on a project, the clothes are just.. out of date. It's like they haven't progressed with the times.
People really think you can just take a movie concept that was problematic and offensive and switch the roles and that makes it progressive
Random thing that always bugs me about these movies is that I feel like whoever's writing them just does not understand how the internet and virality work. So many movies throw "viral! viral!" around and I'm always just like... There's no way anyone would care about this
This movie makes me appreciate disney original movies ✨😭
The best movie was 'not another teen movie' LOL. I agree with you
I always thought the point of the original makeover trope was "don't judge a book by it's cover". Because looks doesn't matter and a person you deem ugly could potentially look even better than you do if she/he was styled the same way? Never thought someone could interpret something problematic into that 😅
Also the scene where she says was I fucking bet was so much more Impactful in comparison to the reboot where it just falls flat
It's interesting that even though the stakes are definitely higher in the remake, they *feel* higher in the original.
Not another teen movie is superior one. Because it is a parody of a rather dumb movie and it has Chris Evans
