I made a cloak last week for a kid at school who has just REALLY got into D&D. As dungeon master I decreed he needed a cloak. Conveniently someone gave me a load of velvet-y black fabric, I downloaded a pattern...and it made him cry he was so happy. Cool!!
Thank you posting this! I watched your video last night and immediately felt an itch to make a cloak so I bust out my green velvet stash and got to work 💚
I agree we desperately need to bring back cloaks! I’m finally making one for me after making several for my kids over the years, including one my son took with him to college, and one for my husband. Such a versatile piece of clothing!
They were fantastic! Gandalf and the hobbit ones were definitely my favorite but I'm a Middle Earth so I can't say I was surprised that they were. Very much looking forward to your wedding stuff whenever you are able to show what you've made.
Thank you 🖤 I love the Gandalf one so much, it’s slowly making its way to becoming my new dressing gown it’s so comfy 😂 Wedding sewing began yesterday 😋
@@MadameMyriad Excellent! It looks comfy af and I can see you spending the majority of your day wrapped up in it, moving dramatically from room to room like a Chaotic Goth Hobbit Queen. I haven't made any cloaks for myself but am now wondering if I need to make an elf cloak to go with my Middle Earth Loki cosplay. I wish you heaps of fortune in getting everything done. I know you already have it all planned out, but a Middle Earth wedding would be spectacular. I speak from experience. Leaves of Lórien wedding bands and all.
Okay I want to only be known as the chaotic goth hobbit queen from now on, I’ll be changing my username 😂 & I need to see the middle earth Loki cosplay!!! Our wedding is very budget and planned in a month but we have gone with some middle earth inspirations where we can, our long term plan is to hold a massive medieval feast for our 10th anniversary- assuming we have a better income by then 😄
@@MadameMyriad I'll post pictures once it's done. Right now I'm at the "is there such a thing as too many beads and sequins?" stage of the main dress. But it's for Motor City Comic Con at the beginning of November so it'll only be a few more weeks. I would love to see and hear about what you are doing/have done for your wedding. It tickles me when people plan a wedding for themselves that makes their hearts smile instead of maybe going a more traditional route. We went budgety for ours; Wedding was held in my parent's back yard which we decorated a la Bilbo's birthday party, my mom made our wedding clothes, we made our own invitations, we didn't have a wedding party, my bff Jill officiated, and my daughter and I made all the food. And we were definitely hobbity with the food. We could probably have fed a small army. It was a perfect day.
I’m excited to see it 😁 No such thing as too many beads and sequins! We’re doing the same thing!! Registry office in the morning followed by brunch at Dans parents, we’re doing all the food ourselves - the day before we’re going to be buying bits from local businesses, including from the bakery where we first met. We’ve also been to a bunch of antique shops and bought loads of candelabras to decorate the house with and my mother in law is sorting loads of wild flowers to decorate with too. I’m also making the cake and some scones, my sister is on muffins, my mum is on pastries - there is going to be so much food considering there’s only going to be 10 people there 😂 We’ve tried to give it a loose Tolkien aesthetic with the colours and flower choices, as well as the more rustically made foods but everything is very budget so nothing too fancy - our invitations were texts 😅 I wish we could have done everything at home with our own officiant but in the UK that is not allowed, you have to pay hundreds to go to a licensed venue 🙄 oh well, at least we have one that’s pretty close to us
WOW! Good job!! Love them all!! Beautiful! The swish, ohhh. Love the Gandalf one!! And the one at 22:10 is giving me Legolas vibes with your blonde hair!! :) I literally bought a Leaf of Lothlorien brooch a couple years ago specifically to sew a hobbit cloak, then never got around to it!! With delicious Autumn now here, oh yes, will absolutely sew that ASAP!!! :) Thank you for this video!! A perfect tutorial. :) Congratulations to you and Dan on y'alls upcoming marriage!! I wish you many many happy years together!! Edit: And I am making a few rough sketches of an Elven circlet to make! Just need to find some jewels eventually! =) 💖 LOVE that pencil sketch Dan drew for your Rapunzel crown!
Thank you! 🖤🖤🖤 Dan has already started designing me some elven looks, he really wants me to make one 😄 Yess, hobbit cloaks for all 🙌🏻 Thank you, we’ve sorted everything now, just need to get a move on with my dress! & I can’t wait to see what you make (also I haven’t forgotten about uploading that sketch, it’s been sat on my desk for months and every time I look at it I keep thinking I need to upload that already!)
@@MadameMyriad Hope your dress making goes smoothly!! As soon as I settle on a sketch for my elven circlet (have a whole board on pinterest with crown ideas that I have to choose and decide from!), and get the jewels, then have the time....yes, as soon as I am done I will send you a photo! :) It may end up a photo of me wearing it while draped in a hobbit cloak- until I get my Galadriel cosplay sewn someday! :) Aw, you haven't forgotten about uploading Dan's Rapunzel crown sketch? That's so sweet. :) Don't rush, you have so many things that are wayyy more important!! =) Happy sewing, and many blessings! 💖
Thank you! That was my plan but then my partners nan offered me her veil for the day and I can’t wear both 😄 there’s a chance I’ll put a cloak on for the reception though! Also I love your cosplays, I’ve followed you for years on instagram, you’re so talented! I recognised your username instantly and couldn’t believe you’d seen one of my videos 😄🖤

This was the perfect vibe as I work on my renaissance faire outfit! Maybe if I have time I can whip up a cloak to match. Congrats on the wedding and hope the dress sewing isn't too stressful!
@@MadameMyriad A linen kirtle using Morgan Donner's drafting instructions! I'll probably add a wool outer layer as well when I get the chance, but we're having a bizarrely long summer here in southern Canada, so anything more than linen and a light cloak would have me roasting- and you can't skip the cloak!
I love those, every time I see one I want to make one! Morgan Donner’s videos are so good to follow too, I used one of theirs when making my Rapunzel chemise. I suppose the sun is probably better for a ren faire, make the most of it 😄 Good luck with your make! 🖤
Congrats on the upcoming wedding!! Can't wait to see the dress 😍 Also, are we going to talk about the fact that you have a giant sarcophagus in your house??? Hooooow??? Sooooo coooool!!
I stumbled across your channel two weeks ago when you posted your hallway makeover, and I'm so glad to have found you! The cloaks all turned out lovely, and seeing them come together (at least in parts) so easily really inspired me to sew something of my own again. Your channel is very much giving me British Rachel Maksy vibes, and I'm soo here for it! Wishing you all the best of luck on the wedding dress, in case it isn't finished yet, and looking forward to your next video! (By the way: How is there a giant sarcophagus in your living room? It brings a real National Trust/English Heritage aura to the room, but I was not expecting it at all, haha.)
Thank you so much, let me know how your sewing project goes 🥰 & I am honoured to be compared to the crafting legend that is Rachel Maksy! Also the sarcophagus is called Jenkins, he was the first piece of furniture I ever bought and is a secret bookcase 😂
@@MadameMyriad No way - a secret bookcase?! That makes Jenkins infinitely cooler than he already is! I'm looking forward to spotting him in more of your videos, and I'll let you know what becomes of my sewing. (I originally wanted to upcycle an old dress of my mum but then got lost trying to decide whether I should use a pattern or just wing it, which is where I'm stuck now, hoping that a decision will magically manifest itself any day now haha.)
I hide all my boxsets inside him 😂 & if I were up-cycling a dress, it would depend on how much I wanted to change it. If you wanted to keep some of the structure already there then you can tweak it and wing a new design, reusing some of the already stitched parts, like a neckline or the sleeves. But if you wanted something completely new then you can use a pattern, provided there’s enough fabric there to cut out all new pieces. Don’t know if that helps at all, also mood fabrics are a great site for free patterns, they have loads of dress ones.
While I completely realize this is not a big callout for me to pick up my gandalf cosplay again to finally continue, I would be massively lying if this didn't make me feel like getting it out of the closet IMMEDIATELY. All of a sudden I feel the need to dig through my stash for a ruana cloak!
Now that we’re getting into colder weather it’s great to wear around the house 😄🖤
Came for the cloaks, staying & subscribing purely because of the chestnut comment 😂❤
