Let me know if there is anything I didn't cover about ANKI that you want more info on!

Very informative ANKI tutorial! My only suggestion would be to add MCAT studying in the title since I'm sure many pre-meds could benefit from this as well!

@@georginab7009 That's a great idea. I am going to make a new video on how to properly use it for the MCAT as well. Have any other tips or questions?

@@JasonKrastein Yes I was thinking a separate video may be better but didn't want to suggest it since that is a lot of work!
So my other idea was inspired by my medical student friend who doesn't have any research experience. I was sharing my tips on how to find a lab, publish, etc. (since I have experience working as a research assistant). Maybe you could share tips and talk about your experiences with finding a lab/PI, conducting research outside your medical school, summer research fellowships/programs/scholarships, and how to publish papers/abstracts. She felt really stressed and lost throughout the process; she is planning on applying to an ortho residency and was advised she should aim for about 10 publications (which I thought was a lot)! A few tips I shared with her for publishing quickly are to first find a PI/lab in your area of interest that publishes often (through a PubMed/Google Scholar search) and then focus on publishing case studies, reviews, and/or analyzing big databases.
I think many students may benefit from this type of video if you had the time! 🙂

That’s a great idea. It’s hard to get research going and will be a great talking point. What kind of research do you do ?

@@JasonKrastein Thanks! There are so many directions you could go with research-related videos, even including specific ones for your med school and specialty!
In college, I did basic neuroscience research which was required for my thesis. After graduating, I decided to focus on clinical research since I love working with patients. I've worked in cardiology and now work in pediatric neurology. I'm happy to share a few tips as well since I remember how daunting this process was for me as an undergrad!

I have watched so many Anki for beginners video and still don't know how to use it until I found this video. It's beginning to click, so thank you for making the steps easy to follow. I hope that with Anki I don't have to take any notes in medical school (I'm suck at taking notes)

Hi Jason! I am an incoming GW student and I was wondering if GW has any specific premade decks, and why you chose to use a premade deck like Anking versus using a GW-specific deck (if it exists) or making your own? I wasn't sure if making my own deck would be too time-consuming. Also, I wasn't sure if I'd be missing out on material on exams by using a non-GW-specific deck. Thanks so much!

    • @JasonKrastein
      @JasonKrastein  Рік тому +2

Congrats !! I would avoid making your own whole deck. It’s way too time consuming. There is a GW specific deck but I would recommend using anking since there is enough overlap and will better prepare you for step compared to in house

@@JasonKrastein Thank you so much! Do you feel like you still do well on exams using anking exclusively? And do you review lecture slides at all before an exam to make sure you understand the big picture concepts/connections or details not covered in anking? I think my issue is letting go of my old way of studying and embracing something new (since I've never used flashcards before!), but I'm keeping an open mind!

I definitely lean heaving into Anki after reviewing all the material on sketchy, BnB, or Pathoma. The video resources are key

USA medstudents studying are weird... no notes, no big textbooks, this anki thing, stil doing questions...
Can you imagine that your exams would be verbal? Examinators give you 3 big topics and you have to talking everything about...
Studying for oral exams is very different and hard.
We (central Europe) have sooo many exams (writing tests every week, verbal exams at the end of each semester of every subjects and 5 final state exams at the end).
The whole sixth year (final) is devoted to bedside training in internal medicine, surgery, gynaecology and obstetrics. The study is concluded with biiiig 5 Final state examinations in internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, preventive medicine and pediatrics (practial exam, writing test and theoretical verbal exam at each of subject). And yeah its horrible.
I recommended this yt channel of medstudent in India - great channel.
For example this vid.shows real "studying" - big textbooks, so many topics, reading, reading, writing notes and again and again and again....

Wow that is definitely interesting. The biggest difference is that for the US, we have to go to 4 years of college and then 4 more years of medical school. I think that's why there is a big difference in study techniques. ANKI is also very good for learning a new language if you are interested. Definitely recommend trying it out.
