I started watching baseball in the 1990 World Series when the underdog Reds swept the mighty A’s, but I really fell in love with the game with these 1991 playoffs. This really brings me back to a time when baseball was more than just a game, it was life.
This is the greatest opening intro to ANY post-season game I have EVER seen. It captures the essence of baseball like nothing else. Goes without saying FOX's current broadcasts don't even come CLOSE to this. You show this to someone who doesn't even know what baseball is, I guarantee you, you will at least make that want to see what the fuss is about.
I was there this game, as well as Game 2 the next afternoon, and then for all 4 games of the 1991 World Series-the greatest, most dramatic World Series of all time. Thank you very much for posting this!
That intro music is SO PERFECT. After a full season of local broadcasts as a young Blue Jays' fan.. This music indicated that WE HAD HIT THE BIG TIME. Just a totally different vibe.

My first year watching Baseball World Series* 91* I missed this series tho. I was 9 in Lord Island but remember watching World Series in Qboro wit my fam. Twins was my favorite team than Reds* Puckett* Den Larkin was my favorite players and Griffey Jr was up there. In h.s and most of my games I was 11 for Larkin but my first hat was Minnesota. Good times mun, some great Baseball in 90s, after this im going to watch 87 series after this alcs* C.Davis and D.White from Yaard*RAsta Government
Candiotti's stint as a Blue Jay, well, let's just say that it was a bit of a 'knuckler' Lol. You didn't really know what to expect from one start to the next. Ultimately, Candiotti didn't stick around with the Jays after the '91 season needless to say.
Baseball coverage peaked in the 80’s and 90’s. Probably applies for all sports in my opinion. Sports coverage isn’t this great anymore. The themes, excitement, the build up, and the broadcasters were all better back then compared to today.
What people don’t know about that turn of events was that Morris later said he got cold feet before he signed that contract with Toronto. He said he called the Twins front office staff from his hotel in Toronto-both the owner and GM-and told them he was willing to take a hometown discount to stay with the Twins, but they made him no further offer at all and told him if they were in his position they would take the Toronto offer.
He was serviceable in the 92 regular season but horrible in the post-season. Then he was horrible in 93, not even making the post-season roster. Twins made a hoof decision, not bringing him back. Thr Bluejays would have a similar outcome with Dave Stewart in 93.
Dick and Lesley first met in the famed Game 6 of the '75 World Series. The running joke in the family was that Stockton meeting Lesley wasn't his biggest thrill of the DAY. Well, years later, meeting VIsser was more special than even the Fisk home run.
@@kingrey465 Noooooo really???? Pfft doesn't matter if he pitched for the Twins , Blue Jays or Cleveland HE WILL ALWAYS BE A TIGER!!! p.s. you need to pay attention to my comment before jumping to conclusions it's obvious 3 people understood what I was saying and meant!!!!
Yep. Candiotti started Game 1, because as Jim Kaat put it at the beginning of the telecast, Cito Gaston used his "hitters' mentaliity" approach, hoping Candiotti would lull the Twins to a hitting slump in a matter not dissimilar to Charlie Hough sometime earlier. Not the case in this series.

Yea that Reds series sweeping the A's was shocking. It was hard to fathom.
Loved the intro music from both CBS from this era and NBC’s into music during the 86 World Series

Tom Candiotti was a Blue Jay? You learn something new every day
Yep, back when the Jays were basically the Yankees, and acquiring all of the big rental players, lol
Yes, I personally blame him for costing the Jays this series. He was gutless
@@wc1233 nah, the Twins wouldve beaten the 91-93 blue gays in NO MORE than 6 games

And the Jays "got the memo", and acquired Jack Morris the following year, which helped them finally get over the hump!

Before Target Field
The Blue Jays could have had a 3 peat if it weren't for the Twins as they would win it all in 92 & 93. Great teams, and great era.
I wasn’t even thinking about that, good one.

Proof that knuckleballers never had success in T.O., first Candiotti then Dickey.
Did Dick Stockton just say “spread eagled”? In this day and age he would have been cancelled in an instinct.
