    I failed on the alley dock twice due to bad training from the school I went to. I watched this video a few times and it all sunk in. Didn't even get a chance to practice. Went out to test. Got through the straight back and offset with zero points. Went to the alley dock and followed this method. Did take me 3 pull ups, but to me it was beautiful because I got it right in! 53 ft trailer with sleeper. Thank you so much! Then I failed on the road. Didn't make a wide enough turn and rear tire barely went through the grass. Lol. One step closer to my cdl though. Appreciate it!

      @@MrDmacc1 about 20 feet past the alley. If the rear of the trailer is only 10 feet past the alley, my set up will be more than if I was 20 feet past the alley.
      First; if you are testing at your range- practice your set up. As you back up the trailer should go right into the alley. At the DMV- know the distance where you will stop. If you’re range is big enough, practice your set up and back into the alley. If the trailer is going early, you’re cut back a little on the set up. If it’s going to far to the right, need more on the set up. Just want to be as close as possible on time going into the alley. Did I confuse you?

    Best video so far, calm, composed tutorial, fully explaining how the trailer reacts , how your make small adjustments, and an excellent video. Got my CDL in 2021, but I've learnt over the years never stop learning.

      @@truckerstevecdlinstructor what % of the landing gear bar did you use, when you initially made your first hard right in the beginning set up? I noticed you mentioned that you turned right in the beginning , until you seen your landing gear, so do you think the hard right until You see the inside la ding gear or cut it more like 50% of the landing gear bar.

      @@MrDmacc1 I need a small angle on the trailer. If you are 90 degrees to the dock, back up until you can clearly see the landing legs. If you back up a little more, okay. Just need a small angle on the trailer. Now back up slowly. If the trailer is coming to the left, slow it down by turning the steering wheel to the left. If it’s moving late , steer to the right and get it back on time. After 40 or more alley docks you’re have it. Just don’t over do you set up.

    I’m class B in a straight truck. I didn’t pass the alley dock. I’ll re test Tuesday. I was so nervous and totally lost it. I kept being too early. I didn’t even know which mirrors and wheels I should focus on more. 😢

      I'm with you! I didn't pass my 90-degree either yesterday. It was my first test day and I think I let my nerves get the best of me too. Thinking back now I could have solved my issues so easily if I had been patient and thought it out but I couldn't think hardly. Did you pass on your second try?

  • @5.7dobey

    Just form watching your videos most of the reversing is based of of the set with the landing gear then from that putting that wheel straight and your determine if you are early are late then adjusting from there

    • @truckerstevecdlinstructor
      @truckerstevecdlinstructor  9 місяців тому +1

      Yes. When I back up, about 10 feet after my set up I have my steering wheel to the left. If the trailer starts going late ( to the right) I give it a right (get a reaction- trailer drifts back to the left) then quickly back with my left to slow the trailer down ( the movement to the left) .
      Right- speeds the movement up
      Left- slow the movement down.
      With practice you will soon understand what the concept.

    Every set up is different, I’m struggling with this because they don’t show me nothing at the school I paid lots of money and now I got to to train myself long story

    • @truckerstevecdlinstructor
      @truckerstevecdlinstructor  7 місяців тому +1

      Yes, every set-up is different. Pull 90 degrees to the alley. Turn the wheel to the right. - back up - the left side rear of the trailer is facing the alley. ( the landing leg is still or barely still in the left mirror. Try this- as you start to back up slowly- start turning the steering wheel to the left. If the trailer starts heading late, give it a quick right ( trailer reacts back to the left) quick back to the left to keep the momentum slow. Every time it drifts to the right- repeat. If needed, small pull ups.
      Demand to get the training you paid for. Ask for an instructor who knows how to teach this skill

      Thank you for your response, my test on Monday, the setting they trained me, hard right get the v straight my wheels back up to the doted line like 4 to 5 feet by my left side and put hard left on it, I think if I get too tight I just pull over to the left 5’3 to 4 seconds and straight 3 seconds and put hard left and back. Hopefully that will work for me. I failed so far twice and they show me but they don’t show how to correct it and I keep asking. I seen too many different moves and I’m scared to do them. I’m just going to stay in with what I know.
      I’m good with everything except the 90
