When I first started the 90 degree backing I struggled like hell now I'm showing other students how to do it... my advice to everyone is the more you do it the better you get at it and don't let it frustrate you when you lose sight of the trailer in dew time you'll have more control than you do at home lol.. 👍🏽😉
agreed, repetitions is everything. After a while you won't need rigid rules, eyesight, speed, and timing is huge. I had lots of trouble with timing, I kept holding my right too long, and you correct/pull up constantly. trailer end is ahead of where your eyesight and brain tells you it is in the mirror. I often skip the mirror on cut right, until I know i'm on a line, then I go to the mirror. go slow, be patient, when you start getting the timing then you can speed up some.
Sitting here frustrated as we speak, on my lunch break after not being able to do it even ONCE in 2 and a half hours!...straight backing I can do, offset backing, is coming along nicely...THIS one is kicking my ass.
you did.this so good , and you talked and explained what, and why you were doing the whole time. .you would make any student. at ease doing rhis backing..
Would be nice if you guys could make a video with the set belt on and two hands on the wheel. So we can see how you pull that off like our instructors are making us do it.
I just not getting it right I tested twice and failed at the 90 offset and straight line it fine with me but just not getting this 90 I even can do parallel parking easily but at road master they don't make u do parallel parking at the test site
lonely4wd For the NCDMV CDL test the driver is "REQUIRED" to do a 90 degree alley dock maneuver. So when you advise that it is, "not necessary", please review your state facts.
+sd-dirt Damn right! I noticed that too. Once inside the lane he swung it into the next lane and drilled that poor Volvo 770 that was just sitting there minding its own business!
+Michael Holley that kind of misses the whole point of training then doesn't it? we in the commercial trucking industry have to back up trailers DAILY, many times into difficult spots.
Great video , I'm still rough around the edges W/alley docking ! my instructors are telling us to begin to straight back approximately 6 feet then turn the wheel hard to the right two full turn until you begin to see the trailer begin to bend the turn it back hard left twice and "trust the Left " my problem I keep coming up short to the alley box. I feel as if I need to wait a few more feet then begin my turn to the right hard but slowly back to the left and watch the trailer. Your video provides plenty of ideas.
+Go Blue Remember: Small Cuts and Long Distance. All you need is ONE full right turn. As soon as you see your landing gear in your left mirror (maybe 3 seconds), STRAIGHTEN the wheel. Let the trailer drift until you see the rear left tire cross the imaginary line of the near cone, then go hard LEFT to straighten out. If you do this correctly you won't have to do ANY right turns after the initial one. This instructor screwed up because he would have DEMOLISHED the truck in the next lane.
@@denn4367 It all depends on the truck, your tandems, etc. What might work one day might not work the next. The point is that you can make adjustments if you are drifting either way. Small cuts over long distances is the best way for beginners.
set up is everything on 90 deg back. what helped me was visually lining up the trailer rear in the Center of the box. too far back and you risk hitting the pass. side trailer, too far past center you can back a little then start your cut. for me its seeing dead center of the box, If my set up left me short of center I cut harder and sooner or if way short I may pull up more first, if im past center, I will back a little and maybe cut a little back and forth until I can see for sure and then I know i'm in there safely.
I thought you did it way too fast and without stopping along the way telling us how to line up with the center of the landing gear and then the end of the landing gear and then repeat. It's way too difficult for beginners to do this in one fluid motion like you did. Thanks anyway.
Yep, and there are no 4wheelers parked along the blindside of your truck on that small street. No $200,000.00 Petes on both sides of you, AND no traffic coming on that same street you're blocking. Lol.
Hello sir how are you? I'm from india I'm a driver I have 9 experience in transport company 6yrs old heavy licence.Does any transport company in Canada give jobs to Indians ?pls give me a reply.thnkyu
I am from rural Canada and I see lots of guys from india and many other countries driving truck. Canada is currently pretty short on drivers so yes you will get hired!
Glad to hear that man. My CDL school was not all that great. Hardly ever taught us 90 degree backings. I am getting the hang of it though. Sometimes I do it on the first time some time I struggle.
Not on the back. At least not here in Ontario. Definitely need it when driving forward, but as soon as I've gotten out, checked my pathway, and am in the seat to perform the back I'm allowed to have the belt off, basically required to so that I can look through the window at my trailer.
In the US, that would be a fail. I guess the pointshpuld be to make sure you are aware of these little things depending on local law where you will be testing.
You encroached w/the tail of the trailer, couldn't see the passenger side but that looked like you encroached as well. If you were backing between 2 trucks, you'd have an accident report to file.
you don’t explain anything “to chase things” ... atleast give some tips as to at what distance is best to start turning. Not an exact distance but you know what i mean

Deva Singh yes I still make that mistake but each pull up is with more nd more confidence
@@candali1 I do fine in practice but always blow it in the test. just failed backing test #4
@@airplanebuilderman watch 90 degree back videos and it's almost 6 months, u pass the test or no ?//?

I like the split screen of this video. You get to see his steering maneuvers and then how the trailer and tractor react.
This school is the reason I have my cdl...some of the most down to earth instructors I've ever met.
Just perfect sir....you did it like a Boss .
Best video ever

I definitely learned from watching this, thanks for sharing
Best ever watched! Thanks
Got my CDL on First try. these videos helped a lot but also your inner talent which you either have or don't. Driving is an Art for sure.
Looking at it as a science helped me immensely to pass on my first try. And I’m not talented
I take my NC CDL test again this Saturday. I hate the 90 degree backing. I’m having a difficult time with the concept. I hope I pass this time🙏🏽
Good luck, my test is next month and it’s quite stressful
Are you testing in a 53 foot?

Still very helpful though. Thanks guys
Great video with tips.
Loved this thank you
roughly, what distance from the cone do you start to turn right?
Yeah the pointers on where too turn is vital to begginers
Great vid...
great tip much appreciated
Cellis313 did you know Marvin Gaye tried out for the Detroit lions football team?

You would have hit the truck next to you. The tail of the trailer swung over top of the cone.

it's training purposes who cares just to pass test !
Yeah, and in this case, he would have FAILED. You cannot go into the other box.

Instructor Freddie Jones of Kirkwood Community College I had a chance to pass road test by him in 02//2012
Is this also considered an alley dock, or is this something else?
Eugene Yi Yes it is, imagine there is a building door where the cones end,
very nice driver
Thank you
Thanks for the video...helps a lot.
None of the times that you started backing for a stopped position did you sound the horn.
good driver
شكرا على الدرس
I failed in my first try yesterday and i feel like shit. Is there any tip?
why did you have the trailer brake set?
do that shit in the cold and those brakes freeze up, you'd be screwed.
So do u put it in gear before before releasing the brakes ?
At 3.15 didn't you already start chewing on the left front fender of the pete! Should have stopped earlier to straighten out

Shoutout 2 everybody training for Crst
cant stop looking at the birb haha

i only had to do offset/parallel/ straight backing + road test. hm..
He would have failed in the state of Maine. Maine requires the tractor to be angled to the trailer and within 12 inches of the dock.
I think if there was a tractor to your passenger side you would of hit for sure.
Nice seat belt.

When I reverse 90% very easy 1 time reverse check the movement of the last tyre
in Ontario this would have been a fail at 3:02 I failed my first attempt for this.
I can't do my 90. I'm always to steep on it. Practice is fine test time i blow it
I failed ar 3:08 cause the rear right trailer went passed the middle of the pylons empty space
Left side of trailer would have hit trailer on the left side
You failed no seat belt on.
Steven Goodnight for baking you dont need to put belt
If you go take your test and have the key in the ignition without it on you will fail automatically.

I am retired and may not have to back to a dock ever again. I’m glad I never had to rely on a video like this to teach me how to do it.
I hate when videos say "Chase it" or" get under it". Like, what does that even mean?
nigga that back in wasn't straight. when you cut the video at 3:59 the truck was straight but when you back into it, it wasn't
Amazon ** NOW HAS WIRELESS BACK UP CAMERAS THAT ARE ROGHT ON TOP OF THE DOORS SO U CAN SEE NO BLINDS SPOTS

You should know already

Good job but you weren’t helpful for new students. You need to tell how far from the cones
No!
Should be 3 moves .
Not a got technique or method.
