Allot of mistakes, effective span for cantilever salb is d+ clear span. As per Is code , for cantilever slab l/d ratio is 7, Depth is varying, but you consider maximum depth as obtained at fixed support.
the (l/d)max value is unitless but you have put mm unit on it by mistake. overall I enjoyed your video a lot. I haven't been able to learn these stuffs from books because of my very short attention span, but I was able to understand it from your concise and to the point video. Your video was clear and engaging. Thanks a lot. I cant thank you enough. keep up the good work.
Now a days cantelevet slabs are designed for even two metre span. However as mild steel is not available we are forced to use Fe 500. With this steel depth is very high. Are there any suggestion to reduce depth by using compression steel etc . Any information madam to deal such situation
Span /depth = 7 X modification factor ..so it will actually 10 or 12mm...so mostly 12 is taken ..so that after the design...l/d max will not be greater than (7 X modification factor). ...and hence ok in deflection...
Very informative video ma'am, mujhe ek doubt hai cantilever slab me bhi one way two way slab hota hai kya ya continuous type esa kuch hai????? Please clear my doubt
Thanks for this teaching. Amazing job and good voice. 1. Please what is the 1000mm you used for calculating the self weight of slab? (0.20x1.00x25). 2. Please what is 'b' in the formula for checking for depth and why is it 1000mm? Thanks as I look forward to your reply.
Good presrntation We have assumed 10mm dia bars. Provided is 8mm. Distributiin can be reduced to. 12 %of thickness. Provide with 8mm bars. What is missing in this video 1. Behaviour of slab 2. Behaviour of support is not explained. 3.detailing is in complete Generally compression steel is provided Detailing at support. What forces are transferred to the support. What about torsion What are the support for this beam supporting the slab What about the overturning of slab. Is the support strong enough. Madam if you bring all these aspects your good presentation will become excellent. Even you forgot to draW BM SF deflection etc 3.

I am a big fan and die hard subscriber of your channel I have a small doubt in this video...while taking selfweight the crossection of the beam is varying from fixed end to the end so....it should also be considered or can be neglected
Support is actually the wall and generally it's width is 230mm taken...u can see in many plans of building design, width of wall is 230mm or sometimes it will be 300mm ...this is in case of external walls ... internal walls will have half width of external ones

Mam as per is 456 the l/d ratio is 7 for cantilever but your taking l/d as 12 please mention clause no
You have to multiply 7 with the modification factor

Nice calculations and clear 👌
Nicely and clearly explained (y)
Shouldnt we use tau v equation of varying depth to find tau v for tapered end slab?
which clause of which code is followed to take the depth of slab=1/12 of the overhang? I could not find it in IS:456. Could you help please?
Mam for Cantilever slab span/depth ratio as 7 only na.. then why should you take (span/10 or span/12)..
I think this is ACI318 code
Yes i was also confused here. For cantilever it is span/7.
Span /depth = 7 X modification factor ..so it will actually 10 or 12mm...so mostly 12 is taken ..so that after the design...l/d max will not be greater than (7 X modification factor). ...and hence ok in deflection...
For effect depth calculation you take span/10 to Span/12 can you tell me the reference clause number and according to which code ??
It ain't given in code it is kinda thumb rule

Nice Explanation... But how to take live load when designing for balcony for particular plan plz. Tell
Take live load for balcony as 3kn/m2
Thanx for taking time 4 me and replying.... Nice work done by you keep it up.....
For balcony the max value will be taken as 5kn/m2 and min value is taken as 3kn/m2 as per iscode 875 :1987 part 2

@@cwillstructures why Maximum depth is taken? What is the role of smaller depth at free end ?
@@Christopher3437-q4m maximum depth just for safety factors
Why did you provide 8mm bad dia which covers an area of =50mm^2 steel when the code shows that the mim should be 240mm^2
Mention the clause or page number where effective lenght is described for cantilever slab
In step 2 to find overall depth it is (effective depth+clear cover+bar dia/2)
Not effective cover
What is the difference between clear cover and effective cover?. Often hear these terms used synonymously!
@@safdarkh786 clear cover is minimum spacing b/w reinforcement bars and bottom surface of beam
Effective Cover means clear cover+diameter of bar/2
Yes it should be either 1)overall depth - clear cover+1/2 dia of bar or 2) overall depth-effective cover
True ...one can directly use 30mm for slab as effective cover if not given
