You handle snakes well, for sure, but you look just like Davey Allison. I would pay good money to see you walk up inside Talladega this weekend with that cowboy hat and shades.
Would it be productive to collect venom or is that way to dangerous being that you are so far away from your truck?
Logged 26 years in central ky hills. Agree with you 100% Never seen one that wasn't just trying to mind its own business
Nice work and nice video guys! It's amazing how all of your rattlesnake videos over the years have not only greatly promoted snake hunting to the public, but also informed us so much on rattlesnakes in Pennsylvania. Keep up the work!
Thanks Grant! Yeah, hopefully promoting quality snake management and showing its not always about killing a snake will keep snake hunting great for the future here in Pa.
Thank you for advocating to protect rattlesnakes, I hate to see them get killed. Been “hunting” them since I was 15, I have great respect for them. They are one of the most docile snakes in the country
Thank you guys for sharing your passion, while educating people at the same time. Thanks to folks like you, my whole mentality about snakes has changed. I still don’t like them, but realize their role and importance in the ecosystem.
Sure have taught me a lot about Rattlers, Gives confidence in the woods...
I had a lotta fun seeing how big the snakes got. Thank you for the upload
I've watched these hunts of yours for several years and enjoy them immensely, thanks for being generous!
Thanks William!
I’m worried about the snake I don’t see. the one I step on when I’m hiking through the woods or the one I sit down next to during turkey season
Wesland Kid That’s what I’m talking about! I’m in Virginia, same for copperheads that blend in more with the ground!
@@pinkhare4344 Hunting Chuckers in Idaho It was getting dark and I heard chiga chiga chiga chiga all around me.lol...No gators on either..lol.
I can't believe there are that many rattlesnakes in Pennsylvania! I live in Utah and you saw more snakes in an afternoon than I will see in an entire year.
I’m in North Ogden, Utah and I’ve seen 2 this year on the scare canyon trail!
I'm in PA and I was all throughout the woods when I was a kid. I never saw any snakes. But I suppose to a snake...a bunch of kids must sound like a freight train or something and they all hid.
I saw one Timber Rattler in New Jersey one summer just north of Blairstown in the woods near the boy scout camp No-Be-Bo-Sco. It was literally crossing a one-lane road and I almost ran over it with my car. But I stopped and let it pass.
I used to live not far from where he hunts for these. & I seen a few during summer
I've been waiting to see this also, and am so glad to see it out. Great video and great work.👍👍
Along the border in Sullivan County NY and Wayne PA , along the Railroad tracks Route 97 is known for having Timber Rattlesnakes. You may see them driving along that road sunning on the rocks. Many people riding bikes get a shock of a lifetime when they pull off the road and see them coiled up.
Johnny - you never disappoint!
Every year I watch these vids and every year I say that I'm gonna give this a try but still haven't pulled the trigger. Beautifully shot video as usual and I love that you continue to do your thing - even with COVID being thrown in our faces everyday. The great outdoors - NO MASK REQUIRED!!! Thanks, bro.....looking forward to what's coming up this next season. Peace
Don't need any season to enjoy enjoy!! the Outdoors..
Now that my thing I love black bears
I like wandering off path and seeing things in nature most people haven't seen in history
I'm with you there. A great workout with new scenery and surprises. It's called exploring. PA is great for that.
I was excited seeing the new video drop today...love your content!
Thanks!
Looks like a nice big rattler to clean and eat
Back in my younger day I cooked and ate several western diamond backs!
Great video John! Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to your fall hunting videos.
I do not know which I enjoyed more the snakes or the scenery. Probably both.
Been waiting on these videos! Love them!
I had no idea rattlesnake season was a thing. Cool
Always awesome to see you guys back out hunting. Hopefully in the next couple weeks when we go to our camp in Haneyville pa we will see a few
Thanks for respecting the snakes. Everybody wants to kill them out of fear but you show that they are trying to get away. I dont wrangle snakes but I do let them hang around cause I dont want to have rodent issues. Enjoyed!
Those were some really nice looking rattlesnakes guys! Some people will never understand how brutal Pa rattlesnake habitat can be. I have gone many times with my Dad and the terrain and vegetation are unforgiving but completely worth it.
Thanks! Its usually always worth the hike. Snakes or no snakes. Just nice to get out and explore.
That waterfall!!!! I love PA ❤️
I’ve been to that waterfall, we have a camp outside of Driftwood, PA.
great video and nice snakes.
always love the scenary up there when we come up shed huntin.
Watching these snake videos is always a pleasure!
That rock overhang at the end of the video will probably produce some Indian artifacts
Great content as always..Enjoyed!
Like always awesome video.. I'm not a fan of snakes but watching your videos it's obvious those snakes are not out to get people.. thanks for the videos keep them coming.
excellent video. great points about how timber rattlers are not evil, not out to get anyone
Love watchin these videos ... even my wife watched this one with me lol
I am so confused..... opening day of rattler season? I’ve never heard of a “season” before. Everyday is season where I’m from and live now.
in pennsylvania there is a season
Leatherwood Outdoors I gathered that from your video, are there other states you know of with a season. Just never imagined there would be a season for buzz tails.
@Eric Ferguson its illegal to kill them in Pennsylvania also I believe
@@Leatherwoodoutdoors would love to meet ya if ya ever made it to elk county
That was such an interesting video. I don't know anything about snakes, in fact I'm afraid of them but drawn to them at the same time. Thankyou so much for sharing the video.
When it comes to rattle snakes I'm more of a road hunter.
I definitely agree
I caught a rattle snake today to prevent my coworkers from hurting him I knew nothing about snakes and still don't I was very astounded on 1 the nerve I had 2 it seemed as if the snake knew I was there to help him because he never struck as he had struck at my co-worker. Now I wanna learn as much as possible ! It was a rush like no other but I saved him and I feel good about it. But I feel like I can't wait until next time. All I can remember is his rattle it's so strong and present in person. You guys are awesome only made me feel better about my actions! That snake deserved to live we were in his habitat he was only trying to tell them that !
That was really educational! Thanks for sharing. We have timber rattlesnakes and copperheads in our woods. We try to NEVER see them.
Absolutely fascinating video, we don't have rattlesnakes in the UK and your scenery is beautiful.
Very cool! Hello from Butler Pa. 😎✌
Been waiting on this one!!
They are ambush predators which takes the fun out of going into the woods
Every snake is a king cobra in my opinion... I'm terrified of them and airplanes but at the same time, I can't watch enough of them...
I tagged a nice one a few years ago with 14 rattles and a button! Nice video guys!
That's alot of rattles! Thanks!
That waterfall is beautiful
Love the channel keep up the great work
Thanks!
I'm a country boy and snakes truly don't mean to harm anyone on purpose. The only problems is, people usually step on a snake or try and handle them for no reason other than curiosity and wind up getting bit. I always wear snake guards when I'm hunting or fishing. Just get cha some good snake guards that come up to at least your kneecaps and be careful where you step! =)
Enjoyed that, thanks.
Long time since the last one, brazilian in the area. Nice.
Really cool vid. I don't hunt for them per se, but in N FL, they pretty much come attached to the zip code. Easterns are always looking for space, pygmys though, seem to be much bolder! I usually like to get a pic or vid, really interesting
Love all the video content, you guys are awesome.
Thanks!
My dad graduated from Wynokia Oklahoma High School. They have a rattlesnake hunt each spring. That's where a majority of anti-venom comes from. Harvesting Rattlers (for venom and meat) has some benefits. And they haven't ran out of snakes yet.
Great video!! Very cool!!
Awesome video and views! Thank you and God bless! 🇺🇸
I’m from the desert in Texas. Ain’t never seen a RS in the wild. Friends have, but I haven’t. They’re so cool, too.
some really big snakes. The waterfall was beautiful. do you guys ever think about emergency procedures if by the remote chance one of you got bitten? What would you do? Wouldn't you be too far in to get out before becoming incapacitated? Just curious.
well, there is only so much you can do. there is greater risk in going to more remote places. as for anything, we must know our way out and try to keep calm. cell service is getting better than before in remote areas so that can be a big help where we could at least meet medical help halfway. we do keep a small snake bit kit with us, but that only goes so far. sometimes they may not help much. but its something to have at least.
Wow what a hunt iI never went out before i have been watching your videos and it gives me the confidence to go but was wondering if you would take me along on a hunt just to experience it with y'all
Went out snake hunting opening day no luck was out between Ridgeway and saintmarys no luck gonna try cameron county next great video keep them comming..thank you...
stay safe! hope you find some!
Biggest rattle on a Pa. Yellow phase I ever saw in 60 years.
Looks like a good place to grow some special plants! God Bless
I suggested to our VT rattlesnake biologist that we augment our meager population with PA snakes, but he is worried about diseases spreading. Your snakes look really healthy. Nice work
that is a good idea Kevin. at least they could test the snakes first. a few years ago we were seeing lots of scale rot. But I didnt see any on opening day.
Great video guys!
Great Video man Been watching for many years. Saw all of your videos I think. Big fan, very well put together with the editing. Glad to see you didn't harvest any snakes. I am catch, photo and release. I live in Pittsburgh, been up there a few times snaking. Currently looking at a property on Sinnemahoning Creek. Since you are always up there and I'm sure you drove past the place, maybe you can contact me and we can talk
Thanks. Glad you enjoy the videos.
Lots of nice ones! no mushrooms this year? they were good in s.central pa this year, thank you
Thanks! I didnt have time to check most of my spots. The weather was all messed up too. I know southern pa got better results though.
Catch and release = respect to Leatherwood Outdoors :D
Nope nope no nope not in hell nope im out 😂 lol good video man
Round Island Run falls...been there.
The rattler is one of nature's amazing hunters and survivors. I've killed only a couple because they were on my back porch and I had no one to help me take them back out to the desert. I moved them off the roads countless times and will never kill another. I've even picked one up and held it for a little while.
I was out in union county a few weeks ago & they were everywhere
The Hook is a great area. Mule Shanty Trail, Molasses Gap Trail, off trail, even in the snow. My kind of social distancing. I check in on a den of rattlers with copperheads there a couple times each summer just for good walk and photos.
I am from Texas we have lots of rattle snakes I have never heard of a license to hunt snakes so that was new to me it is just for where you guys are from, hell we 10-20 a day if thats what we want good video keep them coming
Seems like it's more a "caught it live to inform the public" hunting license.
I live in Alabama and I would love to come up and hunt with you guys
One of my favorite snakes always tried to find one here in my area of southern Indiana / southern Illinois 25 years no luck yet. Firm believer of dont harm them. Educate & respect if all people had that frame of mind several species wouldn't be near extinction.
What's meant by keeper size in Pennsylvania?
Great video.
I always look forward to the snake videos. Do you ever see copperheads ?
sometimes. didnt see any that day.
That bigger rattlesnake was pissed!
I would pay for a guided snake hunt
All the snakes: Hippity hoppity I do not want your property
I live in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Is there any tips you can give me? This is my first year out. Are mornings and evenings really the best times to find rattlesnakes?
Appreciate your respect for the critters. Neat to see the black bears. Can you say where you were in Pa without giving the exact location away?
north central pa
I like to try it but scared to. I don't have boots yet Im trying my best. I need a catch pole grabber but I made hook out of small paint roller. Like to learn from u some day in 52 yrs old
Thanks for sharing this video and making awareness a little bit better about snakes in general.
It's a shame that religion has tried to tell us they're evil for so long. Completely untrue...
"TICK CITY"
👍👍
Wow never heard of rattlesnake hunting
Pro Tip: Find the rattlesnake before it finds you
What do you do with the snakes that you do keep? Also, have you ever been bitten?
we eat them and preserve the skin. some have kept them as pets. some have kept them for show and tell then released them back later. no one in our group has ever got bit.
They are such dossile creatures. I honestly thought they were aggressive, but totally just want to be left alone
Sweetwater Texas could learn a whole lot from you guys. Awesome fellas!
Sweet water Texas has the rt idea
Weed these bad boys out!!
Is Pa hunting license enough to hunt rattlesnakes or do I need a different permit? And if so where can I get one from?
Rattlesnakes fall under fish commission jurisdiction...you would need a venomous snake permit and a valid fishing license
Could u help me with instructions on getting a rattle snake permit in PA, I went to the fish n boat commission website and it said paper applications are no longer accepted and it was to be done online or through an issuing agent.. So I called an the secretary told me I can purchase it on the outdoor shop, I went there and it gives a list of all the permits and license you can buy but there is not one for rattlesnake.
you must first have a fishing license. second you can go anywhere that sells deer license like ( walmart) and purchase the snake permit after you purchase a fishing license.
@@Leatherwoodoutdoors thanks for replying
Sure could use some help changing the Sweetwater roundup to something like this. Please.
my dog got bit by one a couple days ago her ear is still swollen
Awesome been doing lot of snake hunting this year for water snakes they taste great
Great video, rattlesnakes are important for controlling rodent populations.
How old would that snake be that you had in the tube please?
you guys are fning nuts
I always wondered how rattlers make that noise.
I'm from Pittsburgh pa I've never even seen rattlers. Wheres a decent place to go too
Can non-residents obtain a rattlesnake permit in Pennsylvania? If so how do you go about applying for one?
yes. you must first have a pa fishing license and then you can get a snake permit. online or at any place that sells deer license in pa
Leatherwood Outdoors awesome thanks, would love to come down and try it out, any recommended state land areas?
Wow....scary....might accidentally step on here in Kansas...🙀🙀👋🏾
