- This is a live unedited recording from the small stage of Operaen in Copenhagen. Recorded on the 9th May 2010. This was one of 3 pieces on the program of The Royal Danish Orchestra's (Det Kongelige Kapel) regular chamber music concerts.
I've watched this video so many times and it just makes me extremely happy. I hope to be as good as any of them someday!
Oboe is love, oboe is life.
oH god.
did you just-
shrek is love shrek is life?
I did just Julia Rush

Ashley Gassner yass #Oboeisloveoboeislife
Ashley Gassner honestly, that’s such a mood
As an oboist, I can tell you that this is truly a special performance. Even the camera work is polished enough to help us appreciate the impeccable technical mastery of this superb trio. It's not as easy as it looks to make this level of chamber music happen, and these fellows have it all together. Great intonation, ensemble, and musicality! Bravo!!
+Barry Kroeker My 12 year old son is a flautist and eventually wants to learn oboe. Do you recommend that, Barry?
Thanks Barry. Glad you like our performance. Greetings from Copenhagen, Rixon.
+Rixon Thomas Love it! May God bless you all with great reeds!
+rubicon1983 Sure, get him going. He's already learned how to read treble clef, breathe and play! Make sure to have him study with an oboist and not just a generalist! If he shows aptitude, get him into the reedmaking!
Sorry for any confusion. Was signed on as my significant other and didn't realize it. LOL
Hi. The three oboists in this video have been playing for over 20 years, and we certainly didn't sound like this when we were beginners. Practice, practice, practice ; ) You'll need to ask your teacher about reeds and which instrument to buy. But keep playing and you'll get there!
I played oboe from the age of 6 to 12.. sadly stopped then because of certain circumstances,.. but hearing this brings back the beautiful memories of being a former oboe player, one day I will resume this childhood passion of mine :)
this is what makes me glad I got the one and only oboe in the school
im a flutist in my schools advanced band and i really loved the beautiful sound that can be originated from oboe so im giving it a try . i dont have much support so i have to train myself if i want to continue learning the oboe and getting better :')
SAME to all who relate, I'm the only oboe in the band. I've been playing for almost three years now and I'd say I'm pretty good, but I'd have to ask some of my bandmates for an honest opinion, since I'm me.
Anna Nelson same i'm the only oboe at my school
As the only bassoon at mine, I'd like to say we're practically cousins
Anna Nelson my first year in junior varsity band I got Wind ensemble, the highest band rank in our school, as an only oboe as well. Well, I used to have buddies until they quit
My 10 year old told me last night he wants to play the oboe. I honestly didn't even know what an oboe was until i looked up this video. This is some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard!
Their endurance is like 100x mine 💀💀💀 I get tired after playing like 3 songs in band and they’re over here doing what looks like straight 10 minutes. Fricken Oboe Gods
To me there is no instrument capable of expressing the range and emotion of the human voice, as the oboe.
I almost agree, however, I think that the saxophone has the ability if played correctly.
I definitely agree!
+haydenprogamer I play both. They are alike in alot of ways, but that would be a huge mistake calling them the same thing.
CafePets yeah oboe, or clarinet
Cello
I cannot imagine how hard the audience try to hold that cough. The music is too good to be ruined by a cough.
there is no audience. it implies that in the text below
+Caige Seaver you can see the audience in the bottom of the screen. There is an audience.
Actually there is whole bunch of coughing at the end of the performance.
sammimawon I wanna like but ur thing is at 69 likes so I wont
@@caigeseaver9798 So who was coughing and clapping in the last minute of the video? Hallucinations?
proud to be an oboe player!
+Christian Udo A It is hard to deliver beautiful melody and the instrument itself is expensive.
+Christian Udo A not really,I started playing a week ago and I know almost all the notes
+Christian Udo A not really,I started playing a week ago and I know almost all the notes
+AngelCake 37 learning notes is the easiest part, embouchure, sound, etc is the hard part.
+AngelCake37 You've learned almost all 32 notes in a week? Very impressive.
Can't believe I once thought oboes sounded like muted clarinets and didn't especially like them. This trio would seduce anyone to the contrary.
bbbartolo all my classmates think i oboe sounds like a duck or a muffled clarinet
@@chipb7685 or a goose 😔
I've never met an instrument I didn't like, and the oboe is no exception.
Nicely played, gentlemen!
Domingo,Super singing tenor and a great person. I met him after a Tosca evning, and had a very fine speaking moment together….Great minuts for me--
I've been learning to play the oboe for one year and a half. My goal is to play so perfectly. This is amazing
Bravo Oboe Family. We are missing the oboe of love!
I absolutely LOVE the cor anglais player! He is so wonderfully expressive.
This is true talent. I have this downloaded to my ipod, and i literally listen to it every night before I go to bed. I'm absolutely in love with this. :]
Absolutely magnificent...that Dupin has a most extraordinary sound, and your Marigaux has some of the most beautiful low notes I've ever heard! Also, absolutely stunning cor anglais playing! A huge bravo to all three of you...just amazing :)
What a beautiful performance! The balance of tone and precision of execution is marvellous, the video and audio is excellent!
Un trio talentueux, sans aucun doute. J'ai toujours admiré le son du cor anglais, sans pouvoir y jouer. Le hautbois 1 et 2 jouent magnifiquement bien. Un grand merci pour cette splendide prestation filmée.
That english horn playing is absolutely marvelous!
I love how in the last minute of the piece, someone's throat finally couldn't take it any more and they had to cough, and of course it was during the most dramatic rest of the piece! You can tell the lead oboist isn't pleased with the coughing!
Det er bare for meg som oboist å gratulere Danmark med slike glimrende oboister! BRAVO!
I am a player, and this just goes directly to my heart.
This is singularly the most impressive double reed performance I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. That Cor Anglais has a timbre that could soothe the angriest of souls. So much expression in every note! I’ve listened to this performance more times than I can count and I will never get tired of it. Bravo!!!
@TotalWeirdAlFan27 Hi, glad you liked our playing. Firstly, everything is easier on the oboe with better reeds. Whether it be improving tone or technique. So if you can get your teacher to help you or order online from KGE- reeds.
And secondly there are many great pieces for an intermediate player like Marcello Oboe Concerto and Nielsen - 2 fantasy pieces (available at RDG woodwinds). And then, of coarse, it's practice practice practice. ; ) I hope this helped. Best wishes from Copenhagen. Rixon
Hi, great performance! Can you tell me what piece (or pieces) this is? I'd like to find the sheet music. Thanks!
This is one of the best live performances of Beethoven's trio, which I could listen to and appreciate in the last twenty years of my life as an oboist!
Three magnificent and incomparable young performers who know how to treat the oboe and English horn with exceptional refinement and attention to sound.
SUPERLATIVE PERFORMANCE! VERY VERY GOOD.
Bepi
Nice to see Beethoven appreciating Mozart pieces.
I wasn't aware the oboe could sound so sonorous and pleasant. Beautifully done, thank you for posting this.
That English horn's TONE is SENT FROM GOD! Lol
HOLY SHIT UR RIGHT
Thumbs up if you play the Oboe
Owen Markus just started, I sound like a dying cat
@@UA-camZexlor I've been playing for over 25 years dude you will get there someday. The oboe is very tricky to learn and unlike other instrument, you won't be playing other members in its family until your 5-6 year.
Marcus Lewis a other thing that sucks is the whole band says we suck, and calls us hobos. What even sucks more than that is that I’m best friends with two people, me and both of them wanted to play the saxophone. And guess what, both of them got a saxophone, they also even sit next to each other. While I get the worst sounding instrument in the band that everyone says sucks. It’s like god made it happen 😖
@@lapislazers2373 why not? Out of curiosity
@@lapislazers2373 I did not find oboe or english horn tricky. Bassoon is the Butt Kicker!
Enchanting! Evan after ALL those hours of practice, still putting in the energy and emotion.. So amazing! Thank you so much!
I play the oboe and english horn. Must say those are truly wonderful instruments! :)
How similar are they? If you play one can you play the other without much fuss?
NOT aaron jin for the English horn, are the fingerings the same? because I play oboe but I really want to play the English horn
Mr. Taco Loves Art yes it's the same ;)
Adam Fairchild Sorry for the super late comment. Both the oboe and english horn are relatively very similar. Both have same fingerings besides the half-hole key being two separate parts. The reed is also similar, but since the english horn requires a bocal, the cork / end of the reed is a bit different than the oboe's reed. However, ultimately both are very similar!
Mr. Taco Loves Art The fingering is basically the same. The half-hole on the english horn are two separate parts or keys. Other than that, mostly everything is very similar to the oboe.
I just started playing this year and I absolutely love it. I think I love it more than my clarinet..... Which I have been playing for 4 years now.
celeste bell same here I switched from piano and my life has completely changed and now revolves around my oboe. Funny how music can change your life.
Yeah music is what has saved me and most people
celeste bell Wow. I played piano in kindergarten but quit in second grade because it frustrated me a lot. In fourth grade I picked up the oboe and loved it. I also play clarinet as a secondary instrument and might resume playing piano soon because music has become a huge part of my life. Side note, TFiOS (and vlogbrothers) is also a huge part of my life.
I love playing piano. Been playing since I was 3 and I am 15 now. It is an amazing instrument
Im probably gonna learn the bassoon next year as a secondary instrument so excited
Gorgeous playing! Very beautiful sound, blend, and musicality. It is a gorgeous piece as well.
Those of you learning oboe, keep listening to good recordings like this. That will help you get that good sound in your ear. Get some good (hand made) reeds and a good oboe teacher. Practice every day to develop a good embouchure and good technique.
It is called an oboe trio because the English horn is a type of oboe - think of it as an alto oboe.
Love this Eng. Horn.He is very expressive!!!!!
Simply gorgeous composition and an equally gorgeous, sonorous performance. Especially the English Horn player.
absolutely wonderful playing. I play in the USA, The english horn player bravo.... that was the cleanest and most gorgeus sound on the fast variation. All three of you sound tremendous
Never a note out of place! You'd have no idea how wildly difficult double-reeds are with your ease of playing.
Thanks Geoffrey. We're very glad you like our performance. Regards from Copenhagen, Rixon.
O my God, what an elegant, refined sound!!! *-* Such a sensitive and inspiring playing...sooo passionate...it definitely goes into my favorites :D
Brings back memories. In high school, I switched from clarinet to oboe. It was a bit of an adjustment to get use to the double reed. The key to a good sound is to construct your own reeds.
Thansk Geoffrey. Glad you like our performance. Best regards from Copenhagen, Rixon.
GO OBOES!!! This is a BEAUTIFUL piece:)
this makes me want to play my oboe again.
That was phenomenal! I to play the oboe and hope one day that I sound that good.
Simply sublime...
Hi, we're glad you like our performance, even though it was Beethoven ; ) He wrote these variations on a Mozart melody when he was very young. With regards from Copenhagen, Rixon.
Love this, great playing!! Especially variation 3!
This is consummate playing! Beautiful.
First 5 notes on the first oboe, just heaven.
It is called THEME AND VARIATIONS. Beethoven borrowed a theme from mozart's opera Don Giovanni ( La ci daren la mano) and arranged it for the trio varying the theme in each repetition.
Ten minutes of absolute delight.
Thanks for the upload. Wonderful playing.
Land mine potential for all three parts.
Don Giovanni is one of my favorite Operas to play oboe in. It has intense chromatic dissonance and the most beautifully sublime melodies.
So beautiful. They are so good
I started on clarinet and switched to oboe and it was the best decision I've made because you get solos, and college bands love love love oboes and its just a fun instrument because it is so unique and different from all woodwinds (:
But, you can choose whichever you want to do because its up to you :3
The oboe is just such a beautiful sound
It’s so whimsical like a flute
and wonky like a bassoon
It’s so happy like a trumpet
And so elegant like a piano
Such beautiful music. I wish I knew more oboists so I could do trios!
The slow but very blending style of the oboes and an English horn makes me feel at peace and it is just so beautiful... You guys are amazing at your instruments thank you for sharing this with everyone; I play the oboe as well and hope to be as good as this or better thank you for the inspiration!
Wonderful trio!
Man, I play oboe and saxophone among other things, but watching this reminds me that I have a certain passion for oboe... different from everything else. Beautiful work, your tone is amazing!
Lovely recording. I have not done this work but have done the other trio. The balance is impeccable and the players did not distract by dancing around too much. A better performance one could not have wished for - sublime
Ah it so blissful. You guys are extremely tight as an ensemble. And Rixon is an absolute champion on Cor!
There are 19 nuts in the world, because they did not like this beautiful video!
Great, congratulations!
i love it..thank you for share this music....wonderful!!!
Absolutely outstanding! I am just enthralled watching this. You all have magnificent skills to play such a difficult instrument with grace and aplomb. Bravo!!!
so nice sounding…. good job!
Thanks to the superb TV production. The camera director is an artist too.
Beautifull interpretation. BRAVO! Simply beautyfull. Thank you.
I see the Oboe as a mix of a Flute and a Clarinet. I am going to be starting the Oboe this summer. I am very excited :)
weirdone17 How’s the oboe journey treating you?
Really beautiful rendition, gentlemen!
Un Beethoven leggero e grazioso è una chicca che trovo per me un dono splendido in un giorno uggioso di ottobre.Grazie.
This simply amazing. You all play perfectly! Now I will be somewhat out of place and say Sven is a cutie!
Wonderful!
Outstanding players, great piece of music!
It is Beethoven's theme and variations on la ci darem la mano. He also wrote theme and variations on a lot of other Mozart opera arias including stuff from Le Nozze di Figaro and Die Zauberflöte.
Being an Oboe player myself...I fell in love! :D this piece is beautiful! You are all so talented!
This piece also prove to my friends that circular breathing is possible...though they adamantly refused. So thank you :)
very nice piece of art!
Fantastic combination, great music!
Thanks for sharing, greetings from Mexico
You guys are truly amazing!!! It sounds so cool!!!
Oh boy, this is really lovely!
Splendid performance!
It's beautiful!! Thank you!
I've played this:) It was a lot of fun! You sound great!
this is so much fun! thank you for posting
Hi, I've been playing the oboe for 9 years and have been trained by a professional oboist. My advice is to begin with a wooden reed; I started on plastic and it trains your mouth muscles differently...I had to be re-trained on a wooden reed. Also, if you really want to succeed at oboe you'll need a good instrument (I reccommend a plastic Fox oboe if you don't plan on playing professionally), and a good teacher...you cannot go it alone on the oboe! Best wishes, oboe is a rewarding instrument!
Es increíble como Beethoven capta tan bien la esencia del oboe y la trasmite con toda su espiritualidad e integridad... gracias por esta interpretación
Fabulous!! Great to hear this, you all sound marvellous - hi Rixon.. very proud of you, xx LW
brilliant! i'm glad i came across this :)
Wow. That's all I can say. My main instrument it the flute, but I'm totally inspired to try out the oboe now for my state honor band.
U should! I play oboe myself and I absolutely love it! It's a very beautiful instrument with a tremendous beautiful sound! You'll love it:)
Emily Capetillo
Yeah beautiful but when you start out you don't feel welcome...
Dooo it! I love oboe! Also we need more of them so they don't die off.
Yes it's true that in the beginning you feel like you should quit. That is, until you do something right and you get very proud of yourself and keep on going and challenging yourself. You might get obsessed with oboe actually... Like if someone says, "I play the oboe" you might scream and jump with joy because right now I'm a loner in my band. So. Very. Alone. Also, you will get very annoyed when someone says "oh! You play the clarinet!!!!" I swear..
Kaito Shion also, reeds and the instrument itself might be harder to find and more expensive because I don't think they mass produce them like flutes... Same with lessons
Amazing. a Impresionant trio.
I play oboe, but the english horn is absolutely GORGEOUS sounding!
@fhaweuifhiaweu This a french horn in F ( in french : cor anglais = english horn )
This piece was written by Beethoven "für 2 Oboen und 1 Englishhorn" WoO 28 but it exists an edition for Oboe and Piano .( Breitkopf Nr 6709)
It's very pleasant too .
( well it's no so easy have two frends playing Oboe , two )
How lovely !
I love it.... Iplay oboe for 10 years ... :)
Så smuk! Jeg elsker det!
Профессионалы с большой буквы!Так легко,грациозно!Праздник для души.Браво!!!!
Hey guys!
You are awesome!
Congratulations! =)
I play oboe!! :-) I'm working on jurassic park with my band class. Just got the sheet music today. Anyway, u guys r rly good!!!
